Obviously. Beer from the USA taste like piss.

[-] ploot 27 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago)

The USA and Canada have a ton of good beer from small breweries, but the stuff that gets exported does taste like piss. It's like judging British beer on the basis of Carling Black Label.

Yeah. I know some Germans who are jealous of American microbrews because in Germany they have strict laws that keep new small breweries from starting.

You can sell whatever you want (within reason) in Germany - you just then can't put the word "bier" on the label. Not really stopping anyone, if you call it "Hopfenkaltschale" ("hops cold dish") or "Gerstensaft" ("barley juice"), everyone will still know what you mean.

Miller and so called "Budweiser" certainly taste like piss. I don't know about small breweries. Czech Budweiser is excellent although I prefer Pilsner Urquell or Radegast.

Yeah, Carling also taste like piss.

Correction: Non-craft beer from the US tastes like piss.

[-] ploot 9 points 1 week ago

Yes, as a Brit I'm a bit of a beer snob. Some of the best beers I have ever tasted have been from independent breweries in the USA and Canada. It's really very different from how it was a few decades ago, when good beer was hard to find in these countries. Now it seems to be everywhere.

I went to a wedding in Northern California back in 2019 and travelled around for a couple weeks, from New Zealand. It was just a glorious haze of 7% IPAs and legal weed. I loved it!

As a Boston resident: New England has a bonkers craft beer scene. If youโ€™re a serious enthusiast, I suggest a visitโ€ฆ though if you arenโ€™t already living here, maybe after all of this idiocy shakes out one way or the other ๐Ÿ˜ฌ

[-] Contentedness@lemmy.nz 2 points 1 week ago

Oh cool, thanks for the tip! Yeah I think after all the idiocy shakes out sounds like a good plan. I reckon a NEIPA in those parts would be like a Guinness in Dublin!

Hey, maybe by then the Patriots will be back on top! (Referring to the NFL team, but I guess your could take it more literally, too ๐Ÿ˜ฌ)

Honestly, youโ€™ll be spoiled for choice. Thereโ€™s a ton of great breweries all over. The NEIPAs are very good, but thereโ€™s also some REALLY good traditional Germanic-styled breweries. Iโ€™d be happy to offer some recommendations (or meet for a pint or two!) whenever you get the chance to visit :)

[-] spud_rua@lemm.ee 1 points 1 week ago

Iโ€™d rather a Beamish in Cork over a Guinness in Dublin ;)

[-] noride@lemm.ee 2 points 1 week ago

I'm certainly not disagreeing that it tastes bad, but how did you come to learn it tastes like piss, specifically? ๐Ÿค”

[-] brotundspiele@feddit.org 5 points 1 week ago

It doesn't taste like piss. Piss is salty and bitter, or sweet and mild depending on what you drank and ate earlier and depending on your health status. American beer always tastes like nothing. ๐Ÿฅ‡๐Ÿšฟ
