I like to say I'm a musician and a game developer, but it's been so long since I've seriously participated in either that I don't think I deserve to describe myself as such right now.

I enjoy languages, which I do actively study unprofessionally.

Aside from my actual day job, I spend most of my time playing whichever single game I'm hyperfocusing on at the moment, although I would rather be doing one of the aforementioned hobbies.

[-] early_riser@lemmy.world 2 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

Constructed languages, ham radio, homelabbing though that’s more my job now.

Megagames!

They're a cross between role playing games and board games, for many players (30-50 or higher, my max is 250). Watch this video if you want to know more: https://youtu.be/hN71v9H_gg8

This is my jam. I'll be exhausted but there's so much going on, it's insane. They're 1 day events, and having a beer with the other players afterwards is where loads more stories come out. I've done serious crisis simulation, whimsical fantasy games, historical games, war games, and all kinds of games in between. If this appeals to you, there's a calendar of upcoming games here https://www.megagameassembly.com/megagame-calendar

[-] highduc@lemmy.ml 1 points 1 day ago

I read "banking" by mistake and had to do a double take 😂

[-] IronBird@lemmy.world 1 points 2 days ago

any resources you'd recommend for getting into 3d printing?

[-] MissJinx@lemmy.world 3 points 2 days ago

It's always good to join 3dprinting@lemmy.world but the best resource is Youtube. There are a lot of different creators that talk about different parts of the process. From which machine to choose, to calibrating it for the first time.

The "getting into" part of 3d printing is buying the machine the rest of the time is you trouble shooting wtf is going wrong lol so there isn't one specific place.

I love to gate keep! But it's not going well.

[-] bridgeenjoyer@sh.itjust.works 3 points 2 days ago

PSH, you call that bad, my gates WAY worse.

[-] JackiesFridge@lemmy.world 4 points 3 days ago

It’s still there so I’d call that a success.

Lately of a poem-writing spree, with words toying, feeling very free, I've been enjoying greatly.

[-] quediuspayu@lemmy.dbzer0.com 5 points 3 days ago

Is Gear Acquisition Syndrome a hobby? Lol

Origami and making clothes. I'm decent at the former, not self confident enough at the latter.

[-] Lumidaub@feddit.org 13 points 3 days ago

Drawing.

Also spending days rearranging files into more sophisticated structures, finally noticing that it's becoming horribly convoluted enough to be unmaintainable, and tearing the structure down again.

[-] suodrazah@lemmy.world 14 points 3 days ago

Math, programming, having nightmares.

[-] lena@gregtech.eu 18 points 3 days ago

Ah, so you have one hobby?

[-] toomanypancakes@piefed.world 12 points 3 days ago

I'm a terrible drummer and worse producer, and I like to play games.

[-] AnchoriteMagus@lemmy.world 11 points 3 days ago

Reading, creative and technical writing, tabletop gaming, miniature / fine art painting, photography, listening to and writing music (dungeon synth, extreme metal, folk, electronica), hiking, cinema

Cooking. Being gigantic means ya boi eats. So why not enjoy what I eat? I never understood the protein shake drinkers.

[-] wirelesswire@lemmy.zip 4 points 3 days ago

Some people don't mind bland food or eating the same thing all the time. As someone trying to lose weight, I envy them.

[-] YiddishMcSquidish@lemmy.today 4 points 3 days ago

Healthy food doesn't have to bland. One of my favorite things is a spicy red cabbage slaw with lime juice and apple cider vinegar. I'm currently eating carrots with ranch made from Greek yogurt. Denying yourself flavor is not a strategy for long term success.

[-] wirelesswire@lemmy.zip 3 points 3 days ago

I am well aware, but not caring what my food tasted like would make things much easier.

Latest hobby is photography, I had a camera for Christmas after not having a camera with interchangeable lenses in decades. I like that it gets me out the house as like nature/landscape/train photography.

Long standing hobbies are mechanical keyboards and coffee, espresso and pour over.

Keyboards I have really slowed down my purchases to just two or three new keyboards each year.

Coffee I have not purchased anything other than beans in a long time, but I still want to upgrade my espresso machine (marax) at some point.

[-] woodytrombone@lemmy.world 4 points 3 days ago

Boardgaming!

I own a modest company collection, run weekly boardgame nights, and demo boardgames at conventions for a large publisher. It helped me meet a lot of fantastic people. Boardgamers are some of the coolest nerds out there.
