The fact that they think the modern Democratic Party is Marxist is crazy

[-] Asafum@feddit.nl 108 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago)

Their entire echo chamber is paid to say that over and over and over so it just becomes reality to them. I explained to a coworker that basically anyone that even slightly understands Marxism hears the right say that nonsense and it sounds like if I were to say "Donald Trump is a vegan organic farmer."

It's the same category as "woke" like this book:

Hallmark of brainwashing. Bypass critical thinking with vague statements of the outsiders "evil", but keeps followers from actually thinking about what they are saying with those statements.

Oh yeah! Well then how do you explain that the transmission is working in kahoots with this engine! /s

Mission = agenda... have we just uncovered the tRaNs aGeNdA we keep hearing about‽ 😱

Damn trannies, ruining women’s sports (that I don’t watch anyway). How would you like it if a female you knew had to use a bathroom with a …. Woman?

That’s why I like electric vehicles: no damn trannies. Gasoline engines are so woke! Wait …..

And the whole engine is powered by terrorism.

I looked it up and see, "Marxism is an economic and political theory that examines the flaws inherent in capitalism. It's primarily based on the work of German philosopher and economist Karl Marx. 1. Marxist theories were influential in the development of socialism, which advocates for the shared ownership of the means of production by workers"

... That sounds like it aligns with how I see it. I like to examine the flaws in capitalism and I don't think that we, as a group, are benefitting from once CEO per company making an ass load of money via greed. Am I Marxist or no?

[-] funkless_eck@sh.itjust.works 24 points 1 month ago

Don't confuse "post-Marxist understanding" with "being a Marxist."

Marx defined and described an ontology that even his opponents use as tools to describe the economy - but it wouldn't make sense to call opponents of Marx as 'Marxists' would it?

Just examining flaws in and of itself isn't socialism, although arguably saying capitalism has no flaws is pro-capitalist.

[-] frezik@midwest.social 8 points 1 month ago

Instead of checking a dictionary, do you want to ask actual Marixists what they think of the Democratic Party? You can find plenty of them around here. They tend not to have anything nice to say about the Democrats, and would be insulted at the comparison.

[-] SendMePhotos@lemmy.world 1 points 1 month ago

The down votes indicate that. I'm not really understanding so I'm ready to just accept the hate and move on. 🤷

[-] Uruanna@lemmy.world 6 points 1 month ago

It's because it's very reductive and weird to look at this one-line definition and ask if you're a Marxist. You're not automatically Christian just because you like giving to the poor and you saw on Wikipedia that Christianity gives to the poor, there's a lot more to it. You're a Marxist if you look up Marx's theory and decide you agree with all (maybe most) of it. There's a spectrum greater than not liking CEOs making money before asking if you're a Marxist, a Communist, or just a Libertarian.

Don't let that stop you if you want to learn more about it to see if you still like it.

[-] frayedpickles@lemmy.cafe 2 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago)

You have to pass the right gatekeepers to be Marxist because if there's one thing Marxists don't want is people on their side who don't necessarily agree with 100% of every economic idea from one dude a century ago... Apparently

[-] HK65@sopuli.xyz 8 points 1 month ago

Do you want to abolish capital, corporations and private property?

[-] Zementid@feddit.nl 9 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago)

I'm starting to like those ideas... don't threaten me with a good time. (Can't be worse than the global oligarchy we currently have).

[-] SendMePhotos@lemmy.world 3 points 1 month ago

I believe a limit on capital may better serve the citizens, or maybe a markup maximum? Maybe not having 30% APR as an allowable finance charge.

[-] zeroday 14 points 1 month ago

Or maybe when you reach $1B we take away all your money, maybe name a park after you, and put a little gold star on your ID and license plate so everyone can know you're on New Game+ and are super good at capitalism. Then they can show everyone how it's done by pulling themselves up by their bootstraps and proving they got rich through hard work and talent rather than luck and exploitation.

[-] SendMePhotos@lemmy.world 2 points 1 month ago

They win a golden McDonald's card?

[-] explodicle@sh.itjust.works 4 points 1 month ago

They're talking about the modern Democratic Party, not you personally.
