I am so sorry for your loss.

V was gone far far too soon. I miss her so much. I basically laid in bed all day missing her. The way she used to lay on my chest and suck on her tail. She had the most expressive eyes, and the little bit of white on her brow made her look constantly concerned. Like her namesake she burned bright and is a legend. Burying two cats in less than 6 months has left me feeling hallow. Now I have two ghosts glimpsed in the corner of my eye as I walk into a room, and two little crosses behind a house I'm leaving soon.

When I die

Give what’s left of me away

To children

And old men that wait to die.

And if you need to cry,

Cry for your brother

Walking the street beside you.

And when you need me,

Put your arms

Around anyone

And give them

What you need to give to me.

I want to leave you something,

Something better

Than words

Or sounds.

Look for me

In the people I’ve known

Or loved,

And if you cannot give me away,

At least let me live on in your eyes

And not your mind.

You can love me most

By letting

Hands touch hands,

By letting bodies touch bodies,

And by letting go

Of children

That need to be free.

Love doesn’t die,

People do.

So, when all that’s left of me

Is love,

Give me away.

Sorry about your Kitty.

I don't know you but I know what you're feeling right now. I lost my Orange Boy just a few weeks ago and even this weekend I still felt it. I wish I could share more comfort with you, fellow person. I can share this quote by Kate Braestrup that comforts me in times of loss:

Grief is just love squaring up to its oldest mortal enemy. After all these mortal human years, love is up to the challenge..

As bad as that feeling is right now, it means V mattered and was loved.

Sorry to hear that I am sure she had a wonderful life with you

For those who wish to know.

Tap for spoilerThe Vet initially thought she had been hit by a car. She was covered in bruises and coughing up blood. After finding out she was an inside cat they deduced that she probably chewed on a wire and was electrocuted.

[-] islandcoda42@lemmy.zip 3 points 14 hours ago

Im so sorry. This is a fear I’ve had for a while now. You can’t hide every cord, ya just hope they don’t chew on them. Rest in peace to your beautiful kitty💕🌈❤️💕

That is terrible! But it is not your fault.
Accidents happen.

My second cat was hit by a car in the night, after i shooed him away from me because i wanted to sleep and he wanted to play. It took a while to stop thinking that if only i had played with him a bit, he would not have gone out, and get hit by a car.

But that is not how the world works. Accidents happen. you cannot blame yourself and definitely cannot make the world perfectly safe.

❤️

Oh I am so sorry for both of you. It must've been terrible to find her so terribly injured, and to make the desperate run to the vet, and then she couldn't be saved. At least they could make her passing less painful. Some cats are just so determined to do dangerous things, especially chewing/eating things they shouldn't, that there's no stopping them. Sounds like she had a fierce independent spirit in her little body. Now it's gone, but you'll see flashes of it out in the world, and feel its warmth deep in your heart. Take your time to recover. But also know that if another cat comes into the empty place in your life, her claim on you will be undiminished.

Oh my gosh I’m so so so sorry. :( Sue looked like such a fun and loving kitty

Ooph, that's hard to hear

Feel hugged, that's a tough one

Not sure, what else I can say, because there isn't much.
I'm just really sorry for you

[-] mavu@discuss.tchncs.de 11 points 1 day ago

I'm so sorry for your loss.

she will always be alive in your heart and memory, don't forget that.

and remember that there are many cats that need help and a home, maybe some day in the future, you can help one.

[-] xkbx@startrek.website 42 points 1 day ago

Grieve. Feel it. That’s love. It hurts and it’s heavy, but that’s just the cost of them moving from a physical reality to one of memory and emotion. Don’t shut it out - mitigate it if you have to, bit by bit. But grief, to me, has never been about those you love leaving, that’s just them knocking at your heart’s door, asking to be let in.

[-] Wildmimic@anarchist.nexus 19 points 1 day ago

I'm so sorry for you.

Give yourself a while to grieve, and maybe think about getting another cat to care for - that is the only thing that was able to make me think less about the loss of a beloved companion and keep me in the present where there is someone who needs your attention and affection.

[-] Catoblepas 26 points 1 day ago

I’m so sorry, that’s heartbreaking. Cats are experts at getting into and doing things they shouldn’t, even when you take steps to keep them safe. Remember that she spent her time with you loved.

[-] Carl@anarchist.nexus 4 points 19 hours ago

Yeah, even the smartest cats are only about as smart is a 3 year old. And anyone who has ever watched a 3 year old knows that they’re constantly attempting to kill themselves. The issue is that cats have the physical capacity to get into way more dangerous scenarios, because they can easily jump, climb, and squeeze into places that a 3 year old wouldn’t be able to. So even if you have toddler-proofed your house, (which is a massive task by itself) there are still plenty of things that a cat can get into.

[-] DataCrime@lemmy.dbzer0.com 11 points 1 day ago

Apparently there’s words for a flock of cats. But personally, I call my current and future cat family, my continuity of cats.

This is the way.

[-] LowtierComputer@lemmy.world 24 points 1 day ago

I'm very sorry. Shit like this happens and there's often nothing you can do.
