Here’s a TrekMovie exclusive that lives up to the hype.

Strange New Worlds co-showrunner Henry Alonso Myers has revealed/confirmed that the show’s bridge and other sets at CBS Stages in Mississauga have remained intact pending decisions by the new Paramount owners on the Year One continuation into the 1701’s first missions under Captain James T. Kirk.

“That makes this the big decision for them, because, it’s about, do you hold on to the sets, currently? As I said, they have not been destroyed, so we’re waiting to find out what they want to do.”

So, while Paul Wesley has already committed to season three of AppleTV’s historical romance offering The Buccaneers, it seems that a continuation of the Enterprise’s early years is still a live possibility.

When I was younger and TNG was coming out, I thought "oh wow this is so cool, every 20 years we go another 100 years into the future of Star Trek!" And here we are almost 40 years later, still rehashing the same characters from the same eras over and over. The only breath of fresh air is the last bit of Discovery and Starfleet Academy. Give me a flagship show set in the 26th century or a show about the Temporal Cold War. Something new!

I recall that feeling!

I also recall that there were many TOS fans my age for whom the Kirk-Spock-McCoy triumvirate defined Star Trek.

I never thought that way myself but it’s been a dividing line in the franchise from the start.

I love SNW for what it is but I have to say that I was disappointed that Akiva Goldsman — who said he was himself disappointed when he joined Discovery’s writers room in season one to find out that they originally had no intention to include Pike — turned out to be more focused in telling the pre-TOS backstory of the TOS main characters than in telling the story of the Enterprise under Pike’s command.
