Saw one of them wave when they were setting up and was like oh shit those are people, but then they didn’t move at all after that. Wild. I imagine it made getting the set on the field and setup/takedown easier

[-] jqubed@lemmy.world 42 points 3 months ago

I kept expecting them to dance and was shocked it never happened

[-] LePoisson@lemmy.world 21 points 3 months ago

I thought the exact same thing! I expected at one point, with all the excellent choreography happening, that the bushes were for sure going to get involved in the dancing.

I don't speak Spanish so I didn't understand what bad bunny was singing but that show was still awesome to watch. The people hating on it must be such losers in real life.

[-] Corkyskog@sh.itjust.works 17 points 3 months ago

Don't worry, even if you do know Spanish you won't know what he is singing. I like him, but kind of does this mumble thing in most songs.

“God Bless America — all of America

A quick Spanish lesson, first: If you’re talking about US citizens, you might think that “americano” is the direct translation. It’s actually “estadounidense” (literally United States-ian). Anyway, my point here is that “americano” encompasses all of the Americas. Bad Bunny closed his performance with a shoutout to all of the Americas, from Chile to Canada, and a procession of flags. On the jumbotron behind him, a simple message shone: “The only thing more powerful than hate is love.” “

Sarge, the shrubbery is speaking Puerto Rican!

[-] Hjalamanger@feddit.nu 18 points 3 months ago

What is this? Do I want to know?

What does American football have to do with living bushes?

[-] 3rdXthecharm@lemmy.ml 19 points 3 months ago

I think this is a picture from their Halftime celebration during the super bowl. They do a musical performance on the field and then it gets cleaned up quickly for the game to resume after

[-] Turret3857@infosec.pub 5 points 3 months ago

The Bad Bunny halftime show. In American football there are usually shows at half time. In high schools and colleges its usually marching bands. At the super bowl, its pop stars. The Super Bowl half time show is usually criticized by republicans because pop culture tends to have a left leaning bias. Last year was Kendrick Lamar.

[-] SlurpingPus@lemmy.world 6 points 3 months ago

As an outsider, I'm impressed that the NFL somehow managed to troll people with the show for two years in a row. It would be super easy to choose someone inoffensive. Didn't expect the handegg organization, of all people, to be leftist in any way (by US standards).

[-] Turret3857@infosec.pub 9 points 3 months ago

I dont think its the NFL trolling as much as it is that the market analysts believe the people they are picking will drum up publicity for the show.

[-] Alchalide@lemmy.world 10 points 3 months ago

I don't think anybody outside the US has ever been or ever will be interested in anything superbowl related.

[-] youCanCallMeDragon@lemmy.world 26 points 3 months ago

Not everything that occurs in the US needs to exist for global appeal.

[-] tomiant@piefed.social 4 points 3 months ago

In fact, basically nothing that occurs in the US has global appeal.

[-] butwhyishischinabook@piefed.social 6 points 3 months ago* (last edited 3 months ago)

And even if it's literally just a single game played in the US, you can bet your firstborn that a certain type of Lemming will incessantly bitch about it anyway.

[-] Salamanderwizard@lemmy.world 20 points 3 months ago* (last edited 3 months ago)

You're talking out of your ass. I get our football might not be your taste, but a lot of folks from all over the world do like it. I was in a clan where a lot of folks outside of the U.S. were in. We had a channel set up on teamspeak that would make a sub channel when the superbowl was on. Had some Swedish dudes, Brazilian dudes, and even 1 Japanese dude.

It was a good way for us all to come together and have fun over something.

[-] tomiant@piefed.social 2 points 3 months ago

You were in a clan, you say?

[-] Salamanderwizard@lemmy.world 3 points 3 months ago

Ha, but no. A gaming clan. I already got enough family that's hateful...I wouldn't want anything to do with the klan.

[-] Hossenfeffer@feddit.uk 15 points 3 months ago

I am not in, or from, the US and have watched the Super Bowl pretty much every year since 1984.

[-] tomiant@piefed.social 3 points 3 months ago

You are likely in an extreme minority across the world.

[-] Hossenfeffer@feddit.uk 7 points 3 months ago

I mean, out of 8.3 billion people, sure, I'm in a minority, but so are Americans. Like everyone in America is 4% of the global population and I know some people were tuning into that Kid Rock thing instead.

[-] Contentedness@lemmy.nz 11 points 3 months ago

That's just flat out wrong. Plenty of bars and pubs have Superbowl events here in Melbourne. In the US it's Superbowl Sunday but what with time difference the game is actually played here around midday on a Monday, so many bars open specially for the game. They have chicken wing food specials and decorations and things.

If I'm being totally honest I think some of the popularity might be that it gives people an excuse to take a day off work and go to the pub first thing on a Monday, but everyone has a good time.

Even people who don't go to events and don't care about the football will look up the halftime show on YouTube or whatever, especially last year when Kendrick Lamar played, or the Xmas game where Beyonce did a halftime show.

[-] Gathorall@lemmy.world 1 points 3 months ago

Career alcoholics don't count, they make an excuse out of anything.

[-] flambonkscious@sh.itjust.works 4 points 3 months ago

I concur. Good to see there's a few exceptions (the other comments - glad they're all just having fun) but the exporting of American culture is sickening

[-] null@piefed.nullspace.lol 2 points 3 months ago

Lmao what a dumb thing to think

[-] Photonic@lemmy.world 9 points 3 months ago

They’re decoys for the real George W.
