Seriously, the map was showing a separate entity roaming through the maze.

I remember when screen savers used to be cool

I remember one with toilets I guess. Oh and the bad dog one that defaced the desktop was really cool too!

[-] LemmyFeed@lemmy.dbzer0.com 1 points 1 month ago

Oh yeah loved that bad dog one!

[-] jqubed@lemmy.world 20 points 1 month ago

I always loved Particle Fire; I actually bought it with a postal money order as a teenager. The company released it under the GPL at some point a few years ago. Maybe someday I’ll be able to use it again on other systems!

I forgot that existed. Beautiful.

[-] Bosht@lemmy.world 3 points 1 month ago

Man I remember playing with the settings on a similar if not the same screensaver for HOURS.

I remember when screensavers were a whole subculture within my friend group haha. Bad dog was one of the best.

OMG it's got a teapot in it! We're all gonna die!!!!!!

[-] ddssazsa@piefed.social 2 points 4 weeks ago

Seriously? That thing on a map was just the standard test 3d teapot?

[-] ExLisper@lemmy.curiana.net 10 points 1 month ago

How did they take the screenshot?

[-] ddssazsa@piefed.social 10 points 1 month ago

In this age probably Win 98 was running inside a VM?

Hold the CD tray eject button while holding the power button

[-] gustofwind@lemmy.world 8 points 1 month ago

Oh hey, it's the alien that spontaneously generates or something in that one star trek episode!

(I know it's just that screensaver but it reminds me of that alien too)

[-] Maven@piefed.zip 5 points 1 month ago

I used to use this exact same screensaver. Thats fantastic.

[-] titanicx@lemmy.zip 5 points 1 month ago

This is simply AI trying to escape The matrix. There's no worries please look away comrade.

[-] hector@lemmy.today 3 points 1 month ago

Is that thing drawing a geometric structure on your screen? Because that's not that impressive. AI has real dangers, or what we are calling AI, which is not the AI that could be, LLM's are a lot less than we are led to believe. But they are good at sorting through data and pulling out like terms.

And even if they aren't good at it, our leaders think they are good at it, and will task their half baked Palantir operations to give us secret social scores to decide everything about how we are treated in business and government, without us knowing, or being able to challenge it.

Naturally the people setting it up will leave a way for them, and connected individuals, to put the names of people they don't like into the fuck you list for the program to score badly. That goes without saying really.

Sir this is a Wendy's/it is a screensaver from 1995

[-] hector@lemmy.today 3 points 1 month ago

Can I ask what is that sir this is a wendy's from? Because I see that everywhere but don't know the reference.

Interesting thanks, so The Office seems to be mostly the genesis of the joke when Michael is given list of woman to call for a date and calls a girl called wendy and it's a wendy's restaurant. Which is mildly funny sort of.
