Donald Trump asked a judge to postpone his trial to travel for his mother-in-law's funeral but failed to mention that he was scheduled to attend a campaign rally, too.

According to court documents reviewed by Business Insider, lawyers for Trump requested Friday that Judge Lewis Kaplan postpone the trial date for E. Jean Carroll's defamation suit because of the sudden death of Amalija Knavs, the mother of his wife Melania Trump, last week. The trial was set to begin this Wednesday.

According to his attorney, Alina Habba, Trump could not attend the trial in New York on Wednesday and Thursday because he would be traveling to Florida to attend the funeral. Per the letter, Trump's team asked that the trial be postponed until the following week.

Kaplan denied the request later on Friday, saying that while the court "offers its condolences" to the Trump family, the trial would continue as scheduled. Trump is not required to be at the trial, as Kaplan pointed out, but the former President had expressed interest in attending.

Trump is not required to be at the trial, as Kaplan pointed out

Then why the fuck did they ask to postpone the trial?

According to his attorney, Alina Habba

Oh, right.

Then why the fuck did they ask to postpone the trial?

So that maybe he can postpone consequences, until he gets elected.

Maybe, but I think more likely his lawyer is a fucking idiot as she has shown herself to be multiple times.

She’sa fucking idiot, who was trying to delay the trial with any dumb reason she could think of.

They’ve tried to delay all trials in all ways. They want them to back up and interrupt the next until the most important trials get pushed past the election.

A gold hued coffin isn't a pauper's grave. But burying someone as the only person in a cemetery to claim a tax credit is pretty awful too. Tax loophole aside, it's just sad to see someone buried where nobody else is. The person is dead and doesn't care, but still seems lonely.

It's a hole in the ground with a plaque suitable for the restroom at a fancy restaurant. World's greatest builder has had months and hasn't put up a mausoleum.

Like he cares about anyone but himself

His supporters know he has a rally that day and they’re rooting for him to be able to go under the pretense that it’s for a funeral. They think that would be awesome.

I mean, you have fallen for his Trumpaganda which is all they want. He doesnt have to be at the trial he just likes to victimize himself like all rightwingers...

[-] Treczoks@kbin.social 15 points 10 months ago

Well, again, he lied. What else to expect from him? Put him under oath for anything he says, and lock him up straight afterwards.

"Okay! That was always allowed!"

He is using the excuse he has to be present in court for his lesser charges to delay going to court for his larger charges. Most of the cases, especially the civil cases, don't require him to be present, only his legal staff. However, he has the right to be present at these cases, and so they are being filed out to him one by one. This has the side effect of him having to keep his rump in a seat in court, rather than campaigning. For added bonus, he can't keep his mouth shut and otherwise has no respect for the legal processes going on around him.

He should be thankful he's not held in contempt.

The people that say all these lawsuits are not politically motivated are really blind. They don't see the game being played.

My dude, you sound like a guy I knew. He was ripping off people on ebay. When he got caught and was sued, he just said that his prosecution was politically motivated, that the left wants to ruin his business
