The big claim is that R1 was trained on far less computing power than OpenAI’s models at a fraction of the cost.

And people believe this ... why? I mean, shouldn't the default assumption about anything anyone in AI says is that it's a lie?

From the "flipping through LessWrong for entertainment" department:

What effect does LLM use have on the quality of people's thinking / knowledge?

  • I'd expect a large positive effect from just making people more informed / enabling them to interpret things correctly / pointing out fallacies etc.

Among the leadership of the biggest AI capability companies (OpenAI, Anthropic, Meta, Deepmind, xAI), at least 4/5 have clearly been heavily influenced by ideas from LessWrong.

I'm trying, but I can't not donate any harder!

The most popular LessWrong posts, SSC posts or books like HPMoR are usually people's first exposure to core rationality ideas and concerns about AI existential risk.

Unironically the better choice: https://archiveofourown.org/donate

"I have been unfailingly polite, and [your lemmy instance has] been nothing but rude."

The only argument I find here against it is the question of whether someone’s personal opinions should be a reason to be removed from a leadership position.

What do these people think leadership is?

Regarding the paper "Discovery of a structural class of antibiotics with explainable deep learning", a comment by e. e. arroyo:

"Yes! we can make explainable predictions of compounds with AI now!"

  • They could only explain 15% of predictions
  • They could only understand 9% of those explanations
  • 60% of those were wrong
  • The 4 active compounds left are probably, arguably, not even a novel class

I imagine it was an article about how "Sex workers are skeptical that crypto can answer all their financial problems".
