There is a lot of it also in a Black Mirror Episode - USS Calllister.

I think it is also the only episode with two parts.

There is also the show "Upload" which is about a digital afterlife once you die.

Well worth a read, especially if you like Andy Weir.

It is the 41st Millennium. For more than a hundred centuries the Emperor of X has sat immobile inside a golden circuit board. He is the master of no one by the will of The Coders and slave to a million teenagers by the might of file sharing. He is a rotting set of bits writhing invisibly with power from the Dark Age of Techbros. He is the Carrion Lord of the vast Imperium of The Sims whose soul is tormented a thousand times every day so that He may never truly die.

I'd put them into a boilerplate game where there is just a green floor and blue sky and 1 skeleton that doesn't do anything but you can hit it.

given how simple the simulation is you can make it run faster, one hour of your time is a month for them. let's see how they handle years of isolation

[-] Valmond@lemmy.world 1 points 1 day ago

I bet you can run a simulation way faster than a meat computer. Like millions of times faster.

that really depends on the hardware, currently? I doubt it,

[-] Valmond@lemmy.world 1 points 1 day ago

Hardware in 2050 of course!

The whole Moore limit seems to be tapering out though. and with everything getting enshitified assuming that future hardware would be orders of magnitude more powerful than what we have now is no longer a given.

[-] theuniqueone@lemmy.dbzer0.com 13 points 2 days ago

Wow sims 4 really had a long life.

[-] Psythik@lemmy.world 7 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago)

It's still being supported, but who knows for how much longer after the Saudi/Trump buyout. It's most definitely going to be the last Sims game as EA gets hacked apart and gutted for profit in the coming months.

Put them in Soma.

If you know, you know.

I almost immediately Ctrl+F "Soma" as soon as I read the title

"And there, you are all in the pool. Now if I remove..."

[-] EnsignWashout@startrek.website 11 points 2 days ago

I mean, I would.

Of course, the pool won't have a ladder...

Thanks for the reminder to never, ever do something like this. My consciousness dies with me.

[-] hansolo@lemmy.today 15 points 2 days ago

This is what 99% of the "cameos" are on Sora. The 1% that aren't Sam Altman doing weird shit are posted by his staff.

Pretty optimistic to think we'll be able to upload and downloaded consciousness in the next 25 years.

If even possible, it'd be centuries. Chances are everyone alive today will go the same route as every other human who has ever lived.
