This is like Orwell who devoted his life as a (anarchist leaning) democratic socialist to fight authoritarianism.

And now authoritarian things are called “Orwellian”.

Did not know the World Court was the name for the UN’s highest court…

Anyways… International law is pretty much fiction given enforcement so…

Liquor Liscence is common. Policing where people are allowed to drink what they bought is pretty uncommon.

25 January 2025 - The journalist, human rights defender and founder of the media platform “Electronic Intifada” was violently and forcibly taken by two individuals in civilian dress, who claimed to be police, but refused to identify themselves, when he was walking on the streets of Zurich this afternoon. They refused to disclose alleged grounds for sequestring him and where they would take him. Abunimah was scheduled to speak this afternoon at a teach-in on the history of Palestine, organised by local groups. He is now held under administrative detention by the cantonal police, who intends to keep him several nights in custody until they deport him out of the country next week.

Putain on dirait nos authorités s’inspirent de Trump.

Jacob Rees-Mogg’s Tory fantasy of a post-Brexit bonfire of regulations is coming true. Our bodies and ecosystems will pay the price

It’s what the extreme right of the Tory party wanted from Brexit: to tear down crucial public protections, including those that defend us from the most brutal and dangerous forms of capital. The Conservatives lost office before they were able to do their worst. But never mind, because Labour has now picked up the baton.

A month ago, so quietly that most of us missed it, the government published a consultation on deregulating chemicals. While most consultations last for 12 weeks, this one runs for eight, half of which cover the holiday period – it closes on 18 August. The intention is set out at the beginning: to reduce “costs to business”. This, as repeated statements by Keir Starmer make clear, means tearing up the rules.

Not Brazilian. But as someone who has had the privilege to travel around in the past, the US was the only country I visited that had these super strict Puritan Alcohol laws.

Imagine being the richest person on earth and best you can come up with for a new restaurant is the most boring menu at ridiculous prices.

Edit: To be fair tho, gonna need a source on this. Since OP hasn’t provided a link or anything.
