ExU: Divergence | Part 4

"By Heart Alone"

Rising up it's eastern side, illuminated by the faintest early rays of dawn light. Its western edge still lavender and indigo; the snow and stone facing the receding night in the west.
The mountain knows heaven's stare, here in the lands of Yssilra.
The city of Vasselheim.
This city awakens in a new day. Having seen the dawning of yet another age, walls (the outer edge shattered and laid low, sundered by the blows of gods themselves) scatter here and yet the city stands.
Vasselheim, the Dawn City.
It had seen the Founding, the clashes of the Schism, the heights of the Age of Arcanum. In these streets at one point fell the footsteps of Vespin Chloras (who would call the Calamity upon the world and those long centuries of ruin would the Dawn City weather and survive). And now yet another age comes to this eternal place where mortals walk hand in hand, arm in arm, knowing that a new day has come to Exandria.
Carts move hither and to. You see the muddy unpaved streets (in some ways this city harkens back to all of the older ages of its long long life), massive masonry blocks of stone (the buildings of this place, even the ones that aren't temples have a feeling of reverence and adoration), everything here is built to last. Even the rubble has some solemnity and gravity to it, here in this place.
As you approach, having traveled for days across stormy seas, all the way to the city of Seagate, and then some thirty miles inland to the city of Vasselheim. Taking in the thousands upon thousands of people that call this place home (seeing a structure that dwarfs Rybad-Kol many times over), the vast neighborhoods and temples towering (a place that has been protected for so long by the Prime Deities), and you see a people. Humans, elves, dwarves (the vast and sundried peoples of Exandria) and a feeling here of panic, but the kind of panic that precedes both hope and despair.

Something is changing.

Lost Odyssey: Godfall Reunites Tabletop Legends for Actual Play Charity Game Special

article by Rotem Rusak

The Book of Knowledge opens once again… and from deep within its pages comes a new one-of-a-kind actual play game special from Lost Odyssey, the star-studded celebrity gaming series. But this new one-shot legend, titled Lost Odyssey: Godfall, isn’t just any ordinary tabletop roleplaying experience. Oh, no. It’s extraordinary in many ways. First, and most importantly, Lost Odyssey: Godfall reunites tabletop icons in support of Extra Life for Kids, a program of Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals. And second, Lost Odyssey: Godfall will bring you two immersive experiences you won’t want to miss, incorporating VR into the game in a way that will bring you right to the table.

To get the full sense of what’s in store for you in Lost Odyssey: Godfall, check out the campaign’s first-look trailer.

Lost Odyssey: Godfall, presented by Pathfinder & Demiplane, is coming soon to Geek & Sundry. This actual play game special will showcase a new Pathfinder story set in War of Immortals. Pathfinder, by Paizo, is one of the world’s top fantasy role-playing game systems, and a Pathfinder game is always going to be an incredibly good time.

But we bet you want a recap of who exactly will be seated at the table. Well, this Lost Odyssey entry reunites some of the absolute greatsOpens in a new tab. Lost Odyssey: Godfall will star Matt Mercer as Ghentros, Reggie Watts as Bronwyn, Deborah Ann Woll as Audrey, Felicia Day as Sylph, & Brandon Routh as Palanon, alongside Game Master Bill Rehor (Beadle & Grimm’s). And they’ll be embarking on an adventure that will have you at the edge of your seat.

Showrunners DiMuccio & Miller have adapted the game into two immersive experiences, joining together with the teams of Lost Odyssey & Light Sail VR. First, the game special, is described as “a cinematic journey where audiences will see our heroes join together in the aftermath of the cosmic events born of the new Pathfinder landscape.” And two, the VR experience, “where for the first time fans get to sit down with the players at the table and feel the adventure around them. The magic of a home game, next to tabletop legends.” Stay tuned to learn more about both journeys.

Of course, as we mentioned, the most important aspect of all is that the Lost Odyssey: Godfall campaign’s chief mission is to support Extra Life. You can help support the work Extra Life does by checking out Lost Odyssey’s Extra Life Superteam page where you’ll find treasures in a collection of games, show exclusive props, tabletop gear, and more. Just to be clear, 100% of all proceeds benefit Extra Life for Kids, a program of Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals. Whether or not you secure a fun treat, you’re welcome to donate to this good cause. Extra Life is “mobilizes passionate gamers to help treat sick and injured kids in their local communities.” We invite you to immerse yourself in the campaign action and help save lives. What could be better than that?

As we mentioned, Lost Odyssey: Godfall and all the Matt Mercer, Felicia Day, and co. fun will be coming soon to Geek & Sundry‘s channels. And you, of course, you’re the most important part. Welcome back to the table.

"Mirror and Key"

We return to the world of Exandria.
In Torm's hill.
It is the morning after: mourning, revelry, fierce battle, and a taste of freedom. The noise that summons you from sleep to wakefulness is the noise of the camp looking out to the west from a taller ridge out past the briars (towards the edge). Near where Erro, the night before, saw the dawn for your very first time as daylight broke. And you see people mesmerized, shouting, cheering, looking out as they point towards a vast valley to the west. Shaped in ages long ago before the Calamity, before even the Age of Arcanum (for those learned few in Exandria that even know of that eon of the world).
Looking to the west, people cheer and weep with amazement as you see Nez (one of the matriarchs of Torm's Hill) going,

"This was briar and ash...briar and ash alone! There was nothing..."
And for any who join, you see (through the grey clouds overhead) areas where the clouds go from grey to white. No pure ray of light breaking through, but enough coming through the white clouds to illuminate. Black and red stone, charred rocky fields, and yet glimmers of distant grass or trees that seem to have sprouted up seemingly overnight. The arms of dead forest reaching towards Rybad Kol that were sundered in the falling of the Strife Emperor. Here (farther away from the realm of his influence) you see cool cold dewey wind blowing across the distant fields. For many of you the first time you have ever seen a field of grass in your life.
You gather belongings and rations; spend another day preparing for your journey forward. You see many similarly preparing. Torm's Hill is enormous and more refugees and prisoners and escapees are pouring in every day. But Torm's Hill (while it is a place of safety) is also closest to those realms of the Strife Emperor and whatever his former soldier or marauders (like those that Efkedrial joined in the waste) are doing back in that ash-choked land. Torm's Hill is a place of safety and strength and gathering, but not a place for the tender. For the weak, the innocent. Those look to the west and to new fields growing and begin (perhaps much more slowly than you all) to think of their own preparations for what a free life would be under even the dim light of a sun behind the clouds.
The following morning, you are preparing to head out. Many of you with a resurgence of belief, of hope. A certainty of the gifts you now wield. And one of you (the only one who has not gained a level of a PC class) gainst a Wisdom of the Earth feature to inscribe on your stat block. Allowing you to add a 1d12 of Inspiration relating to terrain and structures. There is a deeper secret within, that if at some point we arrive in an area of of Exandria to which Garen has some ancestral familiarity, it may take whatever shape most pleases you.
As you prepare to disembark from this place, the morning that you are set to leave, a small group gathers. Erro, you see Nez and Klyssara embrace you once again. You see looking up at you, Klyssara grasps your hand (Nia), kissing it and thanking you. She's been working side by side with you on the injured and sick. Since you've arrived, two more doctors and nurses have arrived; people with knowledge of medicine have arrived. So, even as you depart, there are two more to take your place. Garen you receive a large embrace from Bolray the old Bugbear (who now holds a small hammer at his side) and nods in a sense of the lessons you have imparted with him. Fiedra sees Otto and Tevine both cross their arms looking at you. You see Tevine make a face and say,

"Shame you're leaving. Now that we cut out Marlath's tongue, we could really run quite a game on this town. You know what I mean?"

Avowed

A one-shot adventure

Join Game Master Matthew Mercer for a special Avowed inspired one-shot as he guides players Marisha Ray, Travis Willingham, Anjali Bhimani, SungWon Cho, and Whitney Moore through the Living Lands and shadow-haunted shores.

Welcome to Eora, a vast and mysterious world of magic, politics, and discovery where empires weave and rove over their interests in the many gods who have presided in ages past over the Wheel (the cycle of rebirth the soul underdakes with each passing). The soul itself is a studied thing, a being's own essence, and its mechanics themselves are studied across many lands within the field of animancy. Texts and great machines recovered from the ancient civilization known as the Engwithans pertained to and manipulated souls in ways that are still not fully understood.
But such matters carry little interest where our story begins, as a sizable prison ship recently set sail from the Aedryan capital city of Highcrown heading northward.
This ship, the Dancing Umbrage, carries a cargo of numerous convicts of varying degrees of notoriety, shackled then prepped into the ship for arrival to the Living Lands, the northern frontier island where numerous settlements and foreign colonies now seek to expand and claim dominion over the region's diverse geography and bountiful resources. Rumors swirl of unnaturally abundant landscapes and uncovered relics belonging to prehistoric culture, and the pursuit of such interests requires labor. Well, no labor is cheaper than prisoners without choice, prisoners that now wait within the belly of the Dancing Umbrage pushing onward across a choppy sea as a storm brews beyond.
So here, deep below the deck, the dull, swinging lantern light barely lighting the interior of these barred cells. The strong sense of musky sweat and mildew, salt-soaked wood itself giving this awful mixture of smells that sting the senses, like an invisible mist that hangs in the air around you. The loud sounds of hard exterior rainfall hitting the hull of the ship, the undulating creaking of the wood with each shift of every heavy wave causing you all to rock and push against the bars and wood that surround you.
Here in the shadows of this ship, the many criminals sent on this "adventure" sit behind these bars sliding with each of these heavy swings. A wooden cage filled with a unique mix of white collar criminals, grifters, thugs, and some career crooks all eager to be free from this seaside rocking coffin.
As we shift over to one of the two adjacent cells, with but a set of bars between them, what are you doing?

"Seven of Them"

We return to the Rifenmist Peninsula in the south of Gwessar. A continent that has not yet earned the name Taldorei. In an age long past, where a group of straggling survivors escape the ruin of the Prison of Rybad Kol. Headed north towards a whisper, or a promise, of safety.
A community known as Torm's Hill. Pockets of civilization here in the height of Calamity are few and far between. It's been less than two years since you were there. But two years is normally long enough for a group of people (trying to survive the Calamity) to be found and slaughtered. Those that you will find (or if indeed you will live long enough to find it).
After the event's mysterious, cosmic, divine in ways and yet oh so very real, that unfolded. Shattered stone. Lightning and thunder. Roots growing before your very eyes. Lights of some strange insect. So very wild and mundane and also so unworldly. Or in the locket of your sister.
Scattered from the other companions of your gang. Sent forward into the unknown, you have been travelling for days following a stretch of magically-conjured woodland hiding from the eyes of whatever this world now holds now that 'up is down' and chaos reigns.
We return to the moments after the falling of Starmy and Fiddleflask and the witnessing of a colossal figure moving across the landscape. Crocus, at your feet, made of thick leather cord and clasp, made of dragon ivory. A gift from a god whose care is as profound as it is fleeting. And glibly given.
The lightning fades and you are left in dark forest and you do the only thing that you can. Put one weary foot in front of the other.
You are three days from where you believe Torm's Hill to be. Some of you have two levels of exhaustion already. Starmion just became rid of his very last (Insta death at 6 levels), now knowing rest that you do not. You have three days left, assuming your party can move at regular speed. However, if enough of you hit that second level of exhaustion, then that three days might turn into six. So, lets see if you all die before even a single combat.

I know lots of antivaxxers spread Covid while traveling and the avian pandemic will likely have just as much help if not more now. Capitalism giving those fat greasy dollars the ability to travel anywhere, so there go tourist destinations.

It’s an old Jeff Foxworthy joke, too.

If you have a working television set on top of a non-working television, you might be a redneck.

The arts also tend to flourish with technological innovation making other tasks less time-consuming. More comics with this cool dragon could be made.

The USPS has been abused by DeJoy, another trump appointee, who filled the fleet with more gas vehicles with less efficiency than previous models. That and removing public mail boxes for “reasons that totally didn’t have to do with mail-in voting helping Democrats win elections, promise.”

This sounds like a moral position until actually having one’s life threatened. There’s no reason to give bravery credit to a statement. That scene showed the paralysis effect of our brain, the ENTIRE POINT is that he was unable to save his friend. Same point is referenced multiple times in the book, and once more(without nominal reference) in the series. Spielberg and Hanks saved their audience of most of the visible anguish and tears in the interwoven interviews. Honestly, the author of the book saves the audience from details, too. It was all THAT BAD.
So.
The folks who said it “wasn’t that bad” and “Hillary evil”, nearly in the same breath, have an accessible platform with an audience that can presume engagement (including purchasing). Jones even attacked parents of murdered children with his newfound power. Confirming that infamous line about absolute (in his small pond) power: it corrupts absolutely.

Facts. The people loudly freaking out at the Supreme Court were right all along. Innocent women will be punished during a traumatic experience that is more than punishment enough. The amount of shame for this and other consequences of Conservative legislation will need to be applied for generations. They have proven to be a lice or bedbug infestation and proper treatment is necessary.
