Is this the person whose big "scandal" was being photographed at a club?

[-] Saapas@piefed.zip 66 points 4 weeks ago

I think that was the one where she was unreachable by the government (this was still the covid times, 2021) which is a no-no and was seen as dancing with/maybe kissing another man (a celebrity) while her husband was at home with their daughter. (They separated some time after) That soured a lot of people's view on her. Of course her being a young woman was further incrimination to many of her opponents.

Another similar scandal was the house party video where she was allegedly doing coke. I don't think anything was proven there. Someone on the video was yelling "powder gang" which is weird but not exactly solid evidence, but it became a huge meme and just solidified her reputation as a "party girl", something beneath the position of a PM.

I think those were the bigger non-politics scandals.

I wish my leader were only an adulterer and cocaine user.

[-] jaybone@lemmy.zip 50 points 4 weeks ago

At least her extramarital affairs are with adults.

[-] Saapas@piefed.zip 12 points 4 weeks ago* (last edited 4 weeks ago)

We have a different sort of bar here I suppose hah. Then again, she was judged extra hard for being a young woman in that position.

But it also genuinely wasn't appropriate behaviour (to be videotaped doing) for a PM.

[-] greenbit@lemmy.zip 12 points 4 weeks ago

Nah the appropriateness or lack of it was invented. Worst she's done is join the Tony Blair Institute, just another capitalist

[-] Saapas@piefed.zip 4 points 4 weeks ago* (last edited 4 weeks ago)

I don't know what you mean by invented. A lot of people thought partying drunk on video wasn't really appropriate behaviour for the PM. People don't mind (at least as much) if it happens behind closed doors, but Marin unfortunately had shitty enough friends that they posted that stuff online. That sort of stuff eroded a lot of respect for her and it was already an uphill battle since she was a young woman, she had to fight double as hard as a middle aged man in her position would've had to.

I didn't really mind her partying and stuff, but it was just a bad look. Her fooling the voters later on was much worse imo than just being drunk on camera. That later thing really soured me on her.

It depends on the culture I guess. It would be less of a problem in France (source : am French).

[-] manuremy@sopuli.xyz 12 points 4 weeks ago* (last edited 4 weeks ago)

"powder gang"

I would like to add that it's very likely they were not yelling this, "jauhojengi", at all but "jallujengi" which would be about drinking Jaloviina, Finnish cut brandy. Link to a wikipedia page. I fucking love Jallu and will always spread the Gospel of Jaloviina.

[-] Saapas@piefed.zip 4 points 4 weeks ago

I don't know about likely, most heard "jauhojengi" and at the time I listened to it a bunch too and couldn't hear "jallujengi" myself. And I was her supporter so I had a reason to hear it that way hah

[-] manuremy@sopuli.xyz 4 points 4 weeks ago

I couldn't hear the "jauho" at all, did a blind hearing once the videos came out. Blue dress, gold dress I guess. :D

[-] Th3D3k0y@lemmy.world 10 points 4 weeks ago

I bet she probably even had an alcoholic beverage too!

[-] DarkFuture@lemmy.world 21 points 3 weeks ago

My entire working life (multiple decades) it's been a pretty common thing to hear co-workers say some variation of

"I feel like my life is on fast forward"

Because they aren't absorbing their own lives because they spend most of it away from the things that matter, solving problems for other people, in order to benefit a small percentage of people more than they benefit from their own labor.

Everyone has different beliefs. I don't believe we're going anywhere after this. This is it. One shot. One blip in a vast universe, then nothing.

That makes me very tired of this bullshit.

I understand the value of work. I understand we wouldn't have roads or homes or grocery stores without it. But I've always advocated for exactly what's being advocated for here. 4 days. 6 hours a piece. 4 days is still the majority of your week and 6 hours is perfect because studies show productivity tanks after that anyways and those extra 2 hours means actually having dinner with your family or helping them with homework, or mowing the lawn, or whatever.

It's a solid balance and we should be demanding it, not asking for it.

[-] WorldsDumbestMan@lemmy.today 20 points 4 weeks ago

So uh...what is the citizenship application process? Finland is worth dying for rn.

[-] markz@suppo.fi 26 points 4 weeks ago

Former pm, this wouldn't actually happen.

[-] Railcar8095@lemmy.world 16 points 3 weeks ago

Why is it that the right ideas only happen before or after holding useful positions?

That's cool but, what is she doing as a former politician to further this goal?

[-] gdog05@lemmy.world 41 points 4 weeks ago* (last edited 4 weeks ago)

Using the power of celebrity which is probably the most useful thing to do in that situation.

[-] Saapas@piefed.zip 7 points 4 weeks ago

It would've been useful to stay to lead the social democrats but she bailed on that right after the elections. A lot of people voted for her, leaving them feel like they've been cheated

[-] FrowingFostek@lemmy.world 3 points 4 weeks ago

Im not familiar with the governmental structure there.

Is there legislation or a reform that she's pursuing?

Or is this like a general statement on spending more time with family?

Im sorry but how will this increase shareholder value? hmm? Will anybody think of the shareholders?

[-] captainlezbian@lemmy.world 9 points 3 weeks ago

Every controversy with that woman continues to be basically this meme.

[-] Fmstrat@lemmy.world 9 points 4 weeks ago

Curious question, did she push for this when she was PM?

She made a supportive claim in a party meeting, didn't do action about it. Nothing bullshit unless the story is deeper behind public eyes

https://yle.fi/a/74-20119756

For this topic, native or primary sources are better

Also we could deep dive on the "during PM" slice. she said she supports it in Aug 2019, Cabinet forms in December. Believe me (or not) I tried to stay sharp if the topic gains any official action during the time

Edit: this I can't get a link to because twitter but apparently: Finnish Government, using the handle @FinGovernment. January 7, 2020:

"In the Finnish Government´s program there is no mention about 4-day week. Issue is not on the Finnish Government's agenda. PM @marinsanna envisioned idea briefly in a panel discussion last August while she was the Minister of Transport, and there hasn't been any recent activity."

They had to officially declare this because the urban legend was spreading.

After leaving office? Sure, she's said she still supports the idea. Hope this helps

[-] sad_detective_man@sopuli.xyz 7 points 4 weeks ago

Not the reddit yellow text posts, I beg thee

[-] Th3D3k0y@lemmy.world 9 points 4 weeks ago

I will never not find it funny that most of us are on Lemmy because we agree that Reddit is a cesspool, yet a very goodly portion of our content it just Reddit reposted to Lemmy.

[-] sad_detective_man@sopuli.xyz 5 points 4 weeks ago* (last edited 4 weeks ago)

I brought a meme folder with me when I migrated that I slowly repost from so on a level I get it but stuff like this is just straight from a content farm. I get that maybe it's good for motivating normies to not start down the bro podcast pipeline or something but this has got to be the meme equivalent of pregnant spiderman/elsa videos. Why bring it here?

[-] PromKingJosh@tarte.nuage-libre.fr 3 points 4 weeks ago* (last edited 4 weeks ago)

Does it even fit the me_irl theme too?

While we're at it, let's also add "What is your resppnse to her?" at the end of the title to boost engangement for the shareholders

[-] AA5B@lemmy.world 7 points 3 weeks ago

Yeah right, and how many trillionaires does Finland have? How can I ever become a trillionaire if we waste money on things like work-life balance? Get that woke dei stuff out of here.

/s since you can never be sure

[-] toynbee@piefed.social 2 points 4 weeks ago

I used to work a job that alternated between 3x12 and 4x12 work weeks. They also prorated your first paycheck to accommodate that.

That works out to 84 hours every two weeks. I don't recall how that was addressed.

That job turned out to kinda suck and the company no longer exists, but I always appreciated consistently having either three or four days off in a row.

[-] TheReturnOfPEB@reddthat.com 3 points 4 weeks ago

as a punishment or what ?

[-] i_am_hiding@aussie.zone 2 points 4 weeks ago

I literally want the opposite of this. I don't want to go to work six days a week for six hours, that just ruins and extra day of the week.

As it is, I go to work 5 days a week for 8 hours. I have 5 ruined days and 2 useful ones.

I would like to be able to work four days a week for ten hours. Then I have gained a whole day a week! And I usually work a bit of overtime anyway, what difference does it make if I'm going home at 5 like most people instead of going home at 3?

[-] Sharkticon@lemmy.zip 16 points 4 weeks ago

Maybe literally read more carefully since she is say 4 days at 6 hours. Not 6 days.
