And yet, I still see Australians call their money "Aussie dollars" instead of the clearly superior term: dollarydoos.

Do it! Don't be cowards!

[-] Baggie@lemmy.zip 15 points 2 days ago

We also use dollarydoos

Ducks for short.

[-] dellish@lemmy.world 3 points 2 days ago

This is correct. Nobody says "Aussie dollars".

It is a bit redundant when you're in the same country.

People in England don't call English muffins English muffins, and Berliners don't call Berliners Berliners, why would Australians call Australian dollars Australian Dollars, unless they needed to specify?

[-] addie@feddit.uk 5 points 2 days ago

BBC food, English muffins are indeed called English muffins here: https://www.bbc.co.uk/food/recipes/english_muffins_56640

Where I am (oop north), if you just said "muffin", people would assume you meant the small round bit of bread that you put fillings into; a barm, a roll, ...

Yup, dacks are pants. To dack someone is to pull their pants down (like the nasty school prank, see also pantsing). Sweatpants are part of a tracksuit, hence tracky-dacks.

[-] OwOarchist@pawb.social 8 points 2 days ago

like the nasty school prank

Ah, I see. You call it 'dacking', I call it 'sexual assault'.

I would add, 'dacks' is a bit more specifically closer to 'undies', at least in my area.
And track pants are also called Trackies.

[-] naught101@lemmy.world 6 points 2 days ago

Words for undies and swimmers are very regional

[-] dellish@lemmy.world 3 points 2 days ago

Undies are underderps, not dacks.

[-] lyralycan@sh.itjust.works 3 points 2 days ago

In England some folk also call them 'tra(c|k)kies', also short for 'tracksuit bottoms' that pair with 'tracksuit tops'

[-] TomMasz@piefed.social 8 points 2 days ago

We're just jealous of the Australians because they're having more fun with words that we ever will.

[-] Viking_Hippie@lemmy.dbzer0.com 4 points 2 days ago

Nah, I'm having plenty of fun with words on a daily basis myself.

Which is why I wholeheartedly support the linguistic tomfoolery of these Aussie raconteurs 😄🫶🏼

Can't wait to get home and put on my shorty-dorts

[-] Sadbutdru@sopuli.xyz 2 points 2 days ago

It's not just a bit of nonsense tho, trackies is tracksuit (trousers), and dacks has been another word for trousers/ pants since way before trackies were invented. Also works quite well in "shat yer dacks"
