I think rexxit is the catalyst to get the platform ready. I don't think rexxit is a one and done thing. It's gonna be more of a constant trickle, and lemmy is in a very good place to absorb more users. I browsed /r/all today, and saw many comments of people saying the frontpage sucks because there's no content. Spez might like to pretend there's no impact to reddit, but there's certainly going to be a big impact at least in the near term.

I didn't know api changes means 3rd party apps no longer can show nsfw content. Nobody's going to pay a subscription and not be able to see stuff that they can see on the official app. Looks like reddit is giving all 3rd party app developers a shitty deal whichever way you cut it.

Yeah I wouldn't have ever signed up for lemmy if this api thing hadn't come about. This is my first fediverse experience. I was pissed at reddit, but now I don't care about reddit one way or another. Lemmy has gained enough users to sustain itself even if there is no more mass migration. There is an active community here that will help lemmy grow organically over time.

I don't think anybody can say beehaw is in any way representative of lemmy.ml politics. As far as I can see, it's the farthest thing from lemmy.ml or any other politics on either spectrum. I actually think beehaw is a fine example of how independent different instances can be.

Is there a reason why they're doing this? Blackout's not even political. They just want to be contrarian to everything.

I like to see kids related stuff, but I always hesitate to show anything I find there to my little daughter because the community is called 'kidsarefuckingstupid'. I know that's a tongue in cheek name, but I would like to see communities like /c/kidsbeingkids , /c/kidsbeingsmart, /c/kidsbeingderps, etc. I'm not a prude, but I would like to be able to share stuff without looking like I hate kids. I can help moderate the community(ies).

This happening in the middle of the API gate seems like a pretty dumb move, even for Reddit.

I don’t remember the name of these plants, but I’m betting you people can identify no problem. They were both bought at the same time but one of them is dying. It was initially on the other side of the door. They thought maybe the sun was killing it and moved it to the shade, but it doesn’t seem to me improving. Is it gone? Can it be brought back? Please advise.

Over the years I’ve become a glass half full kind of a person when small people fight against big corporations. Eventually the dust settles, and the people give up, but the company goes on. There are exceptions, but this has been the norm. I would be pleasantly surprised if all this actually brings Reddit’s downfall.

I think there are two reasons. I think Reddit has way more ‘normal’ users than Digg who feel strongly about this, and there is no one single Reddit to replace Digg this time around. Please correct me if I’m wrong.

He ‘doubled down’ because there was nothing else he could do. Iamthatis was meticulous in his takedown, and short of apologizing, there was nothing spez could say to make it better.

I don’t get this weird need to be contrary to everything, doesn’t it get exhausting?

That might not work as you think it would because the rss feed does not include the discussions. For that you need to visit reddit, and discussions are what make reddit what it is. I'd much rather if they migrate here, but if that's not possible, at least if we have a bot crossposting stuff from there to here, so that we can have our own discussions going on that topic.

I’m fine with this, as long as the devs check to verify if their game works well with proton and provide support if it breaks.

Data hoarders are a weird bunch that is absolutely essential to society. (Speaking as a steam game hoarder who has played less than 5% of the games I’ve bought. I just can’t seem to stop buying games)
