Is he saying the atmosphere is a shared resource that no nation should be filling with pollution?

It's fascinating how close he is to getting it, while the world knows he never, never will.

[-] amio@lemmy.world 99 points 1 month ago

Meh, weaponized hypocrisy is 99% of what comes out of his blubbery bitch-ass.

[-] Solumbran@lemmy.world 47 points 1 month ago

No, he's saying that the atmosphere is a resource owned by the US and that other countries should pay for it.

[-] quick_snail@feddit.nl 13 points 1 month ago

I mean, he has done more for renewable energy than any previous president.

He's increased the cost of gasoline, and done wonders for the electrical grid in Cuba.

As a Canadian in the middle of these wildfires, which fire marshalls and environmental scientists have been warning about for years, I'm glad Doug Ford is getting chastised by his big buddy over a problem that should weigh heavily on his shoulders.

And yes, please, set a precedent to start treating the air as a shared resource. I can't wait to see what kind of penalties get levied against the US once we make that a thing.

I know he'll forget the whole thing once he starts sundowning tonight, but a girl can dream.

[-] ilinamorato@lemmy.world 73 points 1 month ago

Literally old man yells at cloud.

[-] fizzle@quokk.au 64 points 1 month ago

This fucking dumbass. Lets tariff them, that will surely stop them creating all this smoke. The outcome from his liberation day tariff war was so abysmal I'm surprised he's not too ashamed to utter the word ever again.

[-] SpaceNoodle@lemmy.world 37 points 1 month ago

That would require an iota of self-awareness.

[-] radiofreebc@lemmy.world 28 points 1 month ago

Tariff THEM? Do Americans not know how tariffs work? This is like punching yourself in the face and then saying you got beat up.

[-] bigkahuna1986@lemmy.ml 35 points 1 month ago

I've had maga family tell at me that the other nation pays tariffs despite all evidence to the contrary. To answer your question, no they don't know how it works.

[-] Klanky@sopuli.xyz 14 points 1 month ago

As someone who works with tariffs every day, people believing this infuriates me.

That demented thing can not feel shame.

[-] sundray@lemmus.org 11 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago)

Oh indeed, and on top of the man's own innate mental problems, he was also warped by Roy Cohen and Norman Vincent Peale. From the former he learned to never apologize, never admit to losing, never admit to being wrong, and always attack every critic; from the latter he learned to believe that he cannot fail, and in fact that God himself will ensure his victory. He is a perfect storm of narcissism.

[-] ivanvector@piefed.ca 62 points 1 month ago

As a punishment for Canadian wildfires, Trump raises taxes that only Americans pay.

Make it make sense, challenge level impossible

[-] explodicle@sh.itjust.works 12 points 1 month ago

Simple. These wildfires are exacerbated by climate change. American consumerism fuels climate change. By increasing taxes on Americans, he's reducing future wildfires.

[-] SirEDCaLot@lemmy.today 28 points 1 month ago

This is fucked up. I don't usually jump too hard on the anti-Trump bandwagon (I don't like the guy but I'm not usually rabid about it) but this really takes the fucking cake.

When CA had wildfires, Canada sent us a ton of help-- a bunch of firefighting aircraft, complete with air crews and ground support. It made a big difference.

We have firefighting aircraft. And my understanding is they are parked on the fucking ground while our friends and neighbors to the north are burning. Meanwhile our so-called leader is hurling insults and threats at our friends, while they are literally on fire.

I love my country, but today I'm ashamed. We are supposed to be better than this. Better neighbors, better humans. It's pathetic. It's not us. It shouldn't be us. We should be better than this, as a nation.

[-] PlaidBaron@lemmy.world 11 points 1 month ago

If it helps, we actually view you guys as rotten neighbours.

The ONLY reason he is aware of this is because the air in DC sucks.

[-] man_wtfhappenedtoyou@lemmy.world 11 points 1 month ago

Hope it kills him faster

[-] peteypete420@sh.itjust.works 9 points 1 month ago

But he is in Florida, how would he know?

[-] Lucidlethargy@sh.itjust.works 26 points 1 month ago

This assfuck is all-in on AI and data centers. He doesn't give a fuck about the air.

He could help Canada, but he won't. It's all about bullshit. He needs to feed his fat fucking cow followers with endless bullshit. No gaps in the feedings. Bullshit day and night.

[-] Steve@communick.news 22 points 1 month ago

Seriously. I've said this many times before.
Not everything Rump says is newsworthy. Reporters need to learn when to ignore the moron.

[-] binux@sh.itjust.works 14 points 1 month ago

Rump breathing == media profit. Outrage sells after all.

[-] Taleya@aussie.zone 22 points 1 month ago

We need to reframe this as "Trump opens dialogue about climate-driven environmental hazards, proposes punitive measures for polluting nations"

See how fast we can get the whitehouse hyenas to shit themselves

He's this close to understanding externalized costs...

[-] plasticbuddha@lemmy.world 17 points 1 month ago

Now Canada is distracting from the Epstein files...

[-] CyberneticOwl@lemmy.world 16 points 1 month ago

I mean, careful what you wish for: legislators could troll Trump by drafting bills that use the same language to go after his agencies that have screwed up air quality, water quality, etc.

[-] Typotyper@sh.itjust.works 14 points 1 month ago

Maybe they should worry about their fires

[-] Lushed_Lungfish@lemmy.ca 19 points 1 month ago

Canada has routinely sent folks to help fight American forest fires. Because that is who we are.

[-] Malyca@lemmy.zip 10 points 1 month ago

Those of us in the Pacific Northwest will never forget the kind help of our neighbors to the north. Trump is a piece of shit, but we remember here.

Dear Canada,

I am really sorry about the senile old fuckwit criminal that some of us decided to let run wild. I tried to tell the other fuckwits that it was a terrible idea. They did not listen.

Sincerely,

Your Friend in the Banana Republic to the South

Hmm when compensation from America since they are now invading us with vile smoke from Oregon and Idaho at this very moment?

[-] ClassyHatter@sopuli.xyz 13 points 1 month ago

Trump should put 100% import tariff on wildfire smoke.

It would probably be good if the governments of North America could come together and discuss how to more responsibly and sustainably manage their forests. Beyond increasing temperatures caused by climate change, the recent intensity of summer fires on this continent are also driven by the fact that we no longer do controlled burns of forest lands evolved to regularly burn, leading to accumulated dry underbrush. We treat our managed forests like farms, monocropping species onto dry hills that are better adapted for wetter, more diverse ravines. We woefully underfund the departments tasked with doing these things. As bad as climate change is, these summer fires could be way more mild if only we could hold our governing bodies to be more responsible. But I guess that's where the climate change ultimately came from, too.

Can't ICE just shoot the dirty air for moving in the general direction of one of those masked goons? They could fear for their life or something.

[-] Bluewing@lemmy.world 12 points 1 month ago

I don't know about you, but the "filthy" air invading my home is caused by the 70,000 acres of forest burning my own state......

****This is what can happen if you do not properly manage the fire burden of forests by allowing fire to consume the dead trees and ground cover. But god forbid the tourists from big cities see a section of burned forests! They tend to get all riled up.

Old Man Yells at Cloud

[-] uriel238 10 points 1 month ago

This comes from the rake the forests guy.

Nowadays he alternates between old man yelling at cloud and batshit insane.

[-] Shayeta@feddit.org 9 points 1 month ago

Interesting... Though not nearly as interesting as the epstein files. WHERE ARE THEY!?

[-] Varpeggio@lemmy.zip 8 points 1 month ago

I want off Mr. Bones’ Wild Ride.

[-] xangadix@lemmy.world 8 points 1 month ago

Are the Epstein Files in the wildfire smoke? No? Then let the fire department do their job and bring the child-molester-in-chief to justice. Also, it wouldn't hurt to bring back those environmental laws you abolished.
