This isn't about scientology, this is about dumbfuck kids going along with stupid shit they saw on the internet for social media clicks. This could just as easily have been a mosque or planned parenthood building. They deserve whatever they get.

Nah, fucking with Scientology rules, actually

[-] SamuraiBeandog@lemmy.world 4 points 5 days ago

This is a million miles away from actually fucking with Scientology in any way that matters.

[-] athatet@lemmy.zip 15 points 5 days ago

It’s pissing them off so I am absolutely all for it.

Storming inside of a Scientology building, and disrupting its normal operation is the exact opposite of a million miles away, actually

[-] SamuraiBeandog@lemmy.world 1 points 4 days ago

What exactly do you think that changes?

[-] SpookyBogMonster@lemmy.ml 6 points 4 days ago

Entering buildings to disrupt their ability to operate normally is a pretty well known, and often very effective, means of protest

You're a "get off my lawn" fella?

I dunno man, I did plenty of dumb illegal shit when I was a kid but the thing that makes that shit fun is figuring out how not to get caught. Doing this shit just because some narcissist on tiktok told you to and all your friends are doing it, and then literally handing the evidence over to the cops, what am I supposed to think about these little morons?

I don't have a problem with kids being kids, I have a problem with stupid people that are so mindless they just get swept along by the mob with absolutely no comprehension of the effects or consequences of their actions.

Kids swept along by the mob of social media is just literal baseline childhood today. You sound like you're just wishing that away, or avoiding looking at it too hard.

And in this case, the kiddos are doing something cool. Go find the every-single-thing else worth complaining about, this is the least dumb or bad thing happening presently. Makes you sound like an asshole 🤷‍♂️

[-] SamuraiBeandog@lemmy.world 1 points 4 days ago

It's one thing to get swept along by the mob of social media, its a whole 'nother level of dumbassery to do illegal shit and then post the evidence to social media for the cops to come and arrest you. I dunno why that's controversial.

I'll be dead honest, I'm stoked they did for the simple fact of pointing any kind of light at Scientology (I don't need the "this doesn't really help" POV to be clear).

Whether it's stupid in a general sense? Maybe specifically for these ones, yeah, gonna be consequences lol.

But I expect there exists some inflection point, where the knucklehead youths do more and more funny (cool) shit, looking a bit like this.

I think that exists because they've grown up on a singular social message - broadcast *stuff*, it's both no big deal (any given stream) and important (can't not stream). While at the same time things really crumble and get notably shit, the same generation growing up to see the Emperor's Clothes, so to speak, via Epstein and the amazing un-response to some of the worst shit ever.

That'd be I guess, roughly, you and my generation who mostly sleep-walked into that.

So yeah. More people doing and more people streaming the doing is what I expect. If it's inevitable, let's welcome it. Celebrate. If not, regardless of value judgment, starting from just what seems likely, well, strap in lol.
