I think maybe not. The one in charge has to deal with responsibilities. The rest have freedom, they can do whatever they want.

Could be my personality but I'm perfectly happy with living a royal life without the pressure of being in charge

Probably sucks less then being born into a non-Royal family.

Eh...

Just an average family of nobility is better tbh... probably less likely to get you assassinated compared to being seen as a threat by your older brother then him murdering you once he accends to the throne...

FWIW, in the UK they removed the gender rule from the lines of succession right before Prince George was born. And even before then, King George was a second child, and Queen Elizabeth was the first child but female, and they still got the crowns.

I believe Spain has also removed it although current King only has daughters anyway.

That sounds like it would be the dream actually. Why TF would you want to be a monarch?

BOO FUCKING HOOOO.

You get to live a life of obscene luxury and never have to do a god damn thing.

Just fuck the maid and drink a lot….

[-] DeathByBigSad@sh.itjust.works 3 points 5 days ago

But what if I'm a Targaryan and I need my life story to be epic?

[-] IWW4@lemmy.zip 2 points 5 days ago

HEHE!

Ride around on your dragon, then screw the maid and drink alot!

Somebody should write a book about this. Maybe call it "Spare."

Really depends on the era.

Today second-born gets all the benefits (or most anyway) without having to really be responsible for anything.

I get to become a 黑孩子 for the first few years of my life...

Mom always be like: "I had to pay several tens of thousands of ¥ rmb to get your legal identity".

Like I remember she say it so often during my childhood and constantly recounting the story of illegally giving birth to me...

She makes me feel like I owe her a debt... like on top of the "debt" of her taking care of me...

I already got rejected by a government...

I'd feel very sad if she stops talking to me...

Like...

I feel like I need her affirmation to feel like I deserve to exist...

otherwise I'm just some child that's never supposed to be born and even the mom disinherited...

Like... what right do I even have to exist in this world...

So I really need my mom's approval...

Sorry dude, that sounds totally toxic. I hope you can reconcile or at least get out of that situation.

Um, ever watched Macbeth?

Or read Oedipus?

Not exactly a new idea.

A "Showerthought" is a simple term used to describe the thoughts that pop into your head while you're doing everyday things like taking a shower, driving, or just daydreaming. The most popular seem to be lighthearted clever little truths, hidden in daily life.

Here are some examples to inspire your own showerthoughts:

Rules

  1. All posts must be showerthoughts
  2. The entire showerthought must be in the title
  3. No politics
    • If your topic is in a grey area, please phrase it to emphasize the fascinating aspects, not the dramatic aspects. You can do this by avoiding overly politicized terms such as "capitalism" and "communism". If you must make comparisons, you can say something is different without saying something is better/worse.
    • A good place for politics is c/politicaldiscussion
  4. Posts must be original/unique
  5. Adhere to Lemmy's Code of Conduct and the TOS

If you made it this far, showerthoughts is accepting new mods. This community is generally tame so its not a lot of work, but having a few more mods would help reports get addressed a little sooner.

Whats it like to be a mod? Reports just show up as messages in your Lemmy inbox, and if a different mod has already addressed the report, the message goes away and you never worry about it.
