A new photo showing the partially demolished East Wing of the White House began circulating widely on social media Monday afternoon, as plans move forward for Donald Trump's new $250 million ballroom.

The Washington Post first reported the news of the demolition, saying that constructions crews were using a backhoe to rip through and demolish a portion of the White House's East Wing. The publication included a photo with its report, which was quickly shared by social media users, some of whom used the image to criticize the president.

"Donald Trump is now officially demolishing part of the White House to make room for his $200 million golden ballroom. This comes as Americans can’t afford groceries and the government is still shut down," podcaster Bryan Tyler Cohen wrote on X, sharing the photo.

Man what better symbolism for his presidency than that image right there. Wow.

[-] Hideakikarate@sh.itjust.works 96 points 1 month ago

I was always partial to this one.

[-] CatZoomies@lemmy.world 47 points 1 month ago

This one along with the diversity wall mural at the FBI being painted over with gray paint.

[-] wheezy@lemmy.ml 10 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago)

Should replace it with a mural of all the minority leaders the FBI killed throughout the years. Would be a more accurate representation of what they do.

I am genuinely shocked at little these days.

I am absolutely floored that Trump, of all people didn't devise a way to sell tiny little bits of the East Wing to MAGA chuds for $4700 an ounce.

Like, you want a cognitive test he just failed? A pure gold grift just passed him by. Someone call a doctor, he's not doing OK.

Get your ground up White House dust! It cures what ails you.

He'll almost certainly be selling access to the new east wing, so I guess there's that.

[-] DarkDecay@lemmy.world 91 points 1 month ago

No money for health care but here's 40 billion for Argentina and a 250 million dollar ballroom for my rich knob gobbling friends. Trumps fucking america hard

[-] desmosthenes@lemmy.world 33 points 1 month ago

and two private jets for my terrorizer in chief and one for me

[-] CharlesDarwin@lemmy.world 6 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago)

And he's suing to have the DOJ give him a handout of $230 million in our money.

[-] Tollana1234567@lemmy.today 4 points 1 month ago

40 billion actually is bailing out usa investors in argenitina, milei gets some of that money to stay quiet on the issue. i believe the investors are associated with BESSENET.

[-] DarkDecay@lemmy.world 1 points 1 month ago

Either way it's unfortunate for everyone in america that could use the help

Has any reporter asked if they are union workers?

[-] curbstickle@anarchist.nexus 11 points 1 month ago

Government work operates on prevailing wage, can't specify union or not.

Whether or not they abided by this requirement I couldn't say.

[-] Brown5500@sh.itjust.works 9 points 1 month ago

Nothing says "america first" any better than a Swedish excavator dismantling the white house

[-] Furbag@lemmy.world 53 points 1 month ago

Does demolishing a 120+ year old historical building to replace it with a gold-plated ballroom sound like the actions of a man who intends to leave office in 3 years time?

[-] barnaclebutt@lemmy.world 47 points 1 month ago

Yeah. Fuck you poor people. Thanks for the votes, but you're too stupid to see that we were going to fuck you in every way possible while enriching ourselves. Tacky bullshit for the ruling Nazis!

[-] KarlHungus42@lemmy.world 47 points 1 month ago

A picture is worth a thousand words, and this image pretty much encapsulates his entire time in power.

Fucking clown cunt.

[-] MagicShel@lemmy.zip 10 points 1 month ago

Could use a couple of rusted-out cars on the lawn.

[-] Thrife@feddit.org 39 points 1 month ago

Wait! Your government is still shut down?! That's four weeks now, isn't it?

[-] relativestranger@feddit.nl 26 points 1 month ago

entering the 4th week. yea.

[-] BeefandSquints@lemmy.dbzer0.com 12 points 1 month ago

Trump was going to spend this four year stretch hurting everyone who isn't an obese weirdo with a bucket of orange paint, this is nothing compared to his true dreams.

[-] Tollana1234567@lemmy.today 1 points 1 month ago

and also trying to stretch any conflict to distract from the epstein files too, and yes we know the BBB is also being distracted from. hes most bothered by the epstein files than anything.

[-] BeefandSquints@lemmy.dbzer0.com 1 points 1 month ago

I agree with all of that!

[-] ayyy@sh.itjust.works 6 points 1 month ago

I just got an urgent text from my local food bank because they’re failing to keep up with all the demand from federal employees. This country is completely fucked.

It's official, he has destroyed every aspect of being a US citizen. He has stuck his pedo dick in every pot.

[-] CharlesDarwin@lemmy.world 4 points 1 month ago

Maybe he'll get around to messing with the Statue of Liberty, too. Give her some real big bazongas.

"Donald Trump is now officially demolishing part of the White House to make room for his $200 million golden ballroom. This comes as Americans can’t afford groceries and the government is still shut down,"

This kind of overt and vain corruption will not go down well in other countries. This alone should cause mass riots and demonstrations. I guess Americans are still getting used to dealing with autocracies.

[-] Sundiata@lemmy.world 7 points 1 month ago

we're long overdue for the one piece pirate flag

[-] sturmblast@lemmy.world 15 points 1 month ago

This guy has no respect for anything.

[-] yarr@feddit.nl 15 points 1 month ago

Don't worry guys, even though Donald Trump promised to get consumer costs under control on DAY ONE he still has huge throngs of apologists saying "Rome wasn't built in a day!" "You think you can fix this much stuff Biden broke so quickly?" "Actually, things ARE fixed already!"

For a con-man to flourish, he requires a steady stream of gullible people. Our country has a surplus and more are being manufactured every day. You might say ignorance is our #1 export.

[-] CharlesDarwin@lemmy.world 2 points 1 month ago

We had an economy that was "the envy of the world" this time last year. And a whole lot of idiots were convinced it was akin to the Great Depression or something.

And so many sat out or voted third party or voted for the pedo-in-chief. Given the way this dumbass and his pals are sitting around and self-dealing and fiddling while they cause cities to erupt in chaos, I think we might just find out how bad everything, including the economy, can really get.

[-] Formfiller@lemmy.world 3 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago)

Working people have been suffering for a decades and wealth inequality keeps skyrocketing. Homelessness is skyrocketing. Healthcare is a scam. Politicians have been gaslighting us about this for years while insider trading and taking shady money from lobbyists. Just because line going up doesn’t mean shit to the overwhelming majority of us. The fact is it’s just a reflection of the blood money being squeezed out of our families future so that every last resource gets funneled up to the insatiable shareholders.

I agree that people should have voted against this but we really need accountable representatives. I don’t think we’re going to get that until the pitchforks come out.

[-] WanderWisley@lemmy.world 10 points 1 month ago

Sums up this year and this administration perfectly.

[-] NutWrench@lemmy.ml 10 points 1 month ago

This is going to be a throne room, no matter what Trump calls it publicly.

I vote for the canadians to set fire to the place again. Anyone else with me?

[-] kent_eh@lemmy.ca 2 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago)

I vote for the canadians to set fire to the place again

Sorry, as much as burning trump down in a very literal sense sounds like a good time, I'm not gonna be crossing the border until you guys fix your country.

It's your mess, you have to solve your own problems.

It’s the building on the right? It looks bigger than the actual White House

[-] SaveTheTuaHawk@lemmy.ca 3 points 1 month ago

It has a McDonald's drive thru in back.

[-] moseschrute@lemmy.world 3 points 1 month ago

Oh good. For a second I was worried

[-] Ceruleum@lemmy.wtf 2 points 1 month ago

It's 1,5 times as big as the white house ...

[-] danhab99@programming.dev 4 points 1 month ago

We only have one picture in the world wide web of this ballroom being built?????

[-] etherphon@midwest.social 3 points 1 month ago

I'm starting to think Donald took the decades of jokes about him a bit personally.

[-] Mr_Dr_Oink@lemmy.world 3 points 1 month ago
