Did you know that you can follow Lemmy communities from Mastodon?

Lemmy is the Fediverse equivalent of Reddit.

If a community is located at
https://lemmy.ml/c/vegan

You can follow it at
@ vegan @ lemmy.ml (no spaces)

Example:
@vegan

The Fediverse is all about demolishing walled gardens. In our future you should be able to follow anyone from anywhere!

@vegan I was just amazed that by making this post on Mastodon, it showed up in the Lemmy community too! Hi vegan friends ๐Ÿ‘‹! I was Nume Macaroon on Reddit.

Yes! This is the coolness. And in theory Masto comments should show up on Lemmy threads (haven't tried yet)

Mastodon however kinda doesn't know how to handle Lemmy community traffic (yet). For one, it treats all posts and comments as boosts from the community "user". And they come as a big wall of posts, there's little to no threading done.

But for a start at demolishing the walled gardens, its pretty good. :)

@nm @vegan Is it possible to post in a Lemmy community from a Mastodon account ?

[-] curiousmind@qoto.org 1 points 1 year ago

@zeitverschreib @nm @vegan yeah but that's a comment not a post, right ?

@curiousmind

So you mean starting a new thread within an existing community?

Same principle, AFAIK.

@nm @vegan (wow that's a long @)

Is this something that communities need to opt-in to? I wasn't able to find a few groups to add, but I'm not sure if it's because they haven't opted in, or if some servers are just overloaded.

An online space for the vegans of Lemmy.

Rules and miscellaneous:

  1. We take for granted that if you engage in this community, you understand that veganism is about the animals. You either are vegan for the animals, or you are not (this is not to say that discussions about climate/environment/health are not allowed, of course)
  2. No omni/carnist apologists. This is not a place where to ask to be hand-holded into veganims. Omnis coddling/backpatting is not tolerated, nor are /r/DebateAVegan-like threads
  3. Use content warnings and NSFW tags for triggering content
  4. Circlejerking belongs to /c/vegancirclejerk
  5. All posts should abide by Lemmy's Code of Conduct
