These guys are all having their brains cooked in group chats
Wow.
Right, so this guy officially is fair game for Nazi-punching.
Now I'm wondering which software on my PC uses Ruby on Rails so I can reconsider.
It's funny because I've worked with ruby on rails my entire career and can barely see how he built the tool that such an open and inclusive community formed around. He was always an outlier in that setting and even more so now. My understanding is that he's not very involved with the project and even if he was it would be pointless to boycott it since he doesn't gain anything from it anymore. Hey and Basecamp on the other hand, yeah, neither are seeing a penny from me.
It's a web framework. Directly, probably none. However there may well be plenty of sites/web servers using it.
What a dumbass. Doubling and tripling and quadrupling down and knowing literally nothing about what he's talking about.
First of all, the US won't beat China because they deindustrialized and China is the factory of the world. This won't change short of a nuclear holocaust.
Second of all, most environmentalists want investment in greener energy so that we don't destroy the world if we can avoid that. China already makes cheap renewables, and it will only get cheaper still. Europe's energy crisis is tied to importing expensive US energy and not even trying to go renewable so they break off that dependency.
Third, as the US makes the world economy implode with a new stupid war the price of energy will only keep going up and up, so countries that heavily rely on importing energy will suffer a lot. You can't techbro your way out of this, and this should be obvious, but no amount of ethnic cleansing can reindustrialize an economy. Not only is his whole ideology appalling for anyone with a modicum of empathy, it's also not grounded in reality. But no, I'm sure if we all just believe in capitalism and fascism hard enough things will magically get better! Come on guys, the US is doing that and it's TOTALLY not just a bubble!!!!
I love how all these people who talk about immigration and remigration never talk about Western countries and Israel bombing middle east to oblivion. Sure buddy it is 100% sensible to ask someone to go back to a country with no infrastructure, healthcare or education left thanks to your country and its allies.
Absolutely no surprise that the “Rails Is Omakase” guy is a moron.
it's official, Ruby is off the rails
What is it about tech folks being magnetically attracted to right-wing ideologies?
With people like him I'd say it's about a combination of being contrarían in general, being surrounded by yes men, and looking up to rich assholes.
More generally, we can all fall for reactionary crap if we don't see it for what it is and if it speaks to some grievance we have. We need to be smarter and look at historical patterns, the fascists never helped any workers, they just got countless people killed, and letting them rise to power eventually leads to someone, either you or someone you care about, being next.
Negative bias. We notice these anomalies more than we notice the ones that don't disappoint their mothers.
Nobody even knows who Arthur David Olsen is.
Survivorship Bias
Oh shoot, has anyone seen him and Tim McIlrath in the same room before??

What if we just cleansed it of nazis?
Yes, let's do that. Where should we send them?
The grave
They don't deserve one, put them in a field and call the crows
Reeducation centers ideally located in immigrant ghettos so they can correct the wrong of forcing refugees into under-served areas with no industry or legal way to improve one's situation their politics brought about.
And as those ghettos would contain zero immigrants but only the finest of fine white people, there would be absolutely zero crime and other problems. Either that or the whole premise is completely wrong, but I wouldn't even think of that.
I don't see where you're going with this, reeducation required eventual reintegration, making these people see and correct the systemic injustice they created as part of this seems both practical and moral.
I'm going to them realizing that they are the problem and not everybody else. They think all the problems come from migrants. Let's remove that variable and check if they are right. Not by removing the migrants, but by removing them from society.
Its funny how commies like you would kill for words and still somehow think they have moral grounds
Your comment confuses me, but I bet I'm still less confused than you are.
The person suggesting reeducation and reintegration is someone else, if that's who you meant to respond to
Wasn’t familiar with this guy other than through trying Omarchy over one weekend, so I went down the rabbit hole.
Apparently this is something he is fairly well known for:
(from his Wikipedia entry)
“In 2025, Hansson published a blog post expressing support for far-right British activist Tommy Robinson and the 2025 British anti-immigration protests.”
Bold strategy alienating his user base and any supporters still around, let's see if it pays off for him.
Not only Rails but also Hey.com which he created somehow. He will definitely lose customers.
a) Remigration has nothing to do with ethnicity and is not ethnic cleansing - the title is incorrect.
b) He's right on all three accounts.
He uses the word "remigration" right after explaining quite clearly that ethnicity is exactly what he is talking about.
It doesn't help that it has been identified as a term for ethnic cleansing since 2019.
And let's put our thinking caps on for like 1 second. How exactly do you expect unilaterally imposed "remigration" to actually happen? You ask millions of people nicely to uproot their lives and they just do it?

What are you referring to? I see several references to culture, none to ethnicity.

See the disclaimer in the hatnote >>
This article is about the political promotion of coerced or forced deportation for the purpose of ethnic cleansing. For the more general social science concept that is sometimes called "remigration", see Return migration.
and the controversy on the [talk page].
The article you are looking for is this one.

You're right that it's a difficult problem to solve, and it depends on the local circumstances. Ideally it doesn't have to be done unilaterally but rather is done cooperatively. Where I live (Sweden) a very significant group with many that have had trouble integrating are Syrian nationals (100's of thousands) who were granted asylum as refugees. As the situation is now stabilizing there, it makes a lot of sense to support their return to their homes both financially and otherwise. Personally I'd imagine a lot of people don't want to live in a foreign country if they don't have to and would rather be in their home country where their own cultural peers are the majority.
Ultimately a win-win, they get to go home and the load on our overburdened societal systems is reduced (housing, welfare, healthcare etc.).
That is the hope of course. If all voluntary measures fail and someone no longer has the right to residence (through lawfully attained citizenship for instance) then deportation becomes the only option.
Highly politically active man who has every alt-right opinion in the book and is very familiar with the use and abuse of subtext just happens to use the conspicuous loaded word remigration when talking about the necessity of removing millions of people from Europe. I'm not buying it.

Europe is not keeping refugees hostage. European countries have had programs to promote and assist emigration of certain groups for well over a decade. If it was truly win-win nobody would need to call it a sacred cow that needed to be killed.

Maybe for some? Certainly not the case in my country. A decade ago everything that wasn't an open-door policy for refugees was called racist far-right extremism. We had a center-right politician who on national television unironically said that taking in 40 million immigrants (into our country of at the time 9.5 million) was feasible.
the only true remigration would be to repatriate every single human of every race to Botswana and Ethiopia.
Remigration has nothing to do with ethnicity and is not ethnic cleansing
Yes, it literally is. It was when Nazis shipped jews out of country. It was when Israel did the Nakba. It was when Milosovic did it in the former Yugoslavia in the 90s.
Europe is deindustrializing because they're heavily reliant on expensive energy imports. Before they could buy cheap Russian oil. They also decided to double down on being US vassals despite the US clearly disrespecting them. They either have to import fuel from elsewhere, import way more Chinese renewables, or both, and then their economy can start recovering.
By far most immigrants within Europe are from Europe itself. Those who migrated from elsewhere are providing cheaper labor and doing the jobs white people don't wanna do if at all possible (such as cleaning, delivering food, driving you around, factory jobs, etc). Kicking them out will only accelerate Europe's economies imploding, as the main issue remains one of energy demand and deindustrialization (because energy isn't cheap enough). If you want to look at a European country ran similarly to what you like, look into the way Hungary treats Roma people. It didn't help any Hungarian workers.
If you all need to do a second holocaust to realize that wasn't the problem I'm done with you.
Europe is deindustrializing because they’re heavily reliant on expensive energy imports.
We've deindustrialized due to economically stagnant policies (this is what he means by "degrowth"). The consequence is being reliant on imports for everything, not just energy. The solution is increasing the supply of cheap & stable energy per capita.
Long term, European productivity is also cleaner (GDP/Tonne carbon dioxide) than both US & Chinese production which means that this is a net benefit for the climate, at least until y'all catch up.
They also decided to double down on being US vassals despite the US clearly disrespecting them.
This is incorrect. European nations are working on lowering reliance on the US, including military, banking & software. We are however even less interested in being Chinese vassals (we are, in fact, already too reliant on China), which means that it's going to take time. Check in again in a decade or so.
Cheaper labor
Welfare states are sustained on a high average cost of labour. Cheap labour is a problem not an asset. Unless you want to run a neoliberal economy for billionaires that is.
cleaning, delivering food, driving you around, factory jobs
The average European cleans their own home, transports their own food and transports themselves around. Oh, and as we already established, factory jobs are few and far between.
white people
This is a very good way to demonstrate your ignorance of the European situation.
It’s always fascinating to me how smart people can be so dumb.
Yeah, being smart, being educated and being wise are three entirely separate things.
