It took me about 15 seconds to find an uncensored version, and it has more pixels to boot. Fuck off with this this dumb censorship.

[-] lyralycan@sh.itjust.works 73 points 1 day ago

Fresh, decentralised version for myself and others in the UK

[-] Klear@piefed.world 9 points 21 hours ago

Sorry. Is that still a thing? I wanted to avoid imgur, but I'm just so damn used to it =/

[-] lyralycan@sh.itjust.works 4 points 5 hours ago* (last edited 5 hours ago)

Not to worry, I just get it with a VPN and repost, that's how it is in the UK for now aha The 'Protect Children From Predators and All Forms of Human Nudity by Banning Everyone From Everything and Get a Generous Dose of Biometric Data Harvesting Normalised Act', or 'OSA', is still in effect

[-] Klear@piefed.world 3 points 5 hours ago* (last edited 4 hours ago)

Huh. Here in Czech Republic we also enjoy hating on OSA, though in our case it's something like "Author Protection Association". Anti-piracy rather than internet blocking, but similar bullshit. We call it "osa zla", which literally means "The Axis of Evil".

[-] snoons@lemmy.ca 1 points 10 hours ago

There are alternative front ends you can use as well. Look in to LibRedirect.

[-] qarbone@lemmy.world 39 points 1 day ago

Censoring expletives is dumb. But I don't have a problem with hiding names of non-celebrities who aren't spouting hate.

[-] DmMacniel@feddit.org 39 points 1 day ago

Okay and what was gained by revealing the users names?

[-] Rothe@piefed.social 79 points 1 day ago

What was gained by censoring them? These are all public accounts, posting publicly on a public social network, what is the reason for censoring them?

[-] NotASharkInAManSuit@lemmy.world 23 points 1 day ago

It’s a screenshot from publicly posted social media. Why the fuck would you clutch pearls on this one?

[-] architect@thelemmy.club 55 points 1 day ago

Oh God forbid we verify anything anymore.

[-] lyralycan@sh.itjust.works 13 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

Yes, and the tweet can also be verified by searching its content, which will instantly lead to articles and uncensored names, completely nullifying the censoring.

[-] TaTTe@lemmy.world 61 points 1 day ago

I believe OP was referring to the word "fuck", which for some reason was censored in the original screenshot.

[-] DmMacniel@feddit.org 8 points 1 day ago

Ooh, yeah didn't see that, only that oc didn't anonymize their submission like op did.

Common courtesy for what, exactly?

These were publicly posted on a public website on a public forum. If they didn't want people to see what they posted, they probably should have posted a private message on a private website on a private forum?

[-] JcbAzPx@lemmy.world 19 points 1 day ago

A snapshot of public discourse on a public forum is not doxing.

[-] DmMacniel@feddit.org 5 points 1 day ago
[-] JcbAzPx@lemmy.world 11 points 23 hours ago

Basically, yes.

The "wear a mask" in the subway's username is a pretty obvious sign this was from pandemic days. I'm not sure what I gain by having more specific date information.

[-] zikzak025@lemmy.world 2 points 19 hours ago

Would be wild if it said 2016 though huh

[-] Stormy@thelemmy.club 16 points 1 day ago

Why are the users entitled to privacy

[-] SpaceCadet@feddit.nl 19 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

It's not about entitlement, it's about decency. Knowing their usernames or identity contributes nothing here and nobody wants to be harassed when a screenshot of a conversation they casually participated in more than 5 years ago goes viral again for the umpteenth time. So the decent thing to do is to censor the usernames.

[-] 0x0@lemmy.zip 1 points 1 hour ago

the decent thing to do is to censor

Nope

[-] wopalopa@lemmy.world 10 points 23 hours ago

why is this downvoted? this is the common sense on the internet for ages

[-] exu@feditown.com 11 points 22 hours ago

Anything you post publicly can and will be used against you.

[-] cadmiumsandbox 4 points 20 hours ago

amazing argument there. lets argue against changing any behavior even the most minor and justify it with its just like this

[-] DmMacniel@feddit.org 3 points 1 day ago

people simply are.

[-] Klear@piefed.world 15 points 1 day ago

What was lost? That picture is all over the internet.

You must post before you leave

Be nice. Assume others have good intent (within reason).

Block or ignore posts, comments, and users that irritate you in some way rather than engaging. Report if they are actually breaking community rules.

Use content warnings and/or mark as NSFW when appropriate. Most posts with content warnings likely need to be marked NSFW.

Most 196 posts are memes, shitposts, cute images, or even just recent things that happened, etc. There is no real theme, but try to avoid posts that are very inflammatory, offensive, very low quality, or very "off topic".

Bigotry is not allowed, this includes (but is not limited to): Homophobia, Transphobia, Racism, Sexism, Abelism, Classism, or discrimination based on things like Ethnicity, Nationality, Language, or Religion.

Moderator Guidelines

Moderator Guidelines

  • Don’t be mean to users. Be gentle or neutral.
  • Most moderator actions which have a modlog message should include your username.
  • When in doubt about whether or not a user is problematic, send them a DM.
  • Don’t waste time debating/arguing with problematic users.
  • Assume the best, but don’t tolerate sealioning/just asking questions/concern trolling.
  • Ask another mod to take over cases you struggle with, if you get tired, or when things get personal.
  • Ask the other mods for advice when things get complicated.
  • Share everything you do in the mod matrix, both so several mods aren't unknowingly handling the same issues, but also so you can receive feedback on what you intend to do.
  • Don't rush mod actions. If a case doesn't need to be handled right away, consider taking a short break before getting to it. This is to say, cool down and make room for feedback.
  • Don’t perform too much moderation in the comments, except if you want a verdict to be public or to ask people to dial a convo down/stop. Single comment warnings are okay.
  • Send users concise DMs about verdicts about them, such as bans etc, except in cases where it is clear we don’t want them at all, such as obvious transphobes. No need to notify someone they haven’t been banned of course.
  • Explain to a user why their behavior is problematic and how it is distressing others rather than engage with whatever they are saying. Ask them to avoid this in the future and send them packing if they do not comply.
  • First warn users, then temp ban them, then finally perma ban them when they break the rules or act inappropriately. Skip steps if necessary.
  • Use neutral statements like “this statement can be considered transphobic” rather than “you are being transphobic”.
  • No large decisions or actions without community input (polls or meta posts f.ex.).
  • Large internal decisions (such as ousting a mod) might require a vote, needing more than 50% of the votes to pass. Also consider asking the community for feedback.
  • Remember you are a voluntary moderator. You don’t get paid. Take a break when you need one. Perhaps ask another moderator to step in if necessary.
