Chernobyl
Our Flags Means Death and Peacemaker were my favorite two shows on HBO.
Not heard of those but they look great thanks
Barry
The Wire. Best show ever.
It really is. I fucking love that show
The Outsider
True Detective seasons 1 and 4
I'm watching a George Carlin show that's pretty good.
White Lotus
Lovecraft Country
The Pitt!!!
Rooster
Flight attendant- season 1 is better than 2.
We like Restored.
Lovecraft county looks interesting... what kind of show is it? What's it similar to?
As someone else that really enjoyed it, it's kind of a combination. Predominantly it's a horror show with strong Lovecraftian themes, but it also takes place in the 1950s US South and really uses that setting as it's own flavor of horror.
Sounds good thanks
Maybe like Lovecraft and Stephen King made a movie set in the racial tension of the 50s.
Surely you mean True Detective season 3?
1 was the little stick things. 2 was LA? 3- oh yeah, the guy with different times.. Good but you really have to pay attention. 4 was alaska. I think one and four are best, then three. I couldn't get into season two.
Band of Brothers, OZ, Deadwood.
Common Side Effects, Peacemaker is pretty fun
Harley Quinn (the adult animated series) is funnier than it had any right to be
Peacemaker!
The best show ~~on HBO~~ is Six Feet Under. At the very least, it has the best ending, of any TV series, ever.
Bonus: Gay Dexter (but really, all the lead actors are great, not just Hall)
Rome
I liked Hacks a lot.
Rooster
I haven't seen it yet, but Larry David's new historical comedy.
Barry
I've also been re-watching ER there.
They also have a good cosmology show How the Universe Works
I used to be obsessed with ER. Absolutely fucking loved it
High Maintenance is a good one that isn't as well known
Incredible show. The original short format series before the HBO version was also amazing, though I don't know where to find it anymore
Carnivale is worth a watch if you’re into Twin Peaks, etc.
Though fair warning it was cancelled after one season without really resolving anything. But what exists is very good.
As much as i would say watch the Wire or Sopranos, unless you are glued to your TV a month is hard to finish one of those. The latter is 90ish hours alone.
I would focus on the short and sweet ones alongside maybe one of those. Band of Brothers, Rome, Deadwood are all ones you can easily finish.
The Leftovers is amazing if you have not seen it yet, it's a bit dramatic and sad at times so if you are super depressed maybe not watch it. It's about the end of the world, when half of the people are ascended into heaven and the show deals with the people left behind hence the name. Anyways, it does have a lot of religious overtones to it because of the premise so if that bothers you maybe give it a pass, but I never found it preachy, it's more a story about human emotion, resolve and love and it's quite beautiful.
I love The Leftovers, I don’t even think it necessarily suggested it was for sure the rapture or that they went to heaven, it’s all very ambiguous. It’s been a long time but the ending felt more nihilistic than hopeful. Could just be my deconstructed perspective though
Interesting a lot of people in this thread were downvoted for no reason, meh whatever
Yeah that's true, it's been a while since I saw it but I suppose they do never really mention heaven like that. I suppose it leaves it up to the person, I was raised Catholic so I guess that's where my mind went with it :P
Oh I definitely see the parallels too, former southern Baptist here, there’s a lot to take away from a religious, areligious, and agnostic standpoint.
I suppose that's why I liked it, it left things so open. Honestly the camp outside of Jarden is kind of how things feel these days in the US lol
Shit I hadn’t made that connection yet… you may have prompted a rewatch lol
- The Night Of
- Flight of the Conchords
- Curb Your Enthusiasm
- Silicon Valley
- Vice Principals
- The Righteous Gemstones
- Eastbound and Down
Chernobyl, Band of brothers, the wire, true detective s1
Los Espookys
Fantasmas is a weird little show that is unlike most stuff I’ve seen. Very creative.
Task
Task
And i will say it again, Task!
Also by the same writer “Mare of EastTown”.
Task was one I scrolled past cos it looked a bit tacky. Is it actually a good show?
The Pitt!
30 Coins is great if you don't mind other languages than English.
Otherwise you can always rewatch 'How it's made' for the four hundredth time 😃
Not yet mentioned:
The Deuce
The Chair Company
The Penguin
The Rehearsal
Oh man can't recommend the first season of the rehearsal (it's not bad it just fucked me up lol) but the second season is so good (and not connected to the first at all so can start there)
I watched the first episode of The Chair Company, and from what I can gather it's basically an ITYSL sketch but drawn out into a whole show. And tbh I kinda love it for that absurd reason.
I loved Hacks. I’m sad that it’s over, but they timed it right.
Treme, since it hasn't been mentioned yet. David Simon's next thing after The Wire. I'm not sure I'd say it's a better show, but it's very good, and it affected me more.
The Larry Sanders Show was great. Rip Torn was hilarious in it.
