We dont need AI.
We need fucking RAM for everyone

AI can't handle a damn thing, it's useless as an actual assistant. Drives me nuts that Google is kneecapping Assistant (which worked even offline) for a dumpster fire of a replacement that fucks up with things as simple as setting a timer (which it requires an Internet connection to do for some spectacularly stupid reason).
This irks me so much. The Google assistant worked, was simple, and only relayed what was needed. This was peak "AI" or whatever you want to call it.
They forced gemini by default and it's constantly saying it doesn't have permission, it doesn't know how to do this yet, and goes on for a paragraph or two for the simplest query.
"Set timer for 5 minutes."
writes you a poorly informed thesis on timers
Literally what it was doing to me a couple of hours ago.
I wanted a sample QR code image to toss into a mock-up, and the first thing that popped up was the "AI answer" telling me about different places I could get a QR code, and I'm like bro, I'm already on a search engine, there's an 'images' tab right there, which contains what I'm looking for.
You mean any task? I don't want ai on my phone at all.
Can I use AI to uninstall AI tools?
Galaxy AI will hold your dick while you pee.
I don't need your artificial intelligence, I have homegrown intelligence, and it runs on chicken breasts and rice instead of coal.
You should toss some broccoli in there, just saying.
I don't understand why they keep adding AI crap to everything. There can't be a huge market of people who want it. It's incredibly expensive to develop and run. Just from an economics point of view it doesn't add up.
Is it just the corporate equivalent of FOMO? Wouldn't it make more economic sense for them to release a base device that is capable of having AI apps/agents installed if and when the consumer wants it, rather than defaulting to it? Or are they so tightly bound in their own bubble that they don't see the problem?
It's like basic economic theory, has been thrown out the window; along with common sense.
You best start believing in techno-fascist dystopias; you’re in one
I understand exactly why they keep adding it. They have put all of their eggs in the AI basket. Have seen that it is not profitable and the only way they can hope to make it look profitable and keep the bubble afloat is by forcing it on users to inflate usage metrics
Brother, it’s way more insidious than “we got egg on our face”
I always have to cringe really hard when reading the term agentic AI
Make an AI that can blow me while I handle my own tasks I'll reconsider my opinion on AI.
It’ll blow over. Remember when the hot new thing was voice controlled assistants - that didn’t happen either.
Kind of hard for it to blow over when they’re making all but the most locked down dumb terminals unaffordable and all commercial software is cramming it in.
I swear no one is paying attention to why this shit is different. This isn’t some fad, this is a coordinated attack on personal computing, and therefore on freedom in the digital age.
It all costs money, so if people don’t use it it’ll end up like 3D TV, VR, 8 track tape, voice assistants etc - all these things were going to change the world, but ended up being used where they were useful (and people were prepared to pay for it) - withering everywhere else. AI will be the same - mostly behind the scenes I suspect
How lazy do these mother fuckers think we are?
Samsung has been DRM'd user-hostile and property-rights-hostile garbage for a while now. Forcing "AI" down your throat is just par for the course.
After one UI 8, all of there devices are boot loader locked with no way to unlock them anymore.
Not mentioning the feature they remove from budget devices each major update.
Before, I was able to record using game booster, now after the one ui 7 update, it no longer
My next phone would be anything that graphene OS supports.
Dear peon: yes you do, and you need to pay for it too
The main reason why I'm still hanging on to my Galaxy S9+. My partner recently got a newer/refurb Samsung and it's insane the amount of bloatware and AI and "features" that can't be turned off just gets shoved in every phone post 2022. It'll be a sad day when my banking app stops working on this phone for good.
"We did it, Patrick! We made a technological breakthrough!"
A place for all those who loathe AI to discuss things, post articles, and ridicule the AI hype. Proud supporter of working people. And proud booer of SXSW 2024.
AI, in this case, refers to LLMs, GPT technology, and anything listed as "AI" meant to increase market valuations.
