I think it’s been a month, maybe two?

You should read the post by Stamets about the move to get some more context about why the new community, if that interests you.

[-] kellyaster@lemmy.world 70 points 1 year ago

A few of us did leave comments and posts behind telling people where to go, but they quickly got deleted by the mod. Sorry, we tried. Glad you managed to find us!

[-] GroteStreet@aussie.zone 48 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago)

While I enjoy the content, I subscribe to neither. Rest assured that anyone who has browsed Hot or Top 24h would sooner or later be made aware of the existence of TenForward. The ~~spam~~ quality content here tend to bubble up to the top. 🖖

Heh, of course he did. It takes a real big brain to kill a community where the only rule is “there are no rules.” A big, smooth brain.

[-] kellyaster@lemmy.world 12 points 1 year ago

Hey, you're the creator of the original r/risa back on Reddit! Yeah, it's crazy how quickly the burrito truck tanked it...the exodus practically happened overnight! I found out about Ten Forward not 48 hours after Stamets created it, and by then 95% of the posters had already moved away from Risa. I'm sorry they killed your creation, it's a real shame it had to happen over such stupid reasons.

[-] GuyFleegman@lemmy.dbzer0.com 13 points 1 year ago

I sure am, and thanks!

Yeah, I am genuinely sad they killed it... but not all that surprised. I cut ties with that instance precisely because their moderation style is so opaque and capricious. It's great to see the spirit of the place live on here.

The removed my posts asking people to post more because of "drama"

I didn't even know there was "drama" until recently. I like the idea of startrek[.]website but I don't like the way its being run. They should do a voluntary shift change.

[-] samus12345@lemmy.world 10 points 1 year ago

startrek.website is a disgrace to the principles of its namesake.

This is the gritty yellow-brown paste I needed. Savory.

[-] ramble81@lemm.ee 39 points 1 year ago

I noticed it switched when all the good Star Trek memes in my “all” feed switched from Risa to TenForward. Didn’t even know there was drama over on the other board until I saw the post. That’s one of the nice things about the fediverse, don’t like it, switch somewhere else and if the votes follow, everyone will see it.

[-] teft@lemmy.world 20 points 1 year ago

Democracy in action! Long live the United Federation of Memes!

[-] Dudewitbow@lemmy.zip 19 points 1 year ago

I mean a good chunk of people left an entire site for various misgivings, if any mod has a power trip, the group of people willing to leave an entire site is likely also willing to switch a community if someones on a trip.

[-] roscoe@startrek.website 37 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago)

Am I being deprived of Stamets' memes because of some thin-skinned power-tripping douche mod?

Time for a new instance. Any recommendations for a stable instance that federates with everyone (except for the worst, of course)?

Edit: If anyone is confused, I meant to reply to this comment that links to Stamets' recent rundown on the whole kerfuffle.

Edit 2: I just learned something I'd like to share with anyone else that needs to know. If a user (Stamets, for example) is banned on your instance (startrek.website, for example) even here, a community on lemmy.world, you can't see his posts. Not only that, but if he comments you can't see any replies to his comment. There are a lot of comments in this thread startrek.website users can't see.

If you don't want overzealous admins curating your experience on other instances, you might want to find a new instance.

[-] Stamets@lemmy.world 12 points 1 year ago

Well, you can't see me at all but I'd obviously recommend lemmy.world personally although lemmy.dbzer0.com is a close second. I've heard mixed things about lemm.ee's administration. sh.itjust.works is pretty good for the most part. I've got some personal experience with a couple of admins who are really kind people who work way too hard.

[-] Unforeseen@sh.itjust.works 12 points 1 year ago

Sh.itjust.works has been excellent for me since joining. Any outages we have had have been resolved quickly and I have yet to see any spam.

[-] Chetzemoka@lemmy.world 11 points 1 year ago

I just jumped over to world because of all this. That makes my third instance in less than a year after leaving kbin.social for startrek land a few months ago. Lemmy is a little exhausting.

[-] roscoe@startrek.website 16 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago)

But at least that's an option. There is no non-spez instance of reddit, non-musk instance of twitter, or non-zuck instance of meta-stuff to jump to.

I took both of the other respondents suggestions. It only took a few minutes to get approved at both and now I can see Car Talk With Martok again.

I didn't even know that the admin of my instance banning someone would prevent me from seeing posts made in another instance.

[-] Chetzemoka@lemmy.world 8 points 1 year ago

Same, I didn't know until I saw this comment

[-] Stamets@lemmy.world 11 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago)

And that is why I made that enormous post.

If he wanted to just privately throw a fit about me, fine. He reports me to unrelated admins and complains about perfectly fine toots? Whatever. I can eat that. What infuriated me was him going "I don't like you so I am going to deny everyone on my platform seeing you."

Frankly it's just pathetic piss baby behavior. I'm sorry that his shittiness is having to contribute to you jumping around instances. Genuinely.

Jeez, that is...wow. A shitty mod can really wreck content visibility on the 'verse if they're feeling particularly shitty.

I just found out today and had been wondering why the community suddenly died. Hopefully Ten Forward had something green to drink.

Shore leave ended

[-] ummthatguy@lemmy.world 20 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago)

Month and change. Check the logs a little over a week ago for a post by Stamets explaining the situation. Welcome aboard!

[-] possiblylinux127@lemmy.zip 15 points 1 year ago

I personally don't care for the centralized nature of Lemmy.world so good bye unfortunately!

Agreed! If only there was a Fedi site dedicated to star...

Well, fuck.

TenForward: Where Every Vulcan Knows Your Name

4249 readers
617 users here now

/c/TenFoward: Your home-away-from-home for all things Star Trek!

Re-route power to the shields, emit a tachyon pulse through the deflector, and post all the nonsense you want. Within reason of course.

~ 1. No bigotry. This is a Star Trek community. Remember that diversity and coexistence are Star Trek values. Any post/comments that are racist, anti-LGBT, or generally "othering" of a group will result in removal/ban.

~ 2. Keep it civil. Disagreements will happen both on lore and preferences. That's okay! Just don't let it make you forget that the person you are talking to is also a person.

~ 3. Use spoiler tags. This applies to any episodes that have dropped within 3 months prior of your posting. After that it's free game.

~ 4. Keep it Trek related. This one is kind of a gimme but keep as on topic as possible.

~ 5. Keep posts to a limit. We all love Star Trek stuff but 3-4 posts in an hour is plenty enough.

~ 6. Try to not repost. Mistakes happen, we get it! But try to not repost anything from within the past 1-2 months.

~ 7. No General AI Art. Posts of simple AI art do not 'inspire jamaharon'

~ 8. No Political Upheaval. Political commentary is allowed, but please keep discussions civil. Read here for our community's expectations.

Fun will now commence.
