People are so weird and performative about pets.

I promise it is okay to love and appreciate your pet as a pet and animal without unnecessarily projecting human thought and intention onto them.

[-] Modern_medicine_isnt@lemmy.world 3 points 3 hours ago

Or they were just bored.

[-] billwashere@lemmy.world 3 points 3 hours ago

I really miss my dog now.

[-] hanrahan@piefed.social 2 points 3 hours ago

If a random stranger did this of course you'd call the police.

[-] Apytele@sh.itjust.works 7 points 6 hours ago

My cat has an automatic feeder and still tries to dig me out of my blankets sometimes. One time I was trying to sleep and she kept rubbing on my face so I pulled my blankets over my head and wrapped them around with a tiny breathing hole for my mouth and nose. So she started shoving her paw in the hole to dig me out. So for those that think the cat just wants food, she HAD food. She just also wanted to rub her face all over my face.

better than her butthole

[-] prenatal_confusion@feddit.org 2 points 5 hours ago

Oe they want to check up on you. Especially a dog with herding traits. Just like laying across your feet unser the table having a nap. Try to get up and they will notice and keep controlling you

[-] Furbag@pawb.social 5 points 10 hours ago

Just like the OP, except then my dog vomits on the floor and leaves again.

[-] BeatTakeshi@lemmy.world 9 points 13 hours ago

Then didn't find the smell of doritos on my fingers and left. So selfless.

[-] WolfmanEightySix@piefed.social 2 points 10 hours ago

We call animals or humans from hundreds of years ago that never went far from their home simple, yet they only want for what they need really, and don’t fuck anything up. I’m envious.

[-] wonderingwanderer@sopuli.xyz 13 points 15 hours ago

This was clearly written with AI.

[-] herrvogel@lemmy.world 9 points 13 hours ago

Eh. Posts like these existed since before Facebook. You'd get emails along these lines from people, asking you to forward it to 43 of your most loved ones.

[-] wonderingwanderer@sopuli.xyz 5 points 13 hours ago

I don't say it's AI because it's substanceless feel-good BS engagement bait.

The structure this post follows is the exact formula that AI chatbots follow when prompted to write something like this. It was not written by a human.

[-] funkless_eck@sh.itjust.works 16 points 18 hours ago

I've only ever seen this with the accompanying doodle of a cat with the speech bubble, "Let's go see what the two legged cuck is up to."

[-] mavu@discuss.tchncs.de 22 points 19 hours ago

Unless its a cat obviously. Then it just wants more food. Or maybe need a door opened.

[-] osanna@lemmy.vg 17 points 15 hours ago

You joke, but cats are definitely capable of love for their humans. My cats love me like no other. My male cat can’t stand to be away from me. He gets separation anxiety when I’m not around and needs to lay on me for hours upon hours.

People who say that cats don’t need their humans have clearly never had a cat and are basing it on fake beliefs.

[-] Onomatopoeia@lemmy.cafe 8 points 14 hours ago

I've had cats.

Really depends on the cat.

[-] NABDad@lemmy.world 19 points 19 hours ago

It's love if it's a cat too, it's just flipped.

For a dog, it's coming to see where its master is. For a cat, it's coming to see where its pet monkey is.

[-] Agent641@lemmy.world 6 points 19 hours ago

Love of food

[-] Sabata11792@ani.social 5 points 16 hours ago

6am? Time to sing the Song of Food.

[-] kuadhual@lemmy.world 77 points 1 day ago

Definitely not quiet. Especially when you were in the bathroom and you closed the door.

[-] TaterTot@piefed.social 63 points 1 day ago

Or, in the case of my cats, were cold and knew I was the warmest object available.

Which is why they stop "checking on me" in the summer.

[-] ArmoredThirteen@lemmy.zip 36 points 22 hours ago

My old cat likes to be in the same room as people but at a distance. He'll follow around a few minutes behind once he realizes you've left for the other room for longer than grabbing something and coming back. Doesn't really matter what he's doing even if just sleeping he just wants the company, at the other side of the room

[-] BradleyUffner@lemmy.world 19 points 20 hours ago

He's making sure his property hasn't wondered off. /s

My 17 y/o boy Charlie would do this too. It's a good feeling.

[-] ScoffingLizard@lemmy.dbzer0.com 55 points 1 day ago

My favorite is when they put their head on your leg or arm to rest. So sweet...

[-] volore@scribe.disroot.org 16 points 15 hours ago* (last edited 15 hours ago)

My dog only does this to beg food from me and it's very effective. Like you might forget about him if he's not physically touching you, reminding you to share.

Dog tax, him doing exactly this:

[-] ada@piefed.blahaj.zone 47 points 1 day ago

My cat walks in from another room, sees that I'm there, and then turns around and leaves again

[-] sp3ctr4l@lemmy.dbzer0.com 4 points 10 hours ago

Making the rounds, premises nominal, nothing to report.

[-] NoForwadSlashS@piefed.social 38 points 21 hours ago

Just checking the food ape is still there.

[-] M33@piefed.world 43 points 1 day ago
[-] adarza@lemmy.ca 34 points 1 day ago

if they're "looking" for you, they just wanna make sure the foodputerouter is still around.

[-] SharkWeek 13 points 1 day ago

Or they need to go pee outside

[-] M33@piefed.world 1 points 22 hours ago

That’s optional 😂

[-] cuerdo@lemmy.world 13 points 21 hours ago

no coping as human coping

[-] Kyle@lemmy.ca 2 points 14 hours ago

Mine definitely came in because he's a hungry labrador and wants food or is trying to convince me to take him on a walk 😅

[-] Move_to_mars@lemmy.world 25 points 1 day ago

One of my coworkers said to me once that a day of our lives is like a week of our pet's life. Since then I make sure to show them affection so much more throughout the day.

[-] Frenchgeek@lemmy.ml 7 points 20 hours ago

Then they take your hand to get you somewhere they need before taking your place on the couch... (Yes, my dog was a smartass)
