These charges will go nowhere. This is just so Trump can characterize his enemies as criminals.

President Donald Trump's public demand that the Justice Department move "now" to charge his political enemies

"It looks to me like [James] is very guilty of something, but I really don't know," Trump said

It's not about charges. It's about finding something that will stick and if they don't they still get to make her life hell.

You can beat the rap but you can't beat the ride.

The orange felon will absolutely treat them being charged as worse than the 34 felonies he was convicted of.

Adjudicated serial rapist, voted most accurate for inmate # P01135809, the Russian spy in the White House.

She ran a perfect DOJ and they indicted her, folks.

[-] hypna@lemmy.world 9 points 1 week ago

Looking forward to more vindictive prosecution findings.

These charges are complete bullshit but it's not a bad thing to have one political party investigate TF out of the other one and bring charges ASAP when they're in power! That's their job!

Both parties will say the other one is corrupt and oftentimes they're both right! If there's laws being violated, prosecute TF out of them as quickly as possible.

The whole concept of we're not going to investigate or bring charges against our political enemies (who have committed wrongdoing) is bullshit. The only way for "a country to heal" is to prosecute the criminals and malfeasants.

And since they're politicians serving the public, their punishments should be the max! 😤

[-] Buffalox@lemmy.world 52 points 1 week ago

Bullshit, Biden never instructed anyone to investigate and much less ordered to prosecute any republicans.

Both parties will say the other one is corrupt

False equivalence.

[-] osaerisxero@kbin.melroy.org 19 points 1 week ago

, Biden never instructed anyone to investigate and much less ordered to prosecute any republicans

This is exactly why we're in this mess in the first place

[-] Buffalox@lemmy.world 1 points 1 week ago

No it's not, he is not responsible for deciding who shall be investigated, and who goes to prison.
The responsible parties are investigators and prosecutors, that delayed prosecuting Trump for years, despite a coup attempt.

[-] prole 1 points 1 week ago

He was responsible for appointing Merrick Garland, so...

[-] Buffalox@lemmy.world 1 points 4 days ago* (last edited 4 days ago)

So... what?
I think that's a big so.. nothing. Biden never interfered in any investigations which is tradition that the president stay out of.
Trump is breaking every rule written and unwritten.

You defending Trump with a bad whataboutism example that is an obvious false equivalence is disgusting.

[-] midribbon_action 2 points 1 week ago

Yes, but then it was out of his hands.

There is no evidence of Biden directing prosecutions, and not from a lack of trying. The media and the Republican led congress looked as hard as they possibly could, but the only evidence shows the exact opposite: Biden was privately pissed off at Garland for prosecuting his son and going easy on Trump. They were not working together.

Trump is using the justice department the same way Nixon did, which, at the time, was appalling even to Republicans. We don't want all of our future presidents to be Nixons.

[-] Ava 18 points 1 week ago

You're considering it from a partisan viewpoint. Future administrations would do better to add more robust protections against this form of political intervention. The DOJ should be independent, and welcome to investigate or charge any politicians they can make a case for, past or present, regardless of which colors are hanging in the ~~halls of the great leader~~ Trump Ballroom.

Nobody is seriously saying we should never prosecute a political opponent. They're saying that political opponents shouldn't be charged by partisan actors.

Something smells trumpy in here

[-] dylanmorgan@slrpnk.net 2 points 1 week ago

I think part of being president, or part of a presidential administration, should be a vigorous investigation after the president’s term is over. Regardless of party. And people should be held rigorously accountable for their actions while in power.

Oh look, weaponization of government. Huh.
