I've enjoyed the influx of new users over the past week or so. Hope things continue to stay awesome around here even with lots of new faces. So far, it's been pretty great! Thank you all!

Happy cake day! My og reddit account before I began anew was created 2018 iirc. Right before the introduction of new reddit and gallery uploads, when there were still only three reddit awards. It's shocking how much the reddit experience had been downgraded so fast.

Day one of Lemmy for me as well. Feels decent with Mlem app on IOS. The navigation feels a bit complicated and gotta admit I don't understand what it means to be in lemmy.world or something else. Is this like a subreddit?

No, communities are like subreddits. What you're talking about is an instance. It's like a whole other Reddit that can interact with all the other Reddits. If one Reddit starts misbehaving, the party's not over because we can all just migrate to another one.

Welcome! Was with reddit since 2011. The feeling here is familiar to the early days but less advice animals lol.

I mass deleted all my comments and posts on reddit, hope this will be my new home.

longtime reddit user myself (since 2007ish?), trying to ditch reddit because I cant stand the official way to access it & with all of the impending changes it's good to leave early. today is day1 of lemmy for me. it looks like an interesting platform - especially the decentralized aspect of it.

happy cake day, @RadDevon

I'm hoping they can get an "exit strategy" in place so that communities and users can move off instances that might have to go away for one reason or another. Seems like key functionality on the fediverse. It's been a really cool community so far though. Reminds me of the way early Digg and Reddit felt, before they hit critical mass.

Yeah my reddit account will be 12 in a week or too, first day on lemmy liking it so far. Very optimistic about its future

I'm with you. I was shocked to see the little cake next to my name today. 😅
