“Car fails at a task that doesn’t even come close to simulating a realistic situation”

Are realistically painted brick walls a common occurrence where you live? What’s the point of even setting up that test other than to get a laugh because ‘car stupid’?

Car also failed a number of tasks simulating realistic situations that another car did not

If you bothered to look at the source.

I know that Musks duck is extra tasty with all that extra Trump sauce on it. But you might want to chill with sucking it. Senpai ain't gonna notice you.

there are some actual road runner like murals on parking lots and garage doors. i have seen some IRL and on the web. supposedly even real human drivers hit them sometimes

example from the web

You know what isn’t fooled by them? LiDAR sensors that Tesla refuses to use for its so called “full self driving”…

Probably saved like $120 a vehicle though.

And like, you drive with only your eyes, they're just like cameras!

They’re expensive equipment sold with the promise they will safely get you where you’re going. That’s clearly a lie.

Are realistically painted brick walls a common occurrence where you live?

Let me ask again: Are realistically painted brick walls [Edit: in the middle of the road] a common occurrence where you live?

[-] cogman@lemmy.world 9 points 1 month ago

No, but you know what is common? Realistic landscapes painted on the back and sides of trucks. And you know what Teslas have ran into? You guessed it, the backs and sides of trucks.

Here's a famous example of that https://www.theguardian.com/technology/2016/jul/01/tesla-driver-killed-autopilot-self-driving-car-harry-potter

I didn’t respond to that part because it doesn’t matter. There are nearly infinite visual shapes and colors out there on the road. It should have not failed this test. The visual system on the car isn’t safe enough to pilot itself.
