I'm proudly a queer weirdo:)

That news source is a joke. Go to the homepage and its filled with weird anti Chinese stuff about cannibalism in Shanghai! The first article on the homepage is:

Emperor Kangxi imprisoned him and raised him like a pig, so out of boredom he could only have children for fun, resulting in him fathering 29 children.

This is not a credible news source.

The "Chinese company profile" you linked is a VC research page, not an authoritative source.

There could be weirdness going on here though despite all that. The claim they are based in Singapore while Huabing Zhou of Wuhan University clearly has input (when I looked him up, the RustDesk team page was a search result on DDG, despite his name not appearing on the linked page) is a little odd. But as long as all the code is open I'm not too worried for self-hosters.

Looks like overworked devs did some pretty bad practice with certs, not as big of a deal as people are making it out to be. https://hackaday.com/2024/03/01/this-week-in-security-forksquatting-rustdesk-and-mms/

Can you please provide any sources for any of your claims?

[-] queerdo 11 points 6 days ago

I did some digging and there's no real basis for most of these claims. The company seems to be backed by a weird commercial OSS VC, with a founder with a hand in crypto bullshit, but that doesn't mean that the application is insecure. Also, for what its worth, I couldn't find any links to China outside of the rendezvous server thing.

I checked the wiki page edits - not sure which one you're referring to but I didn't see anything malicous or suspicious.

This article summed it up well https://hackaday.com/2024/03/01/this-week-in-security-forksquatting-rustdesk-and-mms/

Windows is packed full of ads and 'suggested content' now. It's really awful.

They are opposed to your existence because our class enemies have lied to them, not because they are evil people.

With education their anger (which is based on material reality; right wing demagogues consistently blame out groups (immigrants, trans people, women etc) for real issues like cost of living) can be channeled into opposing the capitalists and achieving true class liberation. Many Trump voters are moving leftwards because of the economic devastation that every US voter is feeling, and writing them all off is unhelpful to our cause.

Private social media is your best bet, but if you don't want your content scraped, the only surefire way is not to post it online. But realistically it's a risk vs reward scenario, not a black and white one. There are places you could post content and have it be less likely to be scraped, but once it's out there there's always the chance.

The idea that labor day is celebrated in September, and not May 1st, since that commemorates the Haymarket Affair.

It's frightening to see how much depends on AWS with the outage today

OC, I used the xkcd script font from https://github.com/ipython/xkcd-font

I got the ACCUPOUR 1 gallon measuring pitcher on amazon after being recommended it from City Steading Brewing, who was poetic about it, and I wasn't disappointed! I never thought I'd love a pitcher but I love this one.

Raised dark markings with dual scale metric and imperial, amazing handle and the spout is AMAZING! I'm able to take ½oz samples from a gallon of liquid into a shot glass no issue.

They make smaller ones too, which I haven't tried but work the same.
