It's not hypocracy. They know time off is great. They know medical care is great. They know it's great to be housed and fed and not worried about a single paycheck being late ruining your entire life. Their philosophy is not that these things are unnecessary.

Their philosophy is that there are people who deserve these nice things, namely them and people like them, and that other people deserve to suffer. And that every nice thing they get that other people don't, further separates them from the people they don't like.

Some people who believe these things may actually truly believe that the carrot of a better life ahead if you, and the sticks of poverty behind you, might motivate you to innovate or improve yourself in some way. Some of them might believe that the suffering is important, because without it no one would ever do anything.

But I think a lot of them don't even think that. They just like having things other people want.

I think most of them believe those things are good, and then believe they have earned them without ever being able to recognize the efforts of those around them. Thus they believe they have put in effort and deserve it. Those around them "may not have put in the effort" because they didn't care, or were to busy to pay attention. It's foolish for us to believe so many believe others deserve to be punished for failing while putting in the same work; when really they explain it to themselves as they made the stakes.

That is the devide that allows John and Jane nobody to believe that people on the left are radical extremists... Because people are saying their philosophy is others deserve to suffer.

Makes it an easy "do I believe others should suffer, no; those people must be trying to manipulate me"

If rights, citizenship and even personhood are universal then the ownership class and political class are morally obligated to share wealth evenly.

The ownership class is very comfortable in its greed. Sharing, compassion and fair play take effort, and its cheaper for them to sponsor political parties that affirm their privilege is right and proper.

Hence when there's a general call for change, the far-right movements get a lot of material support (or even materiel support) from the capitalists.

And left-wing and centrist movements are pressured (enticed or threatened)to shift to the right.

The American dream says all men are created equal.

But this idea is not the human default. Most countries in the world, in fact most societies that have ever existed, have kept wide gaps between the poor and the wealthy. Those countries function in large part because not all men are equal: some are told they exist to serve others. A few have wealth because they are standing on the backs of the less fortunate majority. A lot of people have assumed there's no other way.

But the American dream is just an experiment. Can we hold it? Can we continue to educate ourselves and vote in such a way, as a whole, that allows us to keep a very very strong middle class, shun any king, and truly allow equal opportunity for all?

My friends, my hope is at a low point.

Isn't taking a government salary when you're dead fraud?

Anger is a poison that must be turned into compassion. That post would be more helpful if it said, "You are not concerned enough."
