I'm in this image and I don't like it.

I know, right? To whomever is also working on the XKCD image showing the giant stack professional services and verticals that ADHD brains gravitate to supported by the pharmecy refill reminder and refill pipeline: you can stop. We're already down, no need to kick us.

[-] chocrates@piefed.world 4 points 2 weeks ago

Is this a real xkcd? I haven't seen it

[-] wizardbeard@lemmy.dbzer0.com 19 points 2 weeks ago

The real one is this:

But there are many edits floating arpund online.

[-] Geobloke@aussie.zone 2 points 2 weeks ago

Like as careers? I know that heaps of comedians have ADHD, but not much else

[-] JasonDJ@lemmy.zip 24 points 2 weeks ago

Vyvanse (for ADHD and BED) plus Wegovy (for weight loss).

I no longer eat and I have laser focus.

[-] Kojichan@lemmy.world 14 points 2 weeks ago

Vyvanse makes my heart super poundy and made me feel super duper uncomfortable.

I ended up on Paroxetine. Now my husband is finding Vuvande is causing him to have 24/7 headaches.

[-] zeejoo@thelemmy.club 2 points 2 weeks ago

I keep it simple. Methylphenidate 25mg taken as needed for when I need my brian to do things. Sure it's straight meth, sure it makes me a little jittery and my palms a little sweaty, but that's how I know it's working

[-] SoleInvictus 33 points 2 weeks ago* (last edited 2 weeks ago)

Methylphenidate isn't meth at all - it's ritalin/concerta. "Meth" is amphetamine (Adderall) with a substituted methyl group (methamphetamine). This increases its ability to dissolve in lipids, so more enters the brain and at a greater rate.

By mass, methylphenidate is about half the strength of amphetamine. Amphetamine is about 1/5 the strength of methamphetamine, so methylphenidate is about 1/10 the strength of methamphetamine. Amphetamines and methylphenidate also work by different mechanisms, so they have different effects, making the relative strength an imperfect comparison.

Methamphetamine actually is prescribed on rare occasion under the brand name Desoxyn, usually as a last ditch effort for extreme, treatment-resistant ADHD.

Didnt ask but now i know more! Thank you kind stranger! I can finally explain the difference! I used to always say "well yes but actually no" to question "isnt it just meth?"

Funny thing: I didn't ask if you cared and I don't care if you do. I wanted to put the correct information for those who actually care about if things are true or not.

We're not on Facebook, some of us have standards.

Lol someone got upset they were corrected.

[-] zeejoo@thelemmy.club 1 points 2 weeks ago

I wasn't corrected because I made no assertion. I made a joke, but the terminally online are incapable of thought beyond "INACCURATE INFORMATION MUST CORRECT" and it's fucking sad. It wasn't a funny joke, I'll concede that, but I'm not the one worse for wear of this interaction.

[-] StupidBrotherInLaw@lemmy.world 10 points 2 weeks ago

From over here, it looks like you had a wee little tantrum and are scrambling to explain with an absolute shite story. Your 'joke' may not have been funny, but your response after certainly is.

[-] zeejoo@thelemmy.club 1 points 2 weeks ago

Sure it's straight meth, sure it makes me a little jittery and my palms a little sweaty, but that's how I know it's working

If you can't figure out that's a joke you're genuinely a lost cause my guy.

[-] StupidBrotherInLaw@lemmy.world 7 points 2 weeks ago

Lol sure mate. It's not your joke being a damp squib, it's everyone else. Good luck with that.

I feel like you’re way too invested in whatever hill you’re trying to die on here, and nobody else understands what you’re doing either.

[-] CreateProblems@corndog.social 5 points 2 weeks ago* (last edited 2 weeks ago)

Didn't ask

Such a wild response lol

You commented on a forum. People reply. That's... what happens here. The replies are for everyone on the thread, not just you. That's why it was a comment reply and not a DM.

And like, look at where you are, this is an ADHD community. And someone provided relevant information in response to your comment. Of course someone is going to latch on to some small piece and infodump in response, it's the ADHD community

[-] zeejoo@thelemmy.club 1 points 2 weeks ago

Didn't ask lol

[-] nylo@lemmy.dbzer0.com 2 points 2 weeks ago

oh huh ive never heard of Desoxyn being prescribed for ADHD, I was under the impression it was only prescribed for extreme cases of narcolepsy

Yeah, I have the same mentality with Vyvanse. Do I feel like an anxious mess when I’m on it? Fuck yes I do. But anxiety has been my driving motivator for my entire life. After all, the last rung of the “ADHD motivators” list is “urgency”. So at least I know the Vyvanse is working. It just makes everything feel urgent, even when it isn’t. And since it feels urgent, I can do it.

[-] SuiXi3D@fedia.io 7 points 2 weeks ago

I tried it. All it did was up my heart rate. Doc prescribed it as an appetite suppressant. It did fuck all for me in that regard.

[-] chocrates@piefed.world 2 points 2 weeks ago

Me too 😭

damn, did it worked for you? onwas at 40mg and didn't notice any difference, how much y'all take?

[-] Baggie@lemmy.zip 5 points 2 weeks ago

30mg. I sometimes have worse anxiety when it occurs, but my memory now works and I can engage in tasks for 12 hours in a row.

[-] compostgoblin@piefed.blahaj.zone 4 points 2 weeks ago

I take 30mg in the mornings, it works pretty well for me. I took 70mg once and had an absolutely miserable time, it was way too much

[-] Mpatch@lemmy.world 1 points 2 weeks ago

Yall taking the og right? The generic is absolutely fucking garbage and doesn't work for shit.

[-] Jrockwar@feddit.uk 2 points 2 weeks ago

I don't think it's quite like that, I think it's more that an important part of these drugs is the release mechanism - and any two given brands will work differently for a given person.

I take long release methylphenidate (Ritalin/Concerta being the most known brands). I started with Medikinet because that's the main recommendation from my healthcare provider. It turned out it releases most of the dosage in the short term and at 40mg doses I constantly felt like I was at an airport with my boarding gate closing in seconds.

Moved to Meflynate, which is also methylphenidate hydrochloride, and now I'm a happy bunny.

My point being - it's not that generics are bad necessarily, it's more like, only a certain brand(s) will work for you. Whether for you that's the more expensive or cheaper one, it's a bit of a lottery really.

[-] Meron35@lemmy.world 2 points 2 weeks ago

Lisdexafetamine is somewhat unique because the slow release mechanism is more or less inherent to the actual drug itself. That is, the fact that lisdexamfetamine is a prodrug that needs to be processed into dextroamphetamine (the actual stimulant) is the slow release mechanism itself.

Methylphenidate is different because the chemical itself is the stimulant, so pharmaceutical companies need to come up with ways to physically release it slowly, e.g. via mini capsules that dissolve slowly.

Unfortunately every brand and formulation kind of does their own thing in order to differentiate themselves from generics.

IIRC Concerta was the most "advanced" in the sense that they formulated a special double release system where each dose also dissolved slowly. Ritalin LA is much jankier because it basically just released a second or third dose all once later on.

You can search "name of drug" + pharmacokinetics to get more graphs, which in combination with keeping a mood diary can help in nailing down hat works for you.

[-] Mpatch@lemmy.world 1 points 2 weeks ago

Yeah that's the thing it's all about the time release. Correct me if I'm wrong but vyvance big thing is that it.... fuck I forgot it the most of it but it slowly release through the liver because of a extra molecule on the drug. This makes it that your body only sucks it up as needed. When blood levels drop. So allegedly its damn hard to overdose on vyvance. The larger doses are only for how long of a day last for. 40mg 8hrs 60mg 10hrs etc.

[-] Flatworm7591@lemmy.dbzer0.com 3 points 2 weeks ago

Works great for me, though it took a while to find the right dose.

[-] Pipster 2 points 2 weeks ago

I'm on 70mg of Elvanse (same stuff) and I've finally started to feel it but its subtle. The appetite suppression kicked in down at 30mg but the focus and mental shift (feeling good and not resentful at completing tasks and things which seemed impossible to tackle don't look as daunting which helps with procrastination) really didnt happen until I hit 70mg.

I'll try. just once, given that it gives me high blood pressure. my max dose was 40mg, and I got frustrates and began thinking they gave me placebos or some building.

[-] Pipster 2 points 2 weeks ago

In my experience it requires a bit of mental effort to go along with it rather than waiting for it to have an obvious effect. Like with painkillers or antidepressants you can feel it affecting you without needing anything on your part. Elvanse for me has been more like, I still need to make a huge effort for things like getting out of bed or to not procrastinate but that "barrier" is lower and once you start you can just stick to the task a lot easier. So its more like an assistance or booster that doesn't do much by itself rather than an obvious "cure" of symptoms and behaviour.

[-] MrScottyTay@sh.itjust.works 2 points 2 weeks ago

Elvanse gang rise up!

[-] desertdruid 1 points 2 weeks ago

me w Phentermine (im prediabetic)

[-] orbitz@lemmy.ca 1 points 2 weeks ago

I was looking for an alternative to Dexedrine and tried that for a week or two, I was so unproductive I had to move on. Tried a few different ones but nothing else worked for me.
