auto-bans like that are so dumb because it could be I went into some not-allowed sub and said "wow, this sucks, everyone here is a deluded idiot" and then you get banned from some other sub for "participating" in the Bad one.
Which honestly is a bunch of horseshit, because what's it to them if you view/comment in another sub that the mods disagree with. I got banned from a number of subs for dropping into r/conservative and calling out people's shit, cause apparently acknowledging their existence a no-no. Good riddance lol
I got banned from some sub for calling out people on their shit in some post on the front page. I didn't even realize what sub I was commenting in. Didn't matter of course, and my appeal got ghosted.
I've had that for posting on subs like Conservative and PCM - then I realised I don't particularly want to participate in a sub that would ban me for calling out fascistic stupidity in an entirely unrelated space.
I've been banned before for having posted on the Red Pill subreddit about a decade ago. Best one was being banned from /r/justiceserved because I posted on the SubredditCancer subreddit before, and apparently they're a "hate sub"
That happened to me, I got a preemptive ban from a safe venting sub for calling out a bad faith post on a right wing sub. Dafuq.
And sometimes that happened ten years prior.
Also the real malicious actors already have those bots blocked so lot of good they do when Reddit locks access to profiles of blocked users, actually a pretty good feature though since it allows for people to combat this kind of abuse if they are proactive enough.
...for "participating" in the Bad one.
I think you might need to be more specific.
the_donald, conservative, fatpeoplehate...
I meant, the sub that banned you also qualifies under the title of "the bad one".
I mean from their perspective. They think they're castigating you for posting in the Bad Sub.
There's still a Reddit 196? I thought they shut down and moved here after the API changes
I was surprised when I saw they opened up again. And not even a link to here or anything. Does anyone know what's up with that?
they had a vote asking people (on reddit) if they wanted it to reopen or not. Lmao
hmm, I wonder if asking all the people that stayed behind after the exodus might skew the poll at all, lmao
Probably would've gotten the same result even if you asked the absent users. Lemmy 196 is nice and lively as far as Lemmy goes, but it's no match to reddit's userbase, and that one has clearly gotten tired of the protest after a while.
Links to Lemmy are basically banned on Reddit. As is closing a subreddit. They'll replace the admins and reopen.
Reddit admins reopen sub & kicked the mods then appointed new mods across many subs that didn't comply.
I got auto banned by some random sub I didn't even know about until it informed me of the ban for participating in another sub, after posting a comment on /r/conservative that also got me banned from that sub (on purpose and worth it). I had a laugh because that's some serious bullshit and because the sub didn't even have 100 subscribers.
That's just begging to get trolled by an alt account.
I always found it ironic because even if you're just poking the bear you still get banned by some random subreddit.
Is it just me or is reddit 196 is very wierd. Like everything is just strange hornyposts.
All the politics members left or moved here. Now they are just a bunch of teenagers and hornyposting.
Meanwhile here there are a decent amount of cropped porn and horny posts.
“It’s all hornyposts?”
Did I hear pasta?
This comment makes Lemmy 196 look whack :(
Pretty amazing you got the text right before it even happened!
It was r/teenagers btw
Wait there are bots like this??? Thats some peak braindead move from the mods.
They're very popular in the auth left spaces of reddit (and some that claim to not be auth left but that's a convo for another time)
You'll get banned for having a post history or comment history in the wrong subreddits the first time you try to make a post or comment
Funnily enough most of the right wing subreddits I tested (I was really bored) didn't have those bots firing off
Of course I did my testing last year, but I doubt it's changed
Funnily enough most of the right wing subreddits I tested (I was really bored) didn’t have those bots firing off
Nah, they'll just permaban you for disagreeing in any way.
COVID was the auth left everywhere, at least in social circles.
??
Big big oof.
In my two years experience on Reddit, the subs had lots of hidden rules usually based on the biases of the moderators. Still not sure why I got kicked off r/selfawarewolves and r/aboringdystopia.
And r/communisim booted mr for Atlanteanism which I got for understanding and explaining a NATO policy (I think).
I got banned from one lgbt+ subreddit because I posted stuff in one subreddit where I was sticking it to homophobes.
I always say to anyone still on Reddit, scope out the mod team before posting there and block any mods which are bots or that you think are chuds. They can still ban you but if they message you in Modmail while being blocked they have a risk of being suspended for harassment.
Also if you want to give it a second chance Tor works wonders against Reddit's ban evasion systems, don't use the same Email with them as you did before though, it'll make it easy for them to pick up on it automatically.
