Lateral, with Tom Scott, is a fantastic podcast. I also like Escape this Podcast (escape room in podcast form), Let's Learn Everything (science-adjacent), Good Job Brain (trivia), Highside Lowside (motorcycle stuff), Data Over Dogma (religion from data/historical/linguistic perspective, mostly bible stuff), Words Unravelled (linguistics), and Lingthusiasm.

I have more related to the language I'm learning, other religious topics (I'm an atheist but still find it interesting from a history perspective), and some other stuff I think is less interesting to a broad audience. RIP Sci-Show Tangents which I would love to have recommended.

Me, who edits comments over and over until I believe they convey my message correctly.

You, who didn't even double check that your fingers were on the home row, but submitted the comment, regardless.

[-] binarytobis@lemmy.world 34 points 4 days ago

That feeling after your 4th edit, when the story you wrote out finally flows cleanly and doesn’t have any snags that will spur an internet argument, then you hit cancel and move on without posting it.

Typing out the comment then delete it is therapeutic, but without the traumatisation of getting piled on.

TBF the home row wouldn't matter. There's enough food stuck between the keys that what you press isn't what you get anyway.

"what if nobody wants to listen to it??"

Does not matter bro. Create. Be free

[-] Doug@piefed.social 39 points 4 days ago

When I did webcomics I was worried nobody would think they were funny or had some reservations about public opinions.

Then I watched some documentary on comic artists, including Calvin & Hobbe’s Bill Watterson, and he said something like “I just make something I think is funny, and if my wife also thinks it’s funny that’s a bonus, and everyone else can think whatever they want to think, but I’m happy with it, and that’s all I really cared about.”

And that was enough for me to get into it.

Make it for you first. Everyone else is a bonus.

[-] NOPper@lemmy.dbzer0.com 11 points 4 days ago

I have thousands worth of random modular, sequencers, groove boxes, software synths... It's endless. I sold a ton the last few years. I own 5 guitars for "different purposes". I have a Tracker Mini on the way tomorrow.

I've never produced a single thing I'd want to share with anyone. But I have fun making bleep bloops and that's what I remember when I start to feel bad about it. I just wanna live in a musical spaceship and that's ok until it's not, so let's just make cool sounds and not worry about it. 🤷‍♂️

I've never listened to a podcast like that. It sounds like low effort reality TV style content.

We are all working class

[-] swab148@lemmy.dbzer0.com 32 points 4 days ago

I made released an album last year, spent the previous year working on it. Probably about 100 listens so far, across all the tracks, but it's fine 🥲 I've been using it like a demo, taking some of the songs to my new band, so they can hear what I had in my head!

Or if Bandcamp's not your bag, I also put them on YouTube, just look up "Jimmy Halliday"!

[-] ThunderChunk@lemmy.dbzer0.com 2 points 1 day ago

I listened to that when you posted it up in c/punk!! I love it!

[-] swab148@lemmy.dbzer0.com 1 points 1 day ago

Thanks! I had a lot of fun making it! Though, if I could to go back in time, I'd probably nix a few of the tracks lol

[-] Leviathan@lemmy.world 24 points 4 days ago

No foolin', that was great. My girlfriend liked it too!

How about a trade?

[-] swab148@lemmy.dbzer0.com 13 points 4 days ago

Fuck yes! That's going straight into the playlist!

[-] Leviathan@lemmy.world 10 points 4 days ago

Hell yeah! Thanks, dude! Same!

Interactions like these are why I love the comment section. It's great when a post ends up being a vehicle for conversation

I average 6 listeners a month on streaming platforms lol. But hey, that’s better than 0. And I do it for the love of music first and foremost.

In my personal experience...nobody wants to listen to it😞

But it's ok! I am my biggest fan😋

[-] SethTaylor@lemmy.world 13 points 4 days ago

I make an "I will listen to your song" post in my group every now and then. Or you can just post it in the group. It's mostly just me posting there. Could use more people :)

I'm the pottery/ceramics world we have the debate all the time about if pottery is a craft or art. Personally I think it's a art that can be functional.

I mean, the name "creator" is apt. They create bullshit videos out of anything.

Doesn't mean it's good

Genuinely don't understand why people like podcasts anyway. If I am filling my free time with MORE humans speaking at me, I am doing something wrong. Let it be music, the sonic escapism drug, not the boringly harsh reality of someone else's shopping trip.

[-] sanpo@sopuli.xyz 33 points 4 days ago

Just find better podcasts. I don't really know what kind of crap people making these memes listen to.

You can check out Darknet Diaries as an example of podcast providing something useful/entertaining instead of just some guys talking about nothing.

Saying you don't like podcasts is like saying you don't like music. There's so many, made by so many people, in so many different ways, on so many subjects, that there's bound to be at least a couple you think are amazing. I mean, if all podcasts were just a bunch of dude-bros having a verbal wank into a microphone once or twice a week, then yeah, miss me with that shit. But a lot of them put a lot of effort into producing a high quality professional sounding show. Some of my favorites are 99% Invisible, which is a very well made show about not so obvious features of architecture and design; One Song, where they break popular songs down into all the isolated tracks and talk about how it was all put together; This Podcast Will Kill You, where they do well researched histories of diseases and toxins, their discovery, treatment, social impacts, etc; and You Are Not So Smart, which is a podcast about psychology and sociology. Other people already mentioned Behind the Bastards and Darknet Diaries, which I also listen to regularly. Chances are that no matter what subjects or hobbies you have a deep interest in there's at least one or two really well made podcasts about it.

This meme has always felt like it came from another universe.

In a world where yapping podcasts aimed at men are derided, this is the one meme that portrays them in a positive light.
