Im sure the Gamers (capital g intentional, derogatory) will love it. And then act really confused when games feel unresponsive, weird and floaty, and blame this on the devs and not their graphics card which is hallucinating most of the frames.
They’re targeted at execs. It’s execs who get all excited that they can start firing their expensive and pesky developers that complain so much.
I think there might also be a bit of d) OpenAI has weird nerds defending the honour of their AIfu.
Imagine whistleblowing about unethical behaviour and than have thousands of nerds need to argue about how that what you did technically isnt whistleblowing.
Lol, the guy goes normal weird high school level shitposter when he has the slightest pushback.
I hope for the most people here the dubious history of the Brave browser is well known right?
Don't worry Roko has the support of the best mind of our generation behind him: Roko: "Elon is absolutely right that Tunnels[sic] would solve traffic"
E: More on the best minds, somebody in the comments : "'it[a country selling their land to a new country] has happened' is far less rare than CREATING the land, which has never happened.". Are we a joke to you? [this sentence was translated from Dutch].
The social safety net here is so poor that even the amount you get for unemployment is the same as it was decades ago, which doesn’t pace with inflation and can’t even cover rent anymore.
In .nl our far right gov has seen this and decided to uncouple unemployment and wages/inflation as well. So yeah lol.
No shut downs of large AI training
At least the lack of Rationalist suicide bombers running at data centers and shouting 'Dust specks!' is encouraging.
You don't understand, after we invent ~~god~~ AGI all our problems are solved. Now step into the computroniuminator, we need your atoms for more compute.
One of the problems with the 'alignment problem' is that one group doesn't care about a large part of the possible alignment problems and only cares about theoretical extinction level events and not about already occurring bias, and other issues. This also causes massive amounts of critihype.
As often is the case here on awful systems, both sides are bad. Matt Ridley is a climate change denying shouty british aristocrat person all mad that greenpeace is not admitting there is a possibility windmills might be affecting whales (71 dead ones in the uk last year, no idea about the average of dead wales) (iirc according to research it isn't the windmills it is the increased and intensified ship traffic), if you were wondering why the article is written so badly that it seems like it is written by a dark side sneerclub commenter (aka a focus more on funny sneers than making an solid case, which is fine for this silly site, but he is pretending to be a science reporter).
(Taking the risks of viruses (whatever their origin) is good of course, just deciding that covid is synthetic is sneerworthy, as is only focusing on synthetic viruses because handwave AGI intelligence is magic).
Also note that Matt wrote a book arguing that covid came from a lab, so this article is also just book promotion. (he is also of course, a libertarian).
Fun story, so on reddit I got a reply on a 4 year old 'AGI is prob not going to happen' post of mine of somebody going 'has your mind changed now?' (and yes, I think it is prob less likely), and while I was amused at the start already (the only reason to ask that question is to think my mind has changed, are impressed by the LLMs ability to go AGI, which means you don't get what I think about it), then I checked their profile (their username already was sus to me). A hardcore redpiller who now spends their time being mad their LLM chatbot no longer accepts erotic chats.
Which is to say, the tabloid got the gender wrong, but only because some men don't get that women are people.
