Token changes to mollify people. Don’t slow down.

[-] lolo@sh.itjust.works 61 points 1 month ago

100%. This is the beginning. We will NEVER forget.

New scapegoat incoming.

[-] criss_cross@lemmy.world 16 points 1 month ago

This is the first time in a while this admin has thrown a scapegoat out instead of just puffing up their chest and saying “nah”.

It’s not much but it shows the pressure IS working. Keep going.

Now what kind of material did Nat Geo have in their magazines he might have found arousing, I wonder?

[-] vaultdweller013@sh.itjust.works 38 points 1 month ago

As someone who hit puberty at 8 and had to get creative with my fap material. Nat Geo has a surprising amount of tits.

[-] Thedogdrinkscoffee@lemmy.ca 29 points 1 month ago

You like tits?

I won't judge your kink.

[-] vaultdweller013@sh.itjust.works 10 points 1 month ago

Fucken knew someone was gonna post this. I am happy that you did.

[-] lemming741@lemmy.world 8 points 1 month ago

That's a nice pair

[-] KingOfSleep@lemmy.ca 89 points 1 month ago

Good. Now try him for his crimes.

Gregory Bovino has been removed from his role as Border Patrol “commander at large” and will return to his former job in El Centro, California, where he is expected to retire soon, according to a DHS official and two people with knowledge of the change

So he gets a nice comfy retirement

Bovino’s sudden demotion is the clearest sign yet that the Trump administration is reconsidering its most aggressive tactics after the killing Saturday of 37-year-old Alex Pretti by Border Patrol agents under Bovino’s command.

Lol. No.

[-] witten@lemmy.world 31 points 1 month ago

I mean, aren't they? It's not like they've suddenly decided these tactics are morally wrong or anything, because that would imply they have morals. Rather, they see the rest of the GOP starting to turn on them as a result of these murders in Minneapolis, and so they're responding to the only thing they actually understand—the potential loss of power.

[-] Zaktor@sopuli.xyz 34 points 1 month ago

He's getting fired because he flubbed the PR. Their lies were too audacious and too easily disproven to be fully accepted at desired numbers within their base. Steven Miller is reportedly one of his main detractors.

He needs to retire into a prison cell.

[-] Solrac@lemmy.world 23 points 1 month ago

Solitary confinement

[-] kurmudgeon@lemmy.world 23 points 1 month ago
[-] Thedogdrinkscoffee@lemmy.ca 14 points 1 month ago

Firing squad would be more poetic, no?

[-] Tonava@sopuli.xyz 6 points 1 month ago

Hanging is the more shameful way that's for common criminals. That's why nazis were hanged and not given firing squads

Ironically, NPH is the Nazi in that movie. They even wear the same coat.

[-] phx@lemmy.world 24 points 1 month ago

The symbolism in the movie is apparently in contrast to the book, which glorified war and the human side. The director decided to take it another direction and it was a fucking great decision

[-] LH0ezVT@sh.itjust.works 8 points 1 month ago

I have to admit, the book makes a great argument for "fascism" / military meritocracy, plus it's just a easy to read action book.

I still think the argument is very flawed, and it's a good thing that Heinlein (iirc) never had children to raise.

But do read it, it's a decent book with an interesting argument.

[-] I_Clean_Here@lemmy.ml 13 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago)

The book itself does not glorify fascism but rather shows a fascist future human society. Heinlein wasn't a fucking a Nazi and the "allure" of this weird future fascism is the point on which the reader is supposed to reflect.

[-] LH0ezVT@sh.itjust.works 6 points 1 month ago

First: The book does not glorify historically existing fascism, no.

But I believe that it is at least a half-serious argument, that Heinlein actually believes that a society like the one in the book wouldn't be the worst.

I don't believe that Heinlein supported racism or the oppression of "lesser" people. He made that point pretty clear, in interviews, life choices, other stories or by famously revealing (iirc) that Ricoh was brown-skinned.

But the militarism, united humanity in a hostile universe, the weird ideas about authority and merit, and the per aspera ad astra part? I do believe that he's at least in part making a sincere argument, wrapped in an action story as a vehicle. The world he creates resonates too well with Heinlein's biography, imho.

[-] JcbAzPx@lemmy.world 6 points 1 month ago

Yeah, it is trying to show that a united authoritarian Earth could work if we have aliens around to be the enemy 'other'.

Personally, I prefer the movie's take on it.

the first scapegoat.

I kinda suspect that the administration was told or it was heavily suggested by higher ups in the military that "yeah...if you go with this insurrection act we're not going to have your backs on this one." Otherwise why would they be throwing Bovino under the bus for this?

What has happened thus far is apparently what they wanted according to project 25 but like I said I suspect they don't have the support of the people they NEED the support from.

[-] dejected_warp_core@lemmy.world 12 points 1 month ago

It would be nothing short of miraculous if that plan falls through just because it became wildly unpopular. This brings two things to mind:

  1. It would explain why there's a phased rollout of worse and worse policy with a lot of improv along the way. Otherwise, all this shit would "just happen" inside the first year.

  2. It's not hard to imagine these asswipes acting in a retaliatory manner for not getting their way. But what's worse is to imagine a failing MAGA or P2025 cabal "going for broke" if it appears they're all but finished, should we get there. IMO, we should all be prepared for both.

[-] asg101 49 points 1 month ago

Should be sent directly to The Hague, do not pass Go.

[-] meh@piefed.blahaj.zone 46 points 1 month ago

peak of his career really did turn out to be prancing around at a few gas stations in an ugly coat trying to look tough.

time for more local organizing while they try a new tactic.

[-] BarneyPiccolo@lemmy.today 9 points 1 month ago

Then I heard him on TV, trying to sound tough with a voice like a cartoon character. These guys really have a weird vision of who is cool or scary. Stephen PeeWee Himmler Miller thinks he sounds tough, and he always sounds like a screeching weenie. I guess this is what a tough guy looks like to him.

[-] almost1337@lemmy.zip 34 points 1 month ago

Governor Tim Walz—whom the White House has blamed for inciting violence—and the two men are now on “a similar wavelength.”

Once again, he just goes along with whomever he spoke with last

[-] Corngood@lemmy.ml 14 points 1 month ago

Unfortunately Walz asked him to fire this guy when he could have asked him to behead Stephen Miller.

[-] someguy3@lemmy.world 32 points 1 month ago

To be replaced by someone just as bad I'm sure.

[-] CharlesDarwin@lemmy.world 28 points 1 month ago

I sure hope they don't let these characters just slink off into the shadows, never to face any consequences whatsoever.

[-] BarneyPiccolo@lemmy.today 14 points 1 month ago

That's why you carve a Swastika on the their foreheads.

[-] SlippiHUD@lemmy.world 27 points 1 month ago

I think minnesota could probably get him on some form of Dereliction of Duty/RICO and throw in felony murder.

[-] hector@lemmy.today 10 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago)

Accessory after the fact. Grab his ass in a blue state, send him back to mn, in an unmarked car.

The way responsibility has been diffused throughout the command structure is exactly what RICO is for. That said, I don't think it's ever been used on a Federal agency before.

[-] kreskin@lemmy.world 25 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago)

I hope he retires and tries to live out in the general public. Lets see him try to go to the grocery store or eat in a restaurant. At minimum he'll have spit in all his food for the rest of his dumbass life, assuming he doesnt end up in prison for his civil rights crimes under color of law.

[-] eestileib 24 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago)

Twin Cities are creating a legend for themselves. Incredible resistance.

[-] BarneyPiccolo@lemmy.today 6 points 1 month ago

The Freedom Capital of America.

[-] Hypnotoad_@sh.itjust.works 20 points 1 month ago

Bye 👋

We'll always remember you unfondly. Hope whoever they replace you with isn't somehow fucking worse

[-] radiouser@crazypeople.online 14 points 1 month ago

Nice comfy retirement for him now.

He barely had time for one photo op though. Gestapo Greg was looking forward to lowering the bar even more so he can reach it.

Hopefully he downloaded the Epstein files on the way out
