You know what, that's fair.

I saw a lot of discussion in the comments about their workers pay, but honestly, they make a great product. Wouldn't wanna be counting pennies in someone elses pockets. I donated a one time 25 bucks, I hope they will continue to ask for donations whenever they are in dire need of server running money.

"If you are using an iFrame to display a site that isn't yours, even for legitimate purposes, you have no control over that content—it can change at any time," Simmons warns. "One day instead of looking into an iFrame, you might be looking at an entirely different kind of portal."

Holy shit this guy is amazing.

I get it though. People trying to monetize your work which was purposely hosted for free without ads would drive me mad too.

The Amazing Digital Circus is a psychological dark comedy about cute cartoon characters who hate their lives and want to leave!

I appreciate your consideration but if you smoke regularly, chances are you don't truly realize how bad you smell and just how far the stench carries.

Also the argument of dying early is flawed. It's not just about dying early, it's about the quality of life you'll face at the end of your life. I don't mean to freak you out, but heavy smokers have a LOT of trouble doing anything physical in old age (climbing 10 stairs, standing up, walking a few steps, eating,...). I've seen firsthand how my grandpa that liked to take walks for hours a day went to basically disabled, in the timeframe of roughly ~15 years. All due to decreased lung capacity caused by smoking.

For clarification, I am not talking about using multiple accounts. I am talking about using a single account, and giving your own post a single upvote.

So, I have been doing daily posts of some anime fanart for a while now and noticed something.

If you post something, unlike on reddit, kbin does not initially upvote your own post. This lead me to an interesting (albeit old) discovery. If you upvote your own post directly after posting, it gains more visibility and reaches a higher number of upvotes on average. Posts that I did not give the initial upvote consistently gained less visibility and a lower number of upvotes.

Admittedly, this is not news, same principle was true on reddit as well, the initial impression in roughly the first hour of a post dictates most of its visibility for its lifetime. However, upvoting your own post does have a bit of an odd feeling. I like the content I post and am glad when people see it, so I upvote it most of the time, however, doesn't it hold an unfair advantage over people who don't upvote their own posts and just let the community create the visibility of the post?

I'd be interested to hear other peoples thoughts on it.

finally a decent use of this dumbass meme format.

I hate how the majority of the time this is used, it can be summed up with "girls boring, boys fun haha".
Thought we left that sorta thinking behind in elementary school?
Anyway, fuck gender stereotypes, we're all just humans trying to wing it.

I think the worst part of it all is the trust that is irrevocably broken now.
This is obviously a moronic scummy decision driven by greed, but it also goes directly against past decisions. As per this reddit post, Unity actually had a TOS in action that protected Developers against retroactive changes like this. Specifically, it stated that you could choose to continue using old versions of the engine and comply to the old TOS if an update to the TOS that you disagree with ever happened. This specific part of the TOS was deleted last year.

If they actually try to enforce this new crap on already released games (that accepted an older version of the TOS) then it would seem blatantly illegal (I'm not a lawyer though).

Even if they revert everything by tomorrow, the whole fiasco still shows where Unity's current interests are, and make the company a liability to deal with for any game developer.

Which humans are you blaming exactly?

I don't think it's fair to blame the users. They toggle bluetooth off and think it's off. How are they supposed to know "Bluetooth Off" means "Only some amount of Bluetooth is off"?
And I don't think designing a convincing phishing device is that much of a leap in logic. Bluetooth is off, so maybe the notification is legit from apple and needs authority for a connection?

If you blame the designers who left a backdoor in the bluetooth, then yea that's fair.

As of press time, Tomlin had browsed the Steam store while riding to work and bought Hi-Fi Rush, Dave the Diver, and Street Fighter 6, before ultimately just booting up Vampire Survivors again.

Didn't expect to be called out like that first thing in the morning holy shit.

I don't know, that comparison kinda humanizes a corporation that is very much looking to go public and make itself valuable to shareholders. I don't like to think of these websites as "friends".

Yes, reddit's a tragic shitshow, but there is absolutely no guarantee the same won't happen on any fediverse instance either. We should always look out to jump ship if we start to notice like a website is sacrificing user wishes for personal gain.
