Raycast says they had nothing to do with the ad, and learnt of it only when the Hacker News thread took off.

Wait but like that means that MSFT didn't get money for the ad from Raycast? So like, they just put ads into stuff for no reason whatsoever??

So MS claims, that they don't have ad deals for this!

I wouldn't be too surprised if they really don't, they're just advertising the advertising lol.

edit: Basically what if you spent a trillion dollars so that you could beam ads to people's bathroom mirrors. And better yet, ads reflected from water down in their toilets. Then in the interest of expediency you just take random ads and put them there for free, and your actual product, shares, sells better.

What if, because llms are trained on the internet, this is just something which will eventually be included. Statistically it needs more ads.

I can't even pause my tv without it showing me an add. Those ads are more invasive than zebra mussels or don trump!

Kinda crazy that these date from 2025 and no-one has noticed (or bothered to complain) until now.
