The gulags were populated for good reason. "Waaahhh communists killed millions in their gulags," yeah, millions of Nazis. Yet apparently that still wasn't enough.
Guns. They disarmed the UK in 1997 and told us to "Keep calm and carry on."
Yeah that's a hard one to parse, but is a clear level head in time of catastrophe considered sane? I mean if a fireman was screaming at me to get out of the burning house I wouldn't be like, "Jeez keep your voice down."
"But without ~~religion~~ laws how will I know what's right or wrong?" Anarchists are just atheists who go one god further.
If thats the story of the future you believe, then that's what you'll get. I prefer to believe in an option that'll solve it sooner, nukes be damned, I dare them to nuke the world they so depend on for power. If only we could start telling ourselves a better, more realistic story of humanity instead of a pessimistic one. Not saying it's gonna be pretty, but neither is 300 years of technofascism. You want reality to become that movie 'Equilibrium'? That's how you get reality to become that movie 'Equilibrium.' And if there aren't any Grammaton Clerics to save you now there won't be then.
A stable paycheck to believe otherwise is the most convincing. "I would do something, but I can't risk losing my job" is the most common excuse for allowing tyranny.
Or when you don't realize that it already is directly affecting you because "They pay me well enough to keep me in a comfy box, I don't have time to do anything or read or risk losing my job" while the ones they love are picked off one by one. Then when they come out the other side they go "How did all this happen? It was equally the fault of the radicals on both sides." Thus the unenlightened centrist cycle will continue.
That was before WW2, no less. Funny how after all that happened, people saw that and went, "Yeah that was a good idea."
I figure ProPublica and The Lancet doesn't feel the need to write about a Nazi salute we could all see for our own eyes, no investigative journalism necessary.
There's no mark of edit, you read it wrong. In your world is it more likely that comment was stealthily editted to dunk on you than simply you being wrong about something?
It's also worth mentioning the consolation in the fact that fascism always fails, eats itself alive, and collapses. It's inherently unstable and unsustainable. It can collectivize a lot of power real fast, and do a lot of damage as a result, but it never lasts. Human beings need to cooperate, and hyper competitive individualism creates false loyalty and betrayals, minimal trust, minimal cooperation. Great pains and efforts, and the use of their power, is always spent trying to fight against human nature to maintain their order. Human nature always prevails.
Hard agree. If rioters burned down mansions instead of small businesses we'd see change sooner.
