I know right? It's like as if we have no semblance of control with politicians at the helm. OR I think it's just that people that are making the decisions of who the contracts go to have no knowledge nor are they qualified to actually make the call.
I mean...we do have this Stellantis case going on. While not the same kind of scenario, but they better have something in place to ensure they don't just "run away" if it's a non-Canadian own firm.
On the other hand, it's appalling how every single government project seems to be always over budget, underdelivered and/or delayed. Then when I go look at the big government projects that's around the world, compare to what we got, I always feel like we got scammed.
Unintended consequences? Of what? Living like it's 2010, before the slow build up of mass enshittification of everything that's on the internet since then? Sure. I'd rather have kids playing some video games - ones that likely will teach them some skills rather than doom scrolling and being fed algorithmic AI slop.
I have no problem if he's trying to sell things on his channel. As a matter of fact, trying to sort through the best, economical of something these days have become a nightmare. Try searching online for the 'best' of anything and you're bombarded with so many choices. He's done the heavy lifting for you already.
Keep it up with the quality content and promoting good products!
Framing it as "helpful" is stupid and irrelevant. Where you spend your hard earned money is a form of voting. Buying a product isn't just a simple trade of goods and services anymore - it hasn't been in a long time as long capitalism is the dominant form of monetary policy of the governments around the world.
Again people, keep voting with your wallets. It's actually more effective than what many governments at many levels can do!
Anyone blaming unions are a fool. Sure you can keep pointing at the bad unions of this and that with abusive power. The overall calculus of it all is that it is good for the worker and good for the economy. The boomer middle class got to where it was is because of unions. Full stop.
Section 107 when used should trigger something like dissolving the C-suite and the board if government intervention is needed to resolve the dispute. After all, they are asking the government to do THEIR jobs because they made it worse due to THEIR poor management. But hey, people love blaming unions and the worker drone below trying to do the jobs they were hired for right? Right?
There will be people saying about "free market" - don't kid yourself - in Canada and many countries, there's no such thing. Government subsidies, incentives, tax credits etc all go against that concept. I'm not for a full blown "free market". That would be disastrous all around in this current reality.
I think everyone has the wrong take on this. If this happened to someone on the left, most people will just twiddles their thumbs on their keyboards and goes on about their lives.
What people need to realize is his actions and what he has promoted has consequences.
I'll leave it at that.
The correct terminology is people want to be able to express themselves and explore the world without being judged. Finding a purpose in what they want to do in and with their life. After all, no one was chosen to be born.
The orange juice coming from the US has been unpalatable for the last decade or so. They've all turned into generic standard artificially recomposed but still marketed as 100% orange juice. They used to taste different depending on the seasons and now they're all the same across the board. Instead, I just eat fruits and water. Plus, orange juice is high in sugar - so it's not as healthy as people think.
Nothing but hypocrisy from Visa and MasterCard - there are far more NSFW content on Xitter than in games and yet I don't see a peep of them banning payment towards that little blue checkmark.
The media can keep bashing the Canadian government scrapping the tax. The last minute "capitulation" as many in the media is framing it as, while true, is also disingenuous on how Canada has to deal with the US given the cards it has in hand. Canada right now still relies heavily on exporting things to the US and keeping the US at the table talking is the best it can do right now until it can secure other trade deals around the world. Proximity matters and even more so when they are still is a superpower.
Canada still has many options despite this digital tax. What about banning US big tech? What about changing the rules about tech companies entering Canadian job space (and it doesn't have to be a tax)? Other countries have managed (eg. China, Denmark), so why can't Canada? The government can fight on one front, but Canadians themselves also have to. The boycott of travel to the US and of US goods clearly has made impact, but Canadians can do more. Support open source software like Linux, move away from Adobe and so forth. There are alternatives and some even Canadian ones. If we are to truly give the Canadian government good tools to fight, we too must do our jobs individually.
My own personal take on top of that is: no one had a choice to be born into this world nor their initial circumstances.
