Even as he cast ballots by mail himself and launched messaging campaigns encouraging his supporters to do the same, Donald Trump has repeatedly threatened to eliminate mail-in voting altogether, baselessly casting doubt on the legitimacy of mail-in votes.

Now he appears to be calling for the end of all forms of early voting.

After publicly demanding the prosecution of his political enemies, Trump encouraged the Department of Justice to investigate the outcome of the 2020 presidential election with “gusto” — and signaled that the “biggest SCANDAL in American history” will “happen again” unless the government eliminates early voting.

Wait, wait.. which assholes are we talking about?

[-] FenrirIII@lemmy.world 10 points 3 days ago

Republican-run states will cave

[-] RestrictedAccount@lemmy.world 7 points 2 days ago

Good.

This is an old talking point from when conservatives were younger and healthier.

This is cutting their own throats because the Fox News set is getting old AF and tend to vote early and by mail.

Being against having many options to let your vote be heard is very anti-American.

So super on-brand for Trump

[-] Rhaedas@fedia.io 21 points 3 days ago

And many/most Republicans. Gerrymandering, limited voting areas, and intimidation at the poll are standard tactics to try and reduce people who might vote against them.

To be fair, Democrats have gerrymandered in history as well. District lines should be an independent determination, not by who is currently in control of a state government.

I've talked to enough republicans to understand their problem with the 2 party system is that there's too many parties.

This is the level of stupidity we need to be at to get the brainwashed masses to understand what he’s actually doing. Yes, Trump, your messiah, is anti-American and pro billionaires. He doesn’t care about babies or you.

My fear is to is to have a single day election they could use national guard or something on blue counties to make it much harder to vote, like make special operations on the day of election and create grid locks on that counties.

[-] Throbbing_banjo@lemmy.dbzer0.com 12 points 2 days ago

They also want people to only be able to vote on Dominion voting machines, which are coincidentally owned and controlled by a Republican donor/operative.

So rest assured, no tomfoolery there.

[-] sturmblast@lemmy.world 9 points 2 days ago

He doesn't know that STATES RUN THEIR OWN ELECTIONS apparently. Moron.

[-] Almacca@aussie.zone 39 points 3 days ago

The coward really can't stand the thought of a fair contest, can he?

[-] Darleys_Brew@lemmy.ml 13 points 2 days ago

To him, fair is him getting his way.

[-] jaggedrobotpubes@lemmy.world 6 points 2 days ago

Yes we all know he's a bitch who's wrong about everything.

[-] buttnugget@lemmy.world 9 points 3 days ago

He can’t stand the thought of traitor lunatics losing. That seems to be all he cares about.

[-] rayyy@piefed.social 15 points 2 days ago

Probably wants all votes on one day to better rig the elections.

[-] Nalivai@lemmy.world 10 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago)

A bunch of people who will be voting against him are working class, and the insane US system is rigged against the working class so much, people can't get a time off of their jobs to go vote.

[-] Leather@lemmy.world 41 points 3 days ago

No early voting! No late voting! No mail-in voting! No black voting! No gay voting! No brown voting! No veterans voting!

Fuck it, only JD Vance votes! Unless he votes for himself, and then it's massive voter fraud!

[-] Master167@lemmy.world 57 points 3 days ago

Sure thing. Make election day a federal holiday and allow for mail in ballots.

[-] PeacefulForest@lemmy.world 28 points 3 days ago

Making Election Day a federal holiday makes so much sense. This is one example of the U.S. being ran by clown the entire time.

[-] iAmTheTot@sh.itjust.works 21 points 3 days ago

Honestly I never understood the push for this. Maybe it's because I grew up around people who never had federal holidays off. Tons of people still need to work on federal holidays. What makes way more sense to me would be not having a single "Election Day." Make it Election Week, everywhere, all the time.

[-] frongt@lemmy.zip 14 points 3 days ago

Yeah there's no point. Just make all elections mail-in, then people can vote at their convenience.

[-] PeacefulForest@lemmy.world 5 points 3 days ago

That’s also a good idea. However, election week equals more workers. Not necessarily a bad thing, just something to consider.

Overall options to consider:

  • Election week
  • Federal holiday
  • mail-in-ballots
[-] CharlesDarwin@lemmy.world 5 points 3 days ago

All of the above.

Colorado has early voting, mail-in voting, and places to drop off your filled-out ballot.

It's absolutely beautiful.

If you want to stand in-line the day of, you can do that, too. I've done that a few times, many years ago, and I think my longest wait was maybe 15 minutes, but that was out in the burbs, too.

What I hate so very much is that there is even a chance this asshole's wishes have influence on how we conduct elections anywhere in this country.

He can go fuck himself.

[-] Fredthefishlord 9 points 3 days ago

People, whoever can. Please don't mail in vote if possible. They're sabotaging mail in voting by hurting the post office and sometimes the mail itself. If you can, vote in person

[-] BlameTheAntifa@lemmy.world 21 points 3 days ago

California has very good tools for tracking the status of your ballots. The USPS is also independently funded as a Constitutionally guaranteed service, so it’s relatively safe.

The reason they want to end mail-in and early voting is because it allows them to restrict access, intimidate voters, tamper with equipment, lose ballots, and all manner of other crimes. All voting should be done by mail as it limits their opportunities for engaging in fraud and crime. There is a reason they have been attacking it.

[-] krooklochurm@lemmy.ca 6 points 2 days ago

Oh sure, the constitution, that is totally meaningful. Yep. The Trump administration would never violate the constitution.

I opt for the mail-in ballot and then drop it off at my county auditor in-person.

[-] BananaIsABerry@lemmy.zip 4 points 2 days ago

"People don't even use the mail in voting anymore, we might as well get rid of it."

[-] undefined@lemmy.hogru.ch 8 points 3 days ago

I’ve filled out my mail-in ballot but I’m seriously considering physically voting on November 4th instead of mailing it in.

As a white California resident I don’t feel I’ll be targeted by the racist “watchers” but I am worried about my mail-in vote being nullified.

Probably better for don to keep it shut.

[-] Gerudo@lemmy.zip 8 points 3 days ago

No mail in votes? That means your increasing access to in person voting, right? RIGHT!?

[-] Witchfire@lemmy.world 10 points 3 days ago

Correct, but only in predominately white and racist areas. Everyone else gets fucked

The 2020 election claims are how they intend on pushing the third term shit.

[-] ysjet@lemmy.world 6 points 3 days ago

He can demand all he wants, the federal government doesn't get to decide how elections work.

[-] cv_octavio@piefed.ca 1 points 2 days ago
[-] porksnort@slrpnk.net 6 points 3 days ago

It is easier to intimidate voters when they gather in one place on one day. It’s just good time management!

🤮(these fucking people..)

[-] PattyMcB@lemmy.world 5 points 3 days ago

Fuck that guy.
