Hi, can someone please tell me where I can legally get an euthanasia appointment for having diagnosed ADHD and undiagnosed autism?

I know it's better to get support than to end my life but there is no support anywhere. I have tried to get support in my home country Australia but there's no accommodations for somebody like me, and I have faced a lot of violence from the justice system there and I am scared to return.

My ADHD/ autism has ruined my life. I'm living off savings overseas and am trying really hard to find a job but it's not possible, I'm too disabled. I will keep trying until I run out of money. But after that I don't know what I will do. I don't want to die but I don't think there's any other choice. But I don't want to have to kill myself on my own when the time comes. Please, I really want the chance to die with dignity if I do not have the means to support myself anymore. I need to plan in advance to know how much money I need for getting euthanasia.

Please someone can you tell me what the steps are? I really have tried to find support but there isn't any that I can find to support myself so I don't have a choice and I really don't want to have to kill myself on my own.

I'm not a doctor, but I don't think you'll have much luck finding one to help you with that. The legality behind physician-assisted suicide will definitely vary by country, but I'm pretty sure no doctor will go through with it over a mental health concern. Maybe if you had like a traumatic brain injury that made you unable to care for yourself, but that's technically a physical health issue

I don’t want to die but I don’t think there’s any other choice

This statement is reason enough to prevent a doctor from killing you. If you don't want to die, they won't make it happen - consent is super important for something that grave. Suicidality is also very often a temporary thing, some day you might change your mind. There's a reason that euthanasia is used almost exclusively for the terminally ill.

I'm sorry you're struggling. The specter of homelessness hangs over my head too, and I often think I'd rather be dead than have to deal with that. But every time I've almost died I really didn't want it to happen.

You probably should still talk to a doctor about this. If you'd rather kill yourself than live without support then that should help illustrate the severity of your disability. Not knowing what country you're currently in, I can't tell you what support is available to you - but there's almost certainly something that can be done to help you.

Thank you but if I had to choose, I rather die than be homeless. There's nothing wrong with homeless people and lots of them are great people but I know if I was homeless I'd really suffer from overwhelm and likely open myself up to rape/ torture so I prefer to die. Is that enough reason for a doctor to allow euthanasia? Because otherwise I will have to do it myself and that's really scary.

In my home country, Australia, I've been to non-profit organisations to ask for help with admin work you need to do to be able to receive government money, which I really struggle with to the point I want to commit suicide. But after helping me once they said they could not help me again, and can only help me find housing. But I was already living in my car at that point and didn't need them to help me with that.

Then after a suicide attempt in Australia, the next day, I was arrested based on false accusations someone else made but even though they weren't true, I still had to go to court etc and almost died in the process because it was so overwhelming.

So no, unfortunately there is no such thing as support in my home country, my only option is to die when I run out of money unless I want to go through more torture.

I've been there. It's a terrible place. The one thing that got me through it was knowing how much it would hurt everyone else around me.

I recently attended a funeral for someone who couldn't take it anymore. Their mother crying was the worst sound you could think of.

They thought they were alone, had no help, but the funeral room was overfull.

Don't make the same mistake. People want and need you here. It's 2am, so i won't reply until tomorrow, but know that this hard time, like all hard times, eventually passes. And even though you can never see it, there is a bright future ahead that you don't want to miss out on. You just need to hang on in any way you can until you get there.

I'm in nz BTW so just over the ditch from you

Yea I know there are people that will probably miss me but I think eventually they will move on. It will probably hit my parents hardest but whether or not they intended it, they have only done things that have hurt me and they are part of the reason why I have grown up with suicidal ideation. It was really bad when I was stuck with them when I was little. It got better when I went to uni but now that I've gotten older, I think burnout has hit me really hard. I don't feel comfortable talking to my parents at all not even asking them for money. They've also used money to try and blackmail me in the past so that's a big no. And there's no way I can be that piece of shit that asks friends for money especially if there's no way I can return the money since I can't work.

I've had feelings like this before. It's not easy to deal with those.

I'll grant you the respect of not telling you what to do or that "YoU HaVe sO mUcH tO LiVe FoR!" Because I don't know your situation and it always pissed me off when complete strangers were convinced they knew exactly how to solve ALL of my problems.

I realized I was ADHD when I was about 40. I always thought that was kids who couldn't sit still, so I never thought it was me. Turns out there is an inattentive type that breaks all the stereotypes and is usually just misinterpreted as "smart, but lazy".

It's impossible for other's to understand how hard it can be to motivate yourself, and basic tasks become insurmountable obstacles. But also, we're fickle as hell, so, in a day or two, things may but feel as impossible as they do now. Find solace for today, try to keep yourself distracted, and see what tomorrow brings.

Thank you, I keep doing that, but everytime it comes to trying to find work or doing small admin tasks at immigration office etc, I struggle really badly. But my money will not last me forever, I will run out maybe in a few months... Depending on how I spent it. Right now, things are bearable even if everytime I find work or do admin I want to die, but I still have the money to do things that make it a bit better. Once I run out of money, I won't have a choice anymore, therefore I need to plan in advance. Unfortunately, death is my only option if I can't sustain myself.

Are there many "gig work" options where you are? Things like driving for Uber or Delivering groceries for Spark?

Those are great for people that can't tolerate the 9-5, because they'll take most anyone, and you work on your own schedule. If you aren't feeling it one day, just don't turn on the app. Maybe you function better in the evening, you can pick your own hours instead of waking up to an alarm. If you're running low on cash, knock out a few deliveries and make some money.

I don't have my own vehicle. I also really struggle with noise of traffic/ construction etc. So I've gone somewhere quiet now to try and find work online. But I struggle so badly with trying to sit down and set up my portfolio/ doing my resume, I don't think it's possible. Last year, when I met a guy and he gave me a one day job, I was able to get straight into it and hyper focus on it, but it's near impossible for me to sit down to do the things I need to do to get a job- ie apply for work, write cover letters etc.

If I were able to, it would be easier to find a cleaning/ hospitality job of some sort but even though I've worked in that field in the past, im so burnout now that this kind of work would overwhelm me too much right now.

[-] Rhynoplaz@lemmy.world 3 points 4 days ago

I have a habit of working somewhere for about two years and what originally starts as a fun new thing (well, about as fun as work can be) slowly turns into a torturous slog, and I start searching for yet another new job.

I'm never much further ahead than entry level positions, but I have learned a lot about a variety of industries. I treasure that more than titles and prestige, but sadly, the rest of the world doesn't feel the same way.

[-] Littlesad@lemmy.world 5 points 4 days ago

Also just to say, please don't send me links to help with suicidal thoughts, I have been to therapy while I could still afford it but it does not solve the problem of not being able to work. I know lots of people are homeless but I don't think I could do it myself. I am a woman and conventionally attractive and hence will very likely get raped etc if I was homeless, so I prefer to qualify for euthanasia thanks.

[-] Littlesad@lemmy.world 4 points 4 days ago

If you haven't been in this situation before that's really great. But right now I have no options for work and having no way to support myself for me personally means life will become too difficult and overwhelming. If you don't have anything helpful to comment, you don't have to say anything.

[-] GrackleBirb@lemmy.ca 3 points 4 days ago

You need to be on medication and receiving psychiatric care. You don’t qualify for euthanasia in any country where it is legal as your condition is not terminal nor have you exhausted all medical options.

[-] Littlesad@lemmy.world 1 points 4 days ago

Yea not possible I don't have the money for medication or psychiatric care :/

[-] GrackleBirb@lemmy.ca 1 points 4 days ago* (last edited 4 days ago)

I lived in Australia for years. There are many publicallu publicly available programs and access to a psychiatrist is covered by Medicare. Hospitals also will provide crisis support and this is covered by bulk billing.

You will have to put in the work and get medicated. The fact that you’re not taking any medication is already a red flag. You need to commit to treatment and follow the system. No country is going to give you free money and housing without the obligation to work for AuADHD not even Sweden or Denmark.

I'm glad the Australian system has worked for you. It hasn't for me. I have gone through the suicidal care the system provides. I have voluntarily gone to hospital - guess what it didn't work , I felt like committing suicide more but had to hide it so I would be let out. Somebody has called help for me from the police before, even after I told them that going with them to hosptial will make the suicidal thoughts worse, they forced me to go to hospital. The next day they did a welfare check and ended up arresting me based on false claims of domestic violence. The "domestic violence" situation in question was a different time when I tried to kill myself and they framed it as I was trying to harm them. But you know what? The justice system didn't help me because it was a 2 against one situation. It's complicated, but the person accusing me was likely jealous of me and the person who backed them up was their boyfriend. I had no other witnesses around to prove my story and hence I had nothing to defend myself with. The pro bono lawyer I received refused to help me unless I pleaded guilty because trying to prove that I was innocent would take too much of their time. So no, the system didn't work for me but I'm glad it worked for you.

[-] GrackleBirb@lemmy.ca 3 points 4 days ago

Until you are properly medicated you should not be posting about euthanasia. You keep dodging the medication and psychiatric care part. That’s essential.

Having been at mental rock bottom myself I'll spare you the uplifting words. You won't feel them. I got out of that shit using logic and problem solving skills and a ton of help.

I don't think from what you wrote that you really have tried all available resources and possibilities to solve your problems.

There is usually help available from charities and the like to support you with applying for social security benefits and aid. Those people know that stuff well. Have you applied for disability? Mental counts. There is lots of stuff you can do that you don't know about.

Don't be too proud to get help from anyone you know. Family, friends etc. Don't be overly dramatic but also don't hide your problems.

I think before you consider ending your life you might as well try all the other options. Because that option is rather irreversible. You don't see a way out right now. But the final option doesn't go away. You say you think you'll end up homeless. Now you aren't. So try a few things now while it isn't too late.

And while depressed you never think anything works. The depressed emotional state makes you very much not objective. You twist everything into a bad light. Keep trying to find solutions and seeking help. Might still work. Did for me. I didn't believe it would but I tried anyway.

I have tried, I can't find a charity that will help me because this isn't something that is written in their agenda. Sadly there is no existing charity that helps ADHD/ autistic people with my problems. I have gone to doctors but they don't seem me to be disabled enough. I have also talked to friends who are actually on disability support in Australia and the support is so limited, there's really not much point in trying. There's a lot of hoops to jump through to qualify, and I'm better off using that energy to find work.

You don't know anything about my family situation. I can't ask money from them. Nor can I ask my friends for money because I'm not going to stoop that low. My friends have already tried to help me as much as they can. I've lost friends because I've been too much. Some came to help me when I didn't ask for it and because it was too much for them, they ghosted me. My friends are not mental health professionals or social workers. I can't put the burden of helping a disabled person like myself on them. But you know what mental health professionals and social workers have not been trained on how to deal with people like me either. So yea there has been no options for me.

If the system has worked for you and helped you when you were at your lowest that's great but it hasn't worked for me

I saw a video of a guy from the US who moved to Spain to escape gang life. He spent his while life doing side hustles and whatever. So he had developed PTSD from years of bad situations and he was basically homeless. He moved to Uruguay and they let him stay. They gave him a place to live and he has services. I think the support you are looking for could be in some other non-English country. US, UK, Canada, Australia, are pretty much disasters.

[-] Littlesad@lemmy.world 2 points 4 days ago

Hmm have you got a link to the video? It would be nice if I can ask this guy how he did it. I really want to move to somewhere like Norway because I heard the Nordic countries have better work -life balance, gender equality and disability support systems. But after chatting to a friend from there today, I think it's too risky, I think I might run out of money there before I can find a job/ become a citizen who could get support.

I don't trust the Adventure Freaksss guy, but he interviews people and I find that valuable.

I had never heard of workaway until I saw Adventure Freaksss interview with this dude.

[-] Littlesad@lemmy.world 1 points 4 days ago

Nope sadly not :/ that's why I'm trying to find work that doesn't feel like work. While I could tolerate certain jobs for a period of time in the past... It's just not possible for me anymore now. And as long as I'm given a job that I can do well in, I know I'll be able to hyper focus on it... It's just the job hunting part that I can't do. But if I can't do the job hunting.. I can't find a job.
