This bitch thinks she’s gonna win the senate seat with decisions like that? Fuck right the hell off, Janet.

of note:

However, the Maine House of Representatives voted against the exemption, 115-29, which is more than enough to meet the two-thirds majority required to override Mills. Aside from disagreeing with the majority of the Maine Democratic Party, this also exposes her to a political challenge as she attempts to secure a nomination as the Democratic contender for a U.S. Senate seat, facing political newcomer Graham Platner.

that primary is gonna be rough

choosing between a shithead nazi guy and a technocrat-loving bureaucrat is like choosing between fullbody frostbite and swimming in acid.

[-] Tollana1234567@lemmy.today 3 points 1 day ago

i feel like platners going to beat her, platner is already questionable asf due to his ties, but mills is straight up like schumer.

Whenever they can get away with it, the Democrats are so good at working together, with monied interests, to make America a better place, for themselves and their doners at the expense of the common man.

I'm curious how the average voter in Maine feels about this.

Nobody here knows about it because our news is all owned by Sinclair. The talk is about how Platner made some reddit posts years ago.

ETA: Jay Mainers don't give a shit about a datacenter. They aren't all clamoring for anything like that. These folks hunt and fish and use their various ATVs.

[-] njordomir@lemmy.world 2 points 2 days ago

Well shit. That's a rough spot. I hope more of them start to understand the impact this could have on those same outdoors.

"Jay Mainer" being the equivalent of "Bubba" in the south?

[-] PyroNeurosis 1 points 1 day ago

Jay is the name of the town where the exempted data center was supposed to go.

It'd be like saying 'Sacramento Californians'. Not necessarily wrong, but different. Unless you're suggesting a better demonym.

[-] eestileib 3 points 1 day ago

Ohhhh.

I thought it was like "Jack Mormon".

Thanks!

[-] wheezy@lemmy.ml 1 points 2 days ago

At least in Georgia. I never heard anyone use "Bubba" unless they were literally referring to someone by that name. I only have heard people from non southern states use it.

In the South, when someone is an idiot we don't really have a name for them. You usually just add a "bless their heart" when referring to them.

Thomas, bless his heart, put his shoes on backwards this morning.

[-] eestileib 1 points 2 days ago

I heard it plenty when I lived in South Carolina. It didn't imply stupidity, it implied a blue collar guy with a beer at a boat launch or tailgating a college game. It was also a generic nickname sort of like "cuz" was in Alabama.

[-] wheezy@lemmy.ml 1 points 2 days ago

No, you're right. It's kind of flexible. Maybe I misunderstood the initial comment. I've heard people from outside the south use "bubba" as a way to refer to uneducated white southerners.

[-] eestileib 1 points 2 days ago

I don't know what a Jay Mainer is, and I guess trying to compare it to another idiosyncratic regional stereotype was not the play.

How long before she gets a massive campaign donation from silicon valley I wonder?

[-] Tollana1234567@lemmy.today 2 points 1 day ago

or when schumer endores her, that should be an obvious choice of who she supports.

[-] Tollana1234567@lemmy.today 1 points 1 day ago

shes going to lose to platner isnt she.

I feel like these moratorium bills are kinda missing the big point.

They focus on power usage and toxic pollution and water resources. But what about how using AI damages our communities?

I think we should ban new data centers and require an EIS and that they build renewables to power, say, 200% of their energy usage. But also we should require the State to ban AI from being used by banks, police, and other high risk groups before we lift the moratorium.
