What a gross waste of tax-payer money and police time. Fuck the scientologist hucksters.

Just a bunch of lawyers invoicing the rich to allow them to do immoral things and write it off as a charity donation.

[-] SamuraiBeandog@lemmy.world 5 points 4 days ago* (last edited 4 days ago)

This isn't about scientology, this is about dumbfuck kids going along with stupid shit they saw on the internet for social media clicks. This could just as easily have been a mosque or planned parenthood building. They deserve whatever they get.

[-] SpookyBogMonster@lemmy.ml 29 points 4 days ago

Nah, fucking with Scientology rules, actually

[-] SamuraiBeandog@lemmy.world 4 points 4 days ago

This is a million miles away from actually fucking with Scientology in any way that matters.

[-] athatet@lemmy.zip 15 points 4 days ago

It’s pissing them off so I am absolutely all for it.

[-] SpookyBogMonster@lemmy.ml 11 points 4 days ago

Storming inside of a Scientology building, and disrupting its normal operation is the exact opposite of a million miles away, actually

[-] SamuraiBeandog@lemmy.world 1 points 4 days ago

What exactly do you think that changes?

[-] SpookyBogMonster@lemmy.ml 6 points 4 days ago

Entering buildings to disrupt their ability to operate normally is a pretty well known, and often very effective, means of protest

[-] Malyca@lemmy.zip 9 points 4 days ago

You're a "get off my lawn" fella?

[-] SamuraiBeandog@lemmy.world 3 points 4 days ago* (last edited 4 days ago)

I dunno man, I did plenty of dumb illegal shit when I was a kid but the thing that makes that shit fun is figuring out how not to get caught. Doing this shit just because some narcissist on tiktok told you to and all your friends are doing it, and then literally handing the evidence over to the cops, what am I supposed to think about these little morons?

I don't have a problem with kids being kids, I have a problem with stupid people that are so mindless they just get swept along by the mob with absolutely no comprehension of the effects or consequences of their actions.

[-] PolarKraken@lemmy.dbzer0.com 3 points 4 days ago

Kids swept along by the mob of social media is just literal baseline childhood today. You sound like you're just wishing that away, or avoiding looking at it too hard.

And in this case, the kiddos are doing something cool. Go find the every-single-thing else worth complaining about, this is the least dumb or bad thing happening presently. Makes you sound like an asshole 🤷‍♂️

[-] SamuraiBeandog@lemmy.world 1 points 4 days ago

It's one thing to get swept along by the mob of social media, its a whole 'nother level of dumbassery to do illegal shit and then post the evidence to social media for the cops to come and arrest you. I dunno why that's controversial.

[-] PolarKraken@lemmy.dbzer0.com 1 points 4 days ago

I'll be dead honest, I'm stoked they did for the simple fact of pointing any kind of light at Scientology (I don't need the "this doesn't really help" POV to be clear).

Whether it's stupid in a general sense? Maybe specifically for these ones, yeah, gonna be consequences lol.

But I expect there exists some inflection point, where the knucklehead youths do more and more funny (cool) shit, looking a bit like this.

I think that exists because they've grown up on a singular social message - broadcast *stuff*, it's both no big deal (any given stream) and important (can't not stream). While at the same time things really crumble and get notably shit, the same generation growing up to see the Emperor's Clothes, so to speak, via Epstein and the amazing un-response to some of the worst shit ever.

That'd be I guess, roughly, you and my generation who mostly sleep-walked into that.

So yeah. More people doing and more people streaming the doing is what I expect. If it's inevitable, let's welcome it. Celebrate. If not, regardless of value judgment, starting from just what seems likely, well, strap in lol.

[-] Stern@lemmy.world 48 points 5 days ago* (last edited 5 days ago)

god forbid kids have fun anymore

[-] EarlOfSam@quokk.au 17 points 5 days ago

Y'know people like this complain when kids don't go out, and complain when they do

Smh can't win with these people

[-] hayvan@piefed.world 41 points 5 days ago

Teenagers learning what ACAB means.

[-] psud@aussie.zone 1 points 1 day ago

They need to leave their phones at home

[-] Echinoderm@aussie.zone 27 points 5 days ago

What's the likelihood that the "climbed over and into police vehicles" is 90% of the reason the police care enough to put any resources into a serious investigation?

[-] auzy1@lemmy.world 4 points 4 days ago

It's a religion. Why would they be closing their doors at all?

[-] dan@upvote.au 17 points 5 days ago

Don't post pictures of yourself online

Also don't bring your phone with you, or at least turn it off or put it in plane mode.

[-] Yeller_king@reddthat.com 6 points 5 days ago

But isn't the whole point to get Internet clout?

[-] Psiczar@aussie.zone 3 points 3 days ago

This isn’t the most well written article, it makes it sound like there are police vehicles parked on the grounds of the church of Scientology.

[-] thoughtfuldragon 16 points 5 days ago

Kids ate alright, just got to protect themselves

[-] the_riviera_kid@lemmy.world 10 points 5 days ago

It's "clout culture" combined with poor parenting. They see other people doing it and they want to be part of the in crowd. Because they were never taught critical thinking skills they never stop to think "If my dumbfuck buddy Kyle can see this so can the cops".

When I was growing up I learned to assume everyone is a cop, as a result I made sure no one was looking (even my dipshit peers) before I did something potentially ruinous.

[-] arbilp3@aussie.zone 14 points 5 days ago

Sure, but best not to do illegal shit. However, if you are doing performative illegal shit because you feel angry with some aspects of an institution(s) you find questionable, perhaps find someone to give the reasons for your speedrunning or whatever you're performing otherwise you might end up with a criminal record and that's going to stuff up your life choices a bit.

[-] Soapbox@lemmy.zip 11 points 5 days ago

If you are going to have a criminal record, "tormenting the church of scientology" is a pretty respectable thing to have on it. I would be more inclined to hire someone who did that.

[-] arbilp3@aussie.zone 4 points 4 days ago

Personally I agree with you but not everyone thinks the same. There are also other matters to consider like whether you are a repeat offender, the age the offence was committed, etc. In the current authoritarian climate we need to warn kids not to stop protesting and pranking but to think how they're doing it so it doesn't become self-harming.

[-] HeyThisIsntTheYMCA@lemmy.world 1 points 4 days ago

true, as would it, however there are regulatory bullshits to consider. if somehow the financial industry makes tormenting the church of scientology a crime they can't tolerate for, i don't know, reasons that have absolutely positively nothing to do with shelley miscavige's conspicuously missing skull, maybe you don't want to work in the financial industry.

[-] MalReynolds@slrpnk.net 8 points 5 days ago

The reason is (mostly?) lolz.

Which is far from evil here. At least mask up or whatever to the point of not being (facial recognition + legally) identifiable before posting to your social media about someone who isn't me (SWIM). As per OP, opsec, learn to love it or learn regrets.

[-] arbilp3@aussie.zone 3 points 5 days ago

Yes, i agree it's not evil. They're kids. It's the melding of cyber reality with physical reality together with the illegal action that makes me a bit nervous.

[-] RampantParanoia2365@lemmy.world 6 points 4 days ago

...trend? So other teens have stormed scientology churches?

[-] psud@aussie.zone 1 points 1 day ago

If they're referring to the Anonymous stuff from a decade (two?) ago it doesn't seem a very hot trend

[-] Flying_Penguin@lemmy.zip 7 points 4 days ago

Sorry, seen this in my 'All' feed. Didn't know scientology had a place down there.

But yeah "trend". I think the building here in California took the door knobs off their entrances because it kept happening.

[-] hanrahan@slrpnk.net 4 points 5 days ago* (last edited 5 days ago)

mmmm ordinary people learn from their mistakes, smart people learn from the mistakes of others (not this group or they'd not have posted b soc media), stupid people never kearn

They literally did this to put it on social media so it seems odd to suggest they don't then put it on social media

[-] eestileib 1 points 4 days ago

True life lessons often hurt at the time.

Where is all the footage from those 200 teens?
