Edit: This is obviously hilariously wrong.

This, but also isn't that how genetics works? You're not going to see a native Chihuahua thriving in the arctic.

(But it's probably something about what countries actually do testing, etc. )

[-] DeadDigger@lemmy.zip 1 points 1 day ago

Well when you look at Europe you see that the countries that make up the majority of the countries that colonized America have the higher autism rates too

[-] Zkuld@lemmy.world 52 points 2 days ago

This reminds me of how we beat covid by not testing for it anymore

[-] vonxylofon@lemmy.world 49 points 2 days ago

Tell me you don't understand sample selection bias without saying you don't understand sample selection bias.

[-] Nighed@feddit.uk 5 points 2 days ago

I think that's the point

It's time to introduce everyone to the concept of Culture bound syndrome

[-] fossilesque@mander.xyz 8 points 2 days ago

Good link, thx.

[-] Ceedoestrees@lemmy.world 5 points 2 days ago

My favorite part:

Some culture-bound syndromes appear with similar features in several cultures, but with locally specific traits, such as penis panics.

New Zealand very smart, just skip Autism altogether.

[-] marcos@lemmy.world 2 points 2 days ago

Many diseases seem to not exist in New Zealand.

[-] SaveTheTuaHawk@lemmy.ca 2 points 2 hours ago

They banned them. You want to fix a problem? ban it.

[-] Denjin@feddit.uk 19 points 2 days ago

Obviously it's because people in Africa and south America don't have access to paracetamol.

I for one upvoted this post because it is stupid.

[-] QuinnyCoded@sh.itjust.works 8 points 2 days ago

damn sorry for downvotes OP, I thought it was pretty funny

[-] Manjushri@piefed.social 3 points 1 day ago

Poe's Law. Without a clear indicator, a lot of people took it as OP believing this.

[-] QuinnyCoded@sh.itjust.works 2 points 1 day ago

OP added the description after like an hour, people have kept downvoting after it was added

[-] fossilesque@mander.xyz 8 points 2 days ago

Tough crowd. ヘ(^_^)

Let's play Pick the Cognitive Biases. Not just in the picture, but in the comments and the reasons people downvoted this.

If you see this comment, it could be interesting to get an idea of how many people:

a) Thought OP posted this in like a "Look at how dumb this is" way, or,

b) Thought OP agreed with the idea presented in the image.

I think this might have to do with communication climates (I am so far from an expert in anything) and how a climate of disagreement with peers and prevalent media can affect how a message is received. In other words, if surrounded by stupid people with stupid ideas it's easy to assume the next stupid idea has come from a stupid person.

Tylenol is just really popular in the US

[-] very_well_lost@lemmy.world 10 points 2 days ago

The US should just switch to paracetamol. Problem solved!

[-] anothercatgirl 6 points 2 days ago

this is what happens when you discard the confidence data

[-] Zerush@lemmy.ml 2 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago)

Anyway, fact is that the US ranks in the place 33 in the average IQ level, maybe saved by the chinese and corean scientifics working in the MIT, no need of an fake map.
