“I know that this decision will upset many, and delight others, but in this political climate I must keep my family safe,” Douglass said, adding that his resignation will be effective Monday at noon.

Does not accept responsibility for what he said. Blames his resignation on implied fear of left-wing violence.

“Since the story broke, I have reached out to the majority of my Jewish and BIPOC friends and colleagues to ensure that they can be honest and upfront with me, and I know that as a young person I have a duty to set a good example for others.”

Pretends to take responsibility without actually taking responsibility. "I have reached out... to ensure that they can be honest and upfront with me" puts the onus on others to initiate that conversation, rather than, "I'm sorry." Followed by the neutral statement "I know I have a responsibility...", not "I was wrong."

He also really stretched in this statement to include a reference to his age in order to implicitly blame this on youthful indiscretion.

He is 27. His brain is as fully developed as it's going to get.

Can't accept real responsibility, deflects, and issues a pseudo-apology. I'm afraid the diagnosis is terminal. He's riddled with Confederatism.

He's riddled with Confederatism.

You spelled "He's a Nazi" really wrong...

There's a whole playbook about handling this stuff and never actually admitting blame. These assholes feel no shame for what they do

Oh, FUCK this guy. Pretending to be the victim here and invoking his family.

JFC.

"I will help others in my community, be active, foster communication, and look out for others,” he said."

As long as they're racially and religiously aligned with him he said with his inside voice

Probably resigning to get a job at Fox News or the White House.

"... and I know that as a young person I have a duty to set a good example for others.”

He is in his late 20s. He is not a young person, he is an adult. He's only young compared to our overly old representatives.

Interesting, was waiting to hear about this one. I'm his first statement he said something like he was going to distance himself from the group - lots of folks wondered how he was going to distance himself from his wife (who also made statements in the group).

This is as close as I can get to respecting one of these guys.

Not real respect, but an appreciation that some of them still feel a sense shame.

Maybe it isn't exactly promising, but it is a glimmering turd in a sea of shit.

Shame?

“I know that this decision will upset many, and delight others, but in this political climate I must keep my family safe,” Douglass said

He's resigning because the left is so viowent and scawy, not because he's ashamed. We'll all have forgotten his name in 2 weeks and he'll have a better job somewhere else, pulling the exact same shit.

some of them still feel a sense shame

I wish I could feel confident that this is why, but it was probably that they were told they needed to resign or they’d be fired because their involvement is bad for business.
