Switch, GBA-SP, and the Sega Dreamcast

The Switch is both versatile and works very well. The previous two generations of Nintendo consoles struggled with their motion controllers but the Switch cracked it. It's got a great library, including indies and emulation of older console libraries, and is a good size for on-the-go use.

The GBA has a great library but the SP redesign perfected the form factor. I still have and use mine.

The Dreamcast was so adventurous and bold, from the save cards having their own screens and going in the controllers to its ambitious library. I know it suffered from cost and timing but the console itself was a treasure.

Dreamcast, n64, and either ps1/ps2. Genesis is up there. Theres just magic in those games/systems. I Honorable mention are Xbox/360, the last era of good gaming.

Portable, I'd say PSP and advance sp.

  1. Fat PS3 60GB

  2. OG Xbox

  3. PSP

I chose the original model PS3 because of the HDMI output for PS1/PS2 titles. Three generations of titles. We'll never see another library like that.

The OG Xbox because of it's superior ports of PS2 games, and Duke controller (I've got big hands). It was the last dying breath of mainstream console games that shipped complete. No cut content shipped as DLC. No Day 1 patches.

Lastly PSP because of it's weird inbetween spot of PS1/PS2 graphics on the go. It let developers do some really cool almost-console like 3D games while still having a decent battery life. Amazing library of interesting titles to boot. A shame about the single analog stick. I still have nightmares about using the claw.

  • DS Lite

  • PS2

  • Steam Deck

Switch is a strong contender as well but the shoulder buttons are depressingly flimsy and cause anxiety :/

1 Megadrive (aka Genesis)
2 PS4
3 Wii

Have also had a PS1 and 2, and really liked them as well, but these 3 are my top picks

[-] IWW4@lemmy.zip 1 points 2 weeks ago

PC

PS2

PS4/PS5

I have never been a big console guy. It was really The Last of Us that made me get a PS4. I upgraded to the 5 later.

The only reason i got a PS2 is I was at a friend’s house and his kid was playing a game called Front Mission Four. I played it for about 30 minutes and was completely hooked.

On the drive home from his house and I went and bought the platform and the game and still have both to this day.

Off the top of my head, FFVI, SoulBlazer (SoulBlader in some regions), and Zelda: a Link to the Past.

Edit: I see I swapped words in the title in my head.

In that case: SNES, NES, Sega Genesis (or whatever it was called in your region).
