Experiencing interruptions?

Just the sheer irony of that. Adblock is there to solve that exact problem.

[-] FosterMolasses@leminal.space 2 points 2 days ago

Beat me to it

[-] RoidingOldMan@lemmy.world 139 points 3 days ago

The only interruption is the 'experiencing interruptions?' thing.

[-] Treczoks@lemmy.world 52 points 3 days ago

And their stupid idea to "translate" the audio. No thanks, I want to listen to the original. If I ever want to listen to a robovoice reading a bad translation, I will gladly tell you.

[-] Dagnet@lemmy.world 22 points 3 days ago

Gotta love when YouTube auto dubs a video in my own native language. I guess it's impossible for someone to speak 2 languages

[-] Tempus_Fugit@lemmy.world 91 points 3 days ago

Time is my most valuable resource. I'll not be spending it watching ads.

[-] BeardededSquidward 29 points 3 days ago

Especially since they keep making them longer, unskippable, and frequent. I'll take 10 seconds of "loading" because I grew up on dial up. I'm used to waiting.

[-] krisevol@lemmus.org 3 points 3 days ago

That's why i just pay the premium family plan. Everyone is my house is ad free and my car yourube music is already ad free. I'm not listen to an ad on my 10 min commute.

[-] krisevol@lemmus.org 0 points 2 days ago

Oh no, someone pays $24 bucks a month for 5 ad free accounts and support businesses giving him an options for completly ad free streaming.

Cringe am i right!

[-] StillAlive@piefed.world 7 points 2 days ago
[-] conartistpanda@lemmy.world 3 points 2 days ago

Giving that much money to google then defending it is ultra cringe

[-] krisevol@lemmus.org 1 points 1 day ago

Comparing about free ad supported plans is cringe bro

Business supporter detected!

I'm going to take this opportunity to soapbox about YouTube Morphe

If you're an android user, it's the replacement for revanced. All the devs left revanced after a falling out with the lead maintainer so they hard forked revanced into morphe. Now it gets daily updates and is leagues ahead of revanced, where it gets the vast majority of dev attention.

Revanced is maintained by one angry guy now. People want to help but can't deal with his attitude so he gets piecemeal PRs. He's taken to stealing code from morphe without attribution, so the morphe team (unwisely IMO) DMCA'd revanced. It's why there's been no development for over a month. He can't steal code (including typos lol) without violating the cease and desist.

If nothing changes revanced is going to be abandonware soon... It doesn't have the dev attention morphe gets, and donations are moving to morphe now too...

There's also a whole rant about how that lead dev for revanced is the main mod on the subreddit and bans anyone for saying "Morphe" "Morpheus" "M" .etc

Yes, saying "M" will get you permanently banned from there...

[-] iocase@lemmy.zip 2 points 1 day ago

Yep that's the one

[-] khannie@lemmy.world 5 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago)

Well thank you for that. I went and installed it on your recommendation and HOLY FUCKING SHIT what an upgrade.

For anyone else doing it, after the install is complete, disable YouTube in the system app settings then associate Morphe with all YouTube links (in the morphe system app settings).

Happy to answer any questions if anyone else is doing it as the process is fresh in my head.

[-] Treczoks@lemmy.world 24 points 3 days ago

Yep. I guess the duration wasted on the ads is probably much longer than that delay. I can live with a small wait in exchange for keeping my sanity.

[-] OrgunDonor@lemmy.world 14 points 2 days ago

Honestly, I can wait longer than the Ads run for to not have them shoved down my throat.

[-] Ookami38@sh.itjust.works 10 points 2 days ago

My mother wonders why I have such a vendetta against advertisements. She got an ad on a YouTube video convincing her with a onslaught of fake pop-ups she had to update her PDF reader. Lord knows what would have happened if she had clicked it. If the only way to receive your product is to watch an ad, I'm going somewhere else full atop.

[-] Treczoks@lemmy.world 5 points 2 days ago

That is the major problem with ads. Being Obnoxious is one thing, but a noticable amount of ads are either phishing, or even outright malware. To protect against those is the most important job of an adblocker. It is an important tool of defense.

[-] OrgunDonor@lemmy.world 1 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago)

Honestly, I can wait for longer than the Ads would take, to not have them shoved down my throat.

[-] Syndication@lemmy.today 71 points 3 days ago

Artificial interruptions. They also lag your browser if it isn't shitty chrome. I created a virtual card and loaded it with a couple dollars and tried the free trial to see if it was firefox causing the lag. Guess what? YT magically was loading fine on firefox.

[-] muusemuuse@sh.itjust.works 1 points 1 day ago

What is this from?

[-] MutantTailThing@lemmy.world 43 points 3 days ago* (last edited 3 days ago)

The real kicker is I’m not experiencing interruptions at all. I’d pick this little pop-up hanging on my screen for a few seconds over a loud annoying ad with dumb music and stupid sounding voices any day.

[-] merc@sh.itjust.works 13 points 3 days ago

That's why I like this pop-up. It confirms to me that not only is my ad blocker working to hide their ads, it's even defeating their "intentional interruptions" scripts. I guess they're using those to try to convince people to disable / remove their ad blocker? But, I don't even notice any interruptions. Good job stack of ad blocking software. One of you did the job!

[-] FluidBeef@quokk.au 26 points 3 days ago

That’s hilarious given that any “interruptions” while using ad block are significantly less than ads that are over a minute long with zero nutritional content.

[-] amio@lemmy.world 24 points 3 days ago

Pretty smarmy - yes, I get it, google, you're being bitchy because I dared, I had the temerity, to try to watch some shit in a private window. Do you expect me to hand you a straight setup for the lecture just because of the "hey, this sure is slow eh? nudge nudge, wink wink"

[-] Assassassin@lemmy.dbzer0.com 15 points 3 days ago

Temerity: unreasonable or foolhardy contempt of danger or opposition : rashness, recklessness

For anyone else that has never run into this word before. Good vocab, homie.

[-] Drewmeister@lemmy.world 16 points 3 days ago

I've done a lot of work to make sure i don't get ads in my various types of media. Because i rarely see them, i feel like i have less patience for them now. If it ever comes to the point where i can't use youtube without seeing ads, I'll just not use it anymore.

Google won't mind seeing me go; they only see people as ad revenue or data points, and they're not really getting either from me.

[-] Truscape 14 points 3 days ago

The funny bit is non-browser clients never have to deal with this shit even when they block ads (GrayJay/Newpipe/YTRevanced)

[-] Syndication@lemmy.today 14 points 3 days ago

Yup I also watch YT on the Linux "VacuumTube" app and it works fine!

[-] Broken_Orange_Juice@lemmy.world 5 points 2 days ago

I've been downloading most videos I want to watch with Jdownloader. If I really like a channel I'll subscribe to a Patreon or something along those lines. Yes ads suck, but creators need money to keep on creating!

[-] thermal_shock@lemmy.world 3 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago)

Not when they're peddling bullshit just for money. It's one thing to promote something you actually use, but most are bullshit promos just for money. Not interested. You steal my attention to peddle bullshit, expect me to block it. Look at the woman who was talking about her house burning down and put a protein powder ad in the middle. Wt actual fuck.

And now they don't disclose they're advertisements, no thanks, gfy. Private equity buying channels to sell shit.

Internet really sucks, millionaires acting like victims we won't watch their ads 🤣

[-] Tja@programming.dev 1 points 2 days ago

How dare a fire victim try to earn money???

[-] thermal_shock@lemmy.world 2 points 2 days ago

How dare a "fire victim" (don't even know if it's real actually) continue the grift! It's all fake shit, so many have been caught faking their workouts. It's all bullshit .

[-] Tja@programming.dev 1 points 2 days ago

A few others were lying, therefore this one is lying too. Solid.

[-] thermal_shock@lemmy.world 3 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago)

Bro, believe what you want, I don't have time for room temperature iq defending "influencers" peddling bullshit. I will skip whatever ads I want to. Go touch grass. What a chode.

[-] Tja@programming.dev 1 points 2 days ago

I have no idea who this "influencer" is, you brought them up... I'm sure you are very smart and a very special person, just some of us npcs have a bit of empathy for someone who lost their house. But you're tough and smart, keep winning and smartmaxxing!

[-] LogicalDrivel@sopuli.xyz 7 points 3 days ago

What pisses me off about that little box the most, is it loads instantly. Even if everything on the page loads near instantly that box will show up first. I know its because the ad didn't play so YT freaks out, but if it waited just half a second, it wouldn't bother me so much.

[-] Jako302@feddit.org 1 points 2 days ago

You can just use the object picker in UBlock to remove the box once and for all.

[-] Sunsofold@lemmings.world 6 points 3 days ago

As someone who used adblockers since before that little popup existed, I never associated it with asblockimg. I just thought I had crap internet.

[-] binux@sh.itjust.works 5 points 3 days ago

Coughing Baby (annoying YouTube popup trying to make me to turn off ad-block) vs. Nuclear Bomb (right-click block element with uBlock Origin)

The FBI recommended using an ad blocker long before Patel partied there

[-] trashboypro 2 points 3 days ago

AdNauseam baby! Both an adblocker and a revenue blocker for corporations!

[-] osanna@lemmy.vg 2 points 2 days ago

I installed it recently. Fuck yeah. Fuck the googs and other advertising companies!

[-] Agent641@lemmy.world 2 points 3 days ago

I know why. It's because I'm routing my request through a European country on the other side of the world and shaving off all the cognitogazard JavaScript and ads before displaying it.
