The Party said that Oceania had never been in alliance with Eurasia. He, Winston Smith, knew that Oceania had been in alliance with Eurasia as short a time as four years ago. But where did that knowledge exist? Only in his own consciousness, which in any case must soon be annihilated. And if all others accepted the lie which the Party imposed -if all records told the same tale -- then the lie passed into history and became truth. 'Who controls the past,' ran the Party slogan, 'controls the future: who controls the present controls the past.' And yet the past, though of its nature alterable, never had been altered. Whatever was true now was true from everlasting to everlasting. It was quite simple. All that was needed was an unending series of victories over your own memory. 'Reality control', they called it: in Newspeak, 'doublethink'

Someone has had a whinge to him about share prices.

Things are just getting started. He destabilised the region, and Iran doesn't have any reason to discipline tinge aggression now.

They can destroy a passing ship every few weeks with a $20k drone while the US spends 100s of millions a day just to be present.

Well they said the same about the Houthis

Something... something... History rhymes. My country is so fucking stupid:

[-] chahn.chris@piefed.social 55 points 3 hours ago

No kidding, my entire life all I’ve seen is republican presidents take us into stupid ass wars.

Why does anybody believe any of these people when they say they want to keep us out of wars?

[-] UnderpantsWeevil@lemmy.world 14 points 3 hours ago* (last edited 3 hours ago)

We won't be sending in ground troops this time. So there can't possibly be a quagmire like we had in Iraq or Afghanistan. And Trump promised money to any ship that gets attacked in the Straight of Hormuz (which I'm more than confident that he's good for) so trade will pick back up again as soon as the smoke clears.

Honestly, I think he did a heck of a job and I'm excited to see what kind of incredible progress he can achieve for American foreign policy in Cuba next.

[-] Sarothazrom@lemmy.world 20 points 3 hours ago

Trump promised

Got bad news for you there.

[-] NoneOfUrBusiness@fedia.io 17 points 3 hours ago

If anyone is wondering, this is sarcasm.

[-] leagman1@feddit.org 5 points 2 hours ago

Pretty obvious imo. I mean, how would a MAGA find their way intonthe fediverse. Literally impossible, hence satire.

[-] dhork@lemmy.world 23 points 3 hours ago

which I'm more than confident that he's good for

lol

"It's polling horribly and they're still talking about Epstein"

[-] Mantzy81@aussie.zone 26 points 3 hours ago

2 weeks till its done, just like healthcare, tax reform, all of his other plans etc.

[-] ClownStatue@piefed.social 5 points 2 hours ago

When everything is for show, you don’t even have to half-ass it. Some bombs were dropped, some folks died, he got to salute coffins for the camera after looking tough. Mission Accomplished, what’s next?

[-] Mantzy81@aussie.zone 4 points 2 hours ago

He wouldn't want that as that means the media going back to the (pedo)files. Time to attack Cuba.

[-] Supervisor194@lemmy.world 2 points 1 hour ago

Well fuck. I was worried it was going to drag out for far too fucking long, but now that the orange turd has said it's over I'm absolutely certain it's going to drag out for far too fucking long.

[-] daychilde@lemmy.world 3 points 1 hour ago

So what did we accomplish?

…What did we go in to accomplish, for that matter?

I'm not talking about distractions, that's fine to discuss, but as far as I'm aware, I've not heard any justification for why we went in and that we've reached any objectives.

[-] YellowParenti@lemmy.wtf 5 points 1 hour ago

The new guy elected is somehow even more of a hardliner and I've read he definitely wants nukes. So we got iran to commit to nukes probably. Plus, we saw how well America has adapted to drone warfare. So, yay? What's a couple dozen billion dollars to military industry friends, some combat experience, some dead americans, and destabilizing the world economy?

[-] AngryRedHerring@lemmy.world 1 points 41 minutes ago

Why, Iran was mere seconds away from having a nuclear bomb!

[-] fizzle@quokk.au 3 points 1 hour ago

A really salient point. What is the purported reason for this war?

As a not-american im really, really sick of this shit. Im on the other side of the world, we have a stable democracy and elected a centre left government.

Yet, fuel prices have jumped, inflation to follow, and yesterday I learned that fuel shortages are a very real possibility.

Additionally theyre talking about deploying our troops to the region, which will probably include my nephew.

While i understand that not all americans are at fault, and some of you have even been doing your best, as a nation I... dislike you immensely.

[-] daychilde@lemmy.world 2 points 1 hour ago

As a nation, I dislike us immensely as well. :|

[-] vaultdweller013@sh.itjust.works 1 points 27 minutes ago

Well that's pretty fucken reasonable since the US is almost by definition not a nation. It's a civic empire containing a multitude of nations, not too dissimilar to the Roman Empire.

[-] GameOverFlow@lemmy.zip 54 points 4 hours ago

So he has reached all his goals? Or did he forgett what he wanted to do? What is now with the eppstein files?

[-] zd9@lemmy.world 7 points 2 hours ago

His goal is to foment Iranian terrorist cells to attack on US soil, thus giving the pretext this regime was looking for to institute martial law or cancel midterms all together.

Also his other goal was to do anything Israel wanted so they don't release all the kompromat of Trump raping children.

[-] chahn.chris@piefed.social 7 points 3 hours ago

If you have no goals, it’s just the lols you make along the way!

"We have a plan that I think is going to be fantastic. It’s going to be released fairly soon."

[-] lemmyng@piefed.ca 8 points 3 hours ago

So now it's a war after all?

[-] dhork@lemmy.world 14 points 3 hours ago

“They’ve shot everything they have to shoot, and they better not try anything cute or it’s going to be the end of that country.”

He's gonna nuke them, isn't he?

[-] Town@lemmy.zip 9 points 3 hours ago

Why wouldn't he? Might makes right in his mind, and he is happy to use the unbridled power to reshape the world.

[-] foodandart@lemmy.zip 9 points 3 hours ago

Someone needs to start the rumor on "Truth" that nukes will make the oil and the gasoline processed from it radioactive and kill Americans at the pump!

He believed "..they are eating the dogs and the cats!.."

[-] marine_mustang@sh.itjust.works 3 points 2 hours ago

The problem with that is it has to be something that aligns with and reinforces his world view.

[-] foodandart@lemmy.zip 1 points 2 hours ago

Hmmmm. Will have to suss out the angle for that then.

[-] cmbabul@lemmy.world 1 points 2 hours ago

That might not even be untrue, the US government poisoned natural gas reserves with nukes before, why not again!

[-] foodandart@lemmy.zip 2 points 1 hour ago

!!!

I shall look this one up!

[-] AmazingSUPERG@thelemmy.club 2 points 2 hours ago

Now that this war is gonna wrap up according to Trump he can just go next door and fix Afghanistan and Pakistan. Afterall he is in the area. /s
