I really want to know why this matters in the slightest for this particular movie. Why are you so invested? Is your nearsighted toddler going to have a public meltdown because they can't see the movie in 3D like the other kids?

It's synonymous with cinemas. Might be an Aussie/British English thing.

They might've been making a joke that since it's an aussie movie rather than an american one, it would be cinemas, whereas "movie theaters" is more of an american thing.
